Great looking book cover art BK!

Ask BK Day:

Did you ever have the opportunity to meet and/or talk with Hugo Montenegro?

I am a big fan of what orchestrators/arrangers do and he was among the best.  To me, it's always fascinating to hear different arrangers, stylists, etc. take the same melody and each make it their own.  For example, I enjoy the numerous "takes" on "September Song" that have been recorded over the years.

I was a fan, but never met him, no.

DR Ginny, how's DS Rob's job search going?

Thanks for asking, DR Jeanne.  We're not at liberty to disclose details yet, but he had a final interview today and received an offer!

I got on a Jules Dassin kick recently, and within the past few weeks have watched Brute Force, Thieves Highway, Night and the City, and, just now, Rififi.  Of those, I'd only ever seen the latter before.  Great stuff.

"Topkapi" is a very enjoyable caper film.  Also, "Never on Sunday".  Both star Dassin's wife, Melina Mercouri, and both have great music by Manos Hadjidakis.  Not to be a commercial placement item, but the "Topkapi" soundtrack was released on Kritzerland.

ASK BK DAY:

Dear Administrator Bruce, would you list what you consider to be the most underappreciated actors, directors and movies (past or present)?

ASK BK DAY:

DA Bruce:  On Kritzerland, you have reissued improved versions of soundtracks that had been part of the Ryko/MGM series.  Are there any titles from that series that you feel should be given the Kimmel touch?

There are a few more I'd like to do, but they are titles that would not sell well.

Too many to list, but at the top would be Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake, two of my favorites.  Many underappreciated directors - Frank Perry, Anthony Mann, Preminger, Martin Ritt, etc.  Way too many movies.

You can count on me!  Maybe a limited edition of 100?  :D

Thank you.  I've often wondered what "Spartacus" would have been like had Anthony Mann completed the movie.

Yes, I agree with Veronica Lake; she was great in "I Married a Witch".  The director, Rene Clair, also directed the best version of "Ten Little Indians" ("And Then There Were None").  To tie in with the Irish flavor theme of the other day, Barry Fitzgerald was excellent in that film.

You didn't mention the best film of them together ;)

Is anyone watching "House of Cards"?  Because I started, and I'm hooked.

You're referring to the Kevin Spacey version? I watched season 1. I was a big fan of the BBC version with Ian Richardson, which I still prefer. The two versions are different enough that I think someone could enjoy both.

You may well think that; I couldn't possibly comment.

FJL - congratulations  on your successful performance - break a leg  vibes  to all involved.  I would love to see the show but other commitments may prevent that -  if something changes and I can get away  I will call to see if  you can squeeze me in
