Good morning, all! I think i'm over my malaise of the past week, but I must admit that I'm moving very cautiously this morning. I slept rather well, but I would sure like another hour's worth of sleep.

This morning I will head down to Carroll Studios for an orchestra rehearsal of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, followed by a sitzprobe with the cast. I don't know if i'll stay for the entire shebang, but i'm looking forward to it.

I've got an exciting morning ahead of me:

Load the summer (all-season) tires into the car and drive over to the local Firestone to have them swap the snow tires for those, and also wait while they do the biennial emissions check which I've been putting off, but is due..... today.

Oy!

Sorry, DR Jennifer, but I am SO GLAD we are now out of it.  We're going to get a few rainy days, but it's 50 F and above here now, as far as the eye can see...   for which I am extremely grateful.  Here's hoping y'all won't be far behind.

Great Filichia on Friday. This is the first in-depth look at what the creators of the stage version of Rocky have done and that is his specialty, whether he likes the work or not. And I'm surprised he likes it as much as he does. I'm interested in hearing the score because it's Flaherty and Ahrens, but I'm not won over by the concept just yet, though he makes a strong case for it.

BACK...

With neither emissions nor tires done!

Found the emissions checking equipment down today at Firestone.  Yes, down on my due date.  But they said I'm all right because (ahem) if you read the whole notice (and he circled the pertinent part on mine) you actually have 30 days from that in which to not be considered late and be charged a late fee.  Also, by the time I got there, they had quite a crowd having things done and I would have had way over an hour wait just to get the tires changed.  So, since the tires are in the car taking up space, I'll either call later and see if it's thinned out, or just get up in time to be there first thing in the morning.  Which will be fine.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my morning thus far.

Very strange thing happened to me yesterday:

One of my co-workers gave me a set of keys to pass on to a company which bought one of our buildings.

I handled the keys briefly and put them in an envelope.

About 30 minutes later, I had a metallic taste in my mouth.

About an hour later, the metallice taste was stronger and I had a tightening in my chest.

An hour later and I was back to normal and remain so (if whatever I'm feeling like is actually normal).

Never have had an experience like that!

Had an interesting morning.

Took a studio tour of our local public radio station, MPR (Minnesota Public Radio), which is second in size only to WNYC. We were in the control booth with the classical morning host while she was on the air, which was fun.

Then headed over to the Veteran's Home, where we serenaded the DH's college organ professor with some hymns. He is now in the memory unit, which is sad. We don't know if he really remembered us, but he "came out of it" when we started in on the music, and was mouthing the words to some of the hymns with tears in his eyes, so that was gratifying that we got through to him.

Meanwhile, at the same time, a college classmate of mine was on the air at Indiana Public Radio, helping host a morning program. I was able to catch her first 10 minutes before I had to leave the house.

From DR Cilla:
Quote
I always looked forward to Christmas. I looked forward to all the family at Easter until the year the family all piled into a couple different cars while I was in the bathroom at the church and I came out and they were gone. It's funny, I remember that almost every year. It wasn't intentional, but I wasn't that old and it was most unpleasant

How long before they realized you were missing?  I've been left a few times in my life.  The first time was at the airport.  The worst part was after the long while it took me to find them no one had noticed I was missing.

In the absolutely infuriating department, two boxes arrived today - one containing twenty softcovers of Red Gold - those are freebies and useless to me.  My five free hardcovers of Red Gold also arrived in a box with ten There's Mel's that I needed.  The other ninety Red Golds did NOT arrive and will not arrive until Monday - because they shipped one day later than the other two boxes.  Of course, I wasn't told that - I was told they all shipped together on Monday.  So, instead of this running smoothly, we're now up against the wall in terms of getting everything shipped before the helper is gone for eight days.  Whether Grant can get here on Monday to get the signed limitation sheets in the books is anyone's guess, but if he can't I'll just do that myself and hope for the best.  Monday is also a Kritzerland rehearsal that starts at three and doesn't end until six-thirty, so if they don't arrive before two then I don't know how I'm supposed to get them and when I'm supposed to sign them - perhaps the helper will go pick them up and bring them here.

Because a handful of spam registrations have gotten through, which is amazing since three questions have to be answered - one spambot has gotten through twice - I Googled that and it's a well-known spambot on our discussion board software's message board - so I added one more question that isn't generic, but anyone who comes to this site will know how to answer it easily.

Afternoon, all!

We have a new DR?! Where?! When?! Welcome!

Sorry to hear about all the headaches in mixing the album, bk. Sounds like quite the clam-bake (do people still call bad notes "clams?")

TOD:
On ye olde iPod: Assorted a capella Sabbath songs
the DVD drive: Bill Cosby
Youtube playlist: shut down for now (durned oppressive work firewalls)
Nightstand: Ken Follett's World Without End, Lincoln Peirce's Big Nate: In a Class by Himself

Oh, and I really do need to update my avatar, don't I?

Very strange thing happened to me yesterday:

One of my co-workers gave me a set of keys to pass on to a company which bought one of our buildings.

I handled the keys briefly and put them in an envelope.

About 30 minutes later, I had a metallic taste in my mouth.

About an hour later, the metallice taste was stronger and I had a tightening in my chest.

An hour later and I was back to normal and remain so (if whatever I'm feeling like is actually normal).

Never have had an experience like that!

That is scary, Ron.  I hope everything is fine now.

And I am home from a looooong day. From 10:00 to 12:30 Rob rehearsed the orchestra on transpositions and cuts, then we broke for lunch and a move to another studio. From 2:00-6:15 we ran through all the music with the cast. I didn't get to talk to Cheyenne, but he sounds fantastic. I did spend  bit of time gossiping with the wonderful Jessica Molaskey, whom I hadn't seen since we recorded the Moross album "Windflowers."

I saw several friends and had a very good time. The orchestra sounds wonderful.

CD from the library in my CD player here at work at the library:  the newest CD by Pink Martini performing with The Von Trapps (I think they're the great-grandkids of the famous Maria), Dream a Little Dream (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HUQC4WE/).  They actually sing ABBA's "Fernando" in Swedish, "The Lonely Goatherd" with guest vocalist Wayne Newton and Charmian Carr, and Charmian sings "Edelweiss" with the Von Trapps!  It's a delightful and delightfully different CD from Pink Martini.  Highly recommended!

Just finished a fun noir called "The Hitch-hiker." Supposedly the only noir directed by a woman, Ida Lupino. Dark, gritty and a great beginning with no dialogue for the first five minutes -- except for the scream of a woman before she's shot.

We were talking about this at the rehearsal today and i was hoping someone would invite me. It was completely unexpected, but i want to see Sierra Boggess in a role (I've only seen her in concert with John Williams' orchestra), I've got several friends in it, and I love the show. Speaking of Sierra, I saw her  sister Summer, a fabulous cellist, at the rehearsal today

Nope this is Ben Forster, - according to  Wikipedia (the source of all  the mostest accurate information EVER!) "Ben Forster (born April 24, 1981) is a British actor and singer. He won ITV's Superstar competition in 2012.[1][2] As a result Forster played the lead role of Jesus in the revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar in its 2012 arena tour."

The picture below is from the bows -- "Jesus" (Ben Foster) is on the left,  "Judas" (Tim Minchin)  apparently channeling Captain Jack Sparrow, is on the right

Works for me.  Perhaps we need to write this ourselves.

BK felt not a thing, thankfully.  Perhaps the sound was so loud watching Sherlock that I just didn't feel it, but no pictures are crooked or anything.  It's hard to know what's true and not true because the stupid news people are trying to make sure that everyone is panicked - they're calling all these "pre-quakes" to a bigger one.  Seismologists interviewed say, "No, that's not usually the way it happens."  It would be nice if it just stopped already - too many in to short a time.  But these idiotic people are saying there were "pre-shocks" before other big ones, and that simply isn't true at all - then again, they'll say anything to keep people watching.  Facebook is a whole other story.

Actually, they didn't notice I was missing.  I started walking home, I was fuming and crying and a neighbor stopped and asked why I was walking.  I'm sure I was quite dramatic about it.  They gave me a ride home and when I went in the house, no one had realized I was gone.

I've been thinking.  The whole office thing has been bugging me.  Not the moving into the other room, I should have done that from the beginning, but the way I seem to be making room for Bob.  He originally just wanted to use the one room.  Now he's talking about when his wife starts as his secretary (not yet) and how he'd be glad to put up a cubicle or whatever for her.   I was trying to figure out what to do to make room for her, but it occurred to me tonight that I don't want to.  This isn't "our" office.  It's my office and he's renting a room.  I'm just not willing to change anything else or add more people to the space.  I worked too long to get here and I am where I want to be.  I'm not going to move or change anything and there'll be cubicles over my dead body.   So, I'm just going to have to tell him he can stay as long as he wants to, but when he's ready to expand his practice, he's going to have to go somewhere else

Truth be told, when I needed someone to stick up for me at our old office, he just went in his office and did his work and stayed out of it.  I like having him share the rent and I enjoy talking to him, but I really don't owe him anything.  And my name is the only one on the lease

Good for you.  I was wondering why you were making changes because of his needs.  It wasn't my place to say anything, but I am glad you came to that conclusion.

So, yes I'm still up...I feel like I finally figured out what's been bugging me and it's a relief.  Now I think I'll get some sleep.,   Night Tom

Well, I seriously want to move into the library.  That I'm excited about.   The rest, well,  it's time I talked to Bob.  I'm sure he'll be surprised I'm changing my tune, but that's too bad
