Well, you've read the notes, you met the notes and greeted the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they also had a MOOt and GROOt.
-
And the word of the day is: AMBIVERT!
-
First once again!
-
Tonightlast night Tuesday night was our only rehearsal this week. It is Spring Vacation for Tacoma schools, so the director decided there were just too many conflicts to try and schedule any other rehearsals.
-
So I have decided to make
tomorrow. today Wednesday as "me" day! I will attend the Old Actors lunch (although I don't like the restaurant) and then come home and watch the Blu Ray of "Raise the Titanic."
-
G'night!
-
Quite enjoyable cast photos, bk. Looking forward to many more throughout the rehearsal process!
-
Paypal dispute filed? Check! :)
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all.
Got my first full night's solid sleep in three days. Still feel tired, but that shall improve through the day. A li'l nap at some point will probably be just the ticket.
For now...
Coffee!
-
I wonder if the president of Paypal is still in bed.
Because you know what we all should do, right? Gather outside HIS window and LET HIM HAVE IT.
-
OMG, I am already in love with that LI'L ABNER cast. They look incredible.
-
So, what's in store for today?
Perhaps a little start on some outdoors cleanup. Pick up some debris from winter storms, that kind of thing. We've got us a few beautiful days here this week, so it'll just feel good to be outdoors doing something. And this is probably my day to document the last of the snow with some photographic evidence. I do that almost every year just for some perverted kind of sentimentality's sake -- take a couple of pictures of the last hangers-on. If I do, I promise to post it because I know you're all anxious to see just what the HELL I'm talking about.
-
And I will most certainly be spending some more time with THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, because tomorrow's the day we have our LI'L HHW GET-TOGETHER at Brooklyn Diner and City Center, and I myself want to be one happy fella as I'm stuffing my pie-hole with wonderful foodstuffs and my ear-holes with thrilling sounds.
-
Speaking of which (pie-holes), how about that House of Pies pancake report from BK, eh? Them is some pretty strong words.
Is it safe to presume (I don't want to say assume, because we all know what "ass"-ume is, right?) we'll be reading the report from a follow-up investigation within, say, 48 hours?
-

If i may suggest that you listen to two cuts from a album BK Produced Anywhere I Wander: Liz Callaway Sing Frank Loesser. She sings two smashing versions of "Joey Joey Joey" and "My Heart Is So Full Of You" both Beautifully orchestrated by Larry Moore and music directed by Alex Rybeck. The latter is my favorite version of the song especially for the instrumental piano break. Beautifully done by everyone involved.
-
Wednesday morning greetings! I finally managed not to wake up before 7am, as I've done every morning we've been away. Maybe it helped to drink wine right before bed...
-
Quite enjoyable cast photos, bk. Looking forward to many more throughout the rehearsal process!
Ditto!
Me, too. I love the show and wish this production a big success.

ask bk
In the early 60's (I Think) Frank Sinatra had something like the Reprise Record Rep Company and they recorded several musicals Finian's Rainbow, Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, South Pacific.
Your opinion on them please.
-
Good morning, all! I lazily slept in and I am off to physical therapy very shortly. I've got so much work to get to in the next few days, and my first free day this week is Friday. I believe I'll be stuck at my desk all weekend. There are worse places to be.

If I had asked for a snot rag I would not think it was funny.
-
Good morning.
I will be taking Chester to the groomer today.
-
We used to have House of Pies restaurants here (a few decades ago now). Please tell them to come back here. Thank you.
-
Ask BK:
Did the House of Pies chain have food other than pies back in the day? I want to say yes, but I'm not sure. My main one was Hollywood Blvd. & Whitley, and as many times as I was in there, I can't recall anything I had except for the pies.
I know the one you're eating at is quite a different scene, menu-wise, from the chain as I knew it, but I remember it fondly and I'm so happy they saved it from annihilation.
-
If I had asked for a snot rag I would not think it was funny.
It wasn't meant to be funny. That is the term that they used. Sure, they knew handkerchief, but they didn't use the term.
-
Good morning, all.
Great cast photos, BK.
-
TOD: Are there still plans to record the Newley-Bricusse revue?
-
Good morning. Today is dedicated to getting an oil change. I hope it doesn't take all day. And that they don't find anything else that needs to be done.
-
Dear BK,
It's a good thing you don't live in Phoenix. In the summer here, people get up EARLY -- before the heat. If you don't get your yard work started before 6 a.m., it is too hot. In fact, I told the next-door-neighbor that if it's ok with her neighbor on the other side, she should have her husband/brother/SO/whoever get started at 5 a.m.
-
Woo hoo! Page 2!
-

Laura, I love your yeasty story.
-
So, last evening, Wae-Ling learned 1) the proper use of "affect" and "effect," 2) how to write a letter, and 3) how a bill becomes a law.
-
It is my goal to be a yeasty old broad someday, DR John.
-
Whatever that is.
-
It is my goal to be a yeasty old broad someday, DR John.
LOL.

My readings in trauma for this thesis have left me traumatized largely because some of these theorists persist in warping the meaning of affect for their own purposes and makes the reading even more aggravating.
One book is called: Empathic Vision: Affect, Trauma and Contemporary Art. Blech. Good book, but blech/belch on that title.
-
Wednesday. I am enjoying the cast photos and stories very much.
With my auditions coming up Sunday & Monday - I am hoping I get a great cast as well.
Fingers crossed. I have finished my Dance Breaks for the choreography section of the audition....I have chosen my audition scenes....now it just needs to happen....
Oh...well I am still refining the dance break for "Luck Be A Lady" - but it is nearly finished.
-
We will be having our first meeting one week from today.
-
BK, what is the date of LI'L ABNER? I have forgotten.
Plane tickets are so very inexpensive right now...maybe....hmmm...
-
My question for ASK BK DAY:
If I remember correctly, you did GUYS & DOLLS when you were a twig of a lad....what part did you play.....what is your favorite part of the show?
-
~ ~ ~ CASTING VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR Jrand63!

Look out, DR Laura. I may beat you to it! :)

Oh, come on. NOBODY knows how that happens. :)
-
Thank you DR SINGDAW....I shall soon know. The problem is of the people who I am sure will be at auditions.....about half of them should stay home....
-
And speaking of auditions, here is what happened when the Hudson Valley (NY) Shakespeare Company held dog auditions... :)

how a bill becomes a law
I hope she especially noted the part about whomever spends the most money on lobbyists, campaign contributions, and PACs gets whatever the heck they want. :P
-
DR Jrand63, did I understand you to say that you were hoping someone's wife shows up because she plays the piano? What did that mean -- that you were looking for audition pianists, or what? Just curious.

I'm pretty sure the one at Vermont and Franklin has always served food.
-
TOD: Are there still plans to record the Newley-Bricusse revue?
Not right now.
-
BK, what is the date of LI'L ABNER? I have forgotten.
Plane tickets are so very inexpensive right now...maybe....hmmm...
We open on May 21 and play six shows between then and May 24.
-
My question for ASK BK DAY:
If I remember correctly, you did GUYS & DOLLS when you were a twig of a lad....what part did you play.....what is your favorite part of the show?
I saw the show when I was a teen, but have never been in it.
-
And I'm up. Barely. And exactly as predicted, this morning the neighbors stayed inside.
-
I had only about five hours of sleep - much going on in the cranium.
-
It is my goal to be a yeasty old broad someday
Look out, DR Laura. I may beat you to it! :)
Oh, I think that ship has sailed.

Yes, that was a singdaw SNARK!

Hmmmmm, then.....LIL ABNER is one of my most favorite musicals....saw it on stage during one of my previous LA visits (with Ms. Laurie "Queen of Outer Space" Mitchell as my date!)...never tire of it...might have to give some serious thought to coming down for your production, BK.
I still remember the fun and fond memories of coming down to see your first production of BRAIN FROM PLANET X!

Three!

I must have been channeling yesterday's TOD this morning when I wrote on Facebook:
"When we visit Craig we are taking a tour of the West Wing and I have a major problem, NO JEANS. It says to dress business casual. I don't even know what that is. I'm looking at images. I don't own anything like that. I have some old clothes that could work, except the waist is too tight on all of them and my butt doesn't look good in them anymore, plus they are uncomfortable. Don't say go shopping because I have been looking for years for a nice pair of black pants and haven't found any to fit me.
End of rant."
I thought I was writing that on a private group I belong to of 15 women. I did not mean to announce it to the world. :-[ ;D
-
DR CHAS SMITH - if said person auditions for my show, then when my regular pianist is scheduled to leave after April 24, I can ask his wife to join the pit and play for us. If he was not going to audition for one reason or another, he probably wouldn't want her involved with the show either.
According to a message I received on BOOKFACE, he is indeed intending to audition, so that may solve my problem.
-
I just deleted it on FB but it was too funny not to share here.
-
Because I saw the movie over the weekend, and because Page 3 needs a dance:
(http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh119/RonPulliam/PowellEleanorBorntoDance_01.jpg) (http://s254.photobucket.com/user/RonPulliam/media/PowellEleanorBorntoDance_01.jpg.html)

And I will post here what I posted there:
"Jane, do you mean to tell us you don't have a pretty dress?"
:D
-
Ya DR Jane, buy some dresses!
-
And as quickly as I dreamt of visiting LA, reality interferred. I just don't have enough vacation days nor money to take that trip just now. Maybe next year.
I might do a weeks staycation soon, however. That is cheap.
-

:D
Not really. I have skirts and nice tops but I would be cold wearing them. Someone told me she wore khaki pants and a nice top on her tour. She thinks they just don't want people wearing jeans and t-shirts. I might have something old and out of style I can get by with. This country living has been hard on my wardrobe, easy on the pocketbook.
-
Ya DR Jane, buy some dresses!
But I wear a dress about once a year and I look better in skirts or pants.
-
When we moved here 16 years ago I had loads of nice clothes I had worn for business functions with Keith. Those have slowly been removed from my closet as they went out of style and only, mostly out of style very dressy clothes remain.
-
Laura, I love your yeasty story.
So do I.
-
Fingers crossed for DR JRand!!!

Thank you DR JANE.
I have put my two dance songs on a flash drive so I can use my tablet to play the music for auditions.

I saw this on FB and just had to share it:
Nice, and true.
-
As always, love the pictures, BK!
-
I liked the Dog Audition video.
Well MR BK you can come to Indiana and audition for me and be in GUYS & DOLLS.

Perhaps we can put together a haineshisway.com West Coast get-together for the show, as we did for The Brain. Who'd be up for that. We could do pancakes at the House of Pies, dinner at Genghis Cohen after a performance - the world is our erster.
-
Jane looks good in anything she wears.
-
Had a good meeting this morning, then had a Cobb Salad (the works, this time, rather than meatless) and a bagel, the helper came and got some invoices to ship before leaving for a week, and I picked up a couple of packages.

Khakis are the wonder pants...they go with any shirt!

One of the Louisville stations has done a story on my mom. For some reason, they ran a written story rather than including the video. Maybe they'll include the video after it airs tonight. Anyway, here's the story with a number of photos:

yes, if Jane did the topless look in the West Wing, they probably wouldn't care if she were wearing jeans or not.

Nobody got their book?
-
Just to share...Last night, I came across the very first compilation CD that I made for myself. I haven't listened to it in quite a while, so I brought it to work and am listening to it now. I think I made it in 1997 or 1998, so it was long before HHW! Out of 21 tracks, I'd forgotten how many BK recorded tracks are on it! Here are the ones that I have:
If We Never Meet Again - Emily Skinner & Alice Ripley
Disneyland - Michelle Nicastro
The Co-Dependency Duet - Randy Graff
Someday/God Help the Outcasts - Debbie Shapiro Gravitte
Theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey - Debbie Shapiro Gravitte
Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner's "hidden" bonus track about Side Show going to London. ;)
-
I also have a duet version of "That's All," with Laurie Beechman and Sam Harris.
-
What an amazing profile on your mom, DR John G.!!!
She is wonderful, and is doing a great thing.
I am an organ donor, and would be a blood and tissue donor if the Red Cross would let me.

Very nice tribute to the DM of DR John G.

LOL thanks, I only wish.

For men. I couldn't get it to work so I'm loosing a couple of pounds and taking my nice black pants. Almost everything works with them, I just can't eat.

And I am home! I've had a great day.
Do you all remember our long-gone DR Joey from the indianapolis area? He is in town for a couple of days, and he joined me, DR Ginny, and Richard for lunch at Artie's. Following that, DR Ginny and Richard moseyed off to run some errands, and Joey and I caught up since we not seen each other since 2005. We had a lovely visit and he has headed off to a performance of VIOLET. DR Ginny and Richard are seeing JERSEY BOYS, and I am staying in.

Good. He's become a very smart young man. He was a bright college kid and i think he's maturing very well. He thinking about grad school and I think it's a great idea.
-
DR Jane I would definitely wear a skirt. Unless it is a summer skirt why would you be cold? You can just change back into your jeans after.
-
Thanks for the update on Joey DR elmore. I'm pleased to hear he is doing well.
-

Most of my skirts are summer skirts. I tried on an old suit today that is supper cute and still fits me, and still looks good. I would wear it except the skirt it is a bit on the short side.
-
Lovely story, video, and photos of the MOM of DR JOHN G. Thanks for sharing.

DR JOEY was in the HHW contingent when DR JOSE was in Indianapolis with MAMMA MIA! It was attended by DR GINNY and DH RICHARD, DR JOEY, and yours truly.

I have had devastating news. One of dearest Ohio friends, Alan Freeman, has died. Dr Ginny reported it to me this afternoon, and i just tracked down his obituary. I called his family to leave a message and broke down and sobbed on the phone. His last email to me was in October, when i was too caught up in my own msery and unhappiness to do much. He wrote:
Last December I had a cat scan in the ER at Atrium Hospital that revealed a malignant tumor on the right side of my brain (irony). After surgery to try and remove it, radiation and chemo therapy in the Winter I seem to be surviving Glio Blastoma multiforme Grade 4 an agressive form of brain cancer. Recent MRI's Have shown improvement and no new tumors forming.I tried to call you at Christmas with the news and just left a brief message...
God, how I loved him! Sleep well, my dear friend.

Awww Larry, I'm sorry. :(
-
Larry, my condolences.
-
This afternoon when I walked down to the mailbox I saw a woman walk a beautiful horse and I got to pet him. He had furry legs and pranced more than walked. I should have thought to ask what kind of horse he is. Hopefully I will see them again.
-
I'm sorry, Elmore.
-
Eek. I am going to Flagstaff tomorrow to give a talk with The Monarch Scientist, and it is SNOWING there now.
I don't do snow.
-
Do you know how to drive in it?
-
No.
It should be melted by the time we get there.
-
Do you know how to drive in it?
Very, very carefully.
-
I haven't even seen my jacket since January.
-
BK, what is the date of LI'L ABNER? I have forgotten.
Plane tickets are so very inexpensive right now...maybe....hmmm...
The best fares are probably available through Malaysia Airlines.
-
I haven't even seen my jacket since January.
It is the cold you mostly don't like ;) Remember to layer.
-
I just got a lovely email from Alan's oldest daughter:
Things were going well for a while, but then progressed very quickly. The last month or two, in fact. He was himself until the end, though, giving people "knuckle sandwiches" when they needed one.
I just wish I'd known so I could have flown to Ohio to say goodbye.

You will undoubedly hear from the Secret Service.

Forgot that in fifteen minutes I have to go mix what will hopefully be the last of And the World Goes Round and then we can finally book our pick-up date.

BK, what is the date of LI'L ABNER? I have forgotten.
Plane tickets are so very inexpensive right now...maybe....hmmm...
The best fares are probably available through Malaysia Airlines.
That may be, but I'd put my money on a good domestic airline like ValuJet.

DR JOEY was in the HHW contingent when DR JOSE was in Indianapolis with MAMMA MIA! It was attended by DR GINNY and DH RICHARD, DR JOEY, and yours truly.
do you still have the photographic evidence?
I thought i did but i can't find it.

Dear Larry, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. How sad. He was young!

Dear Larry, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. How sad. He was young!
Only 60. I was sure he'd outlive me. And I found the photo in question.

Nobody got their book?
Nope.
-
Hugs, Larry. So sorry for your loss.
-
John, what a beautiful story. Thanks for putting that up.

One of the Louisville stations has done a story on my mom. For some reason, they ran a written story rather than including the video. Maybe they'll include the video after it airs tonight. Anyway, here's the story with a number of photos:

your Mom sounds like a wonderful lady!
Thank you. They finally uploaded the video of the story, so it was good to see it. She said the lights were really bright, which is why her eyes look closed half the time.

Six!

nice!! Thank you for posting this!

Thanks for all the kind words on the story about Mom. The reporter made one little error that would matter to no one but her old children, ages 58, 55 and 51: My folks have been married for almost 59 years, not 51, as the reporter said. (As if legitimacy still mattered these days.) ::)

DR Jane I would definitely wear a skirt. Unless it is a summer skirt why would you be cold? You can just change back into your jeans after.
Most of my skirts are summer skirts. I tried on an old suit today that is supper cute and still fits me, and still looks good. I would wear it except the skirt it is a bit on the short side.
Do you have black tights that you could wear with it? Or dark nylons.

Lar, my deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear friend. May he rest in peace.

I don't know what possessed me to look at today's hometown obituaries, but that's when I learned of Alan's death. Even thought I dreaded telling DR Elmore, I'm glad he didn't receive the news alone and via email. I knew Alan as a student on the campus where my library career began, but had lost touch with him except through Larry.
-
Horrible story out of Fort Hood.
-
We did have a nice lunch with DR Elmore and Joey. Afterwards, we visited a couple of yarn shops in DR Elmore's 'hood, then came back for a rest before JERSEY BOYS. We saw that show (again) because we know the swing who's playing Bob Crewe this week.
-
Sorry about your friend DR Elmore. :(
-
I just have one question....
Where was his other hand? ;) :D ;D

while it was dreadful news I am sure it was the kindest way he could have heard it

I handled it pretty well until I called his home, heard his message, and then lost it. I blubbered something to his family, and then started sobbing. At that point I figured it was better to hang up.

LOL! This is the second photo Richard took. In the first, my eyes were closed, so I made this face and he snapped. He thought asking Jared for a third shot was tacky.
-
DR Elmore, give it a day or two and call again. I'm glad you've heard from his daughter.
-
Jared is Bob Crewe!
-
Jared is Bob Crewe!
And several other characters!
-
Jared is Bob Crewe!
Which is better than Val Kilmer.

We need to reach Page Seven.
Because we can.

Well, maybe.

Nope...I'm still at work. ::)
Seriously? Are you a vampire?
I just stay up late, get up late, get to work late, stay at work late, etc....unless I have to leave early for rehearsal or ushering.
I am very grateful for the flexible work schedule. :D
-
DR Jane - I just meant that I am listed on my driver's license as an organ donor, should anything happen to me.
-
G'night, George!

G'night, George!
Good night, Tom! And I actually am leaving work now.

Got another page and a half written tonight. And I'm wiped out.

Well, phase one of the And the World Goes Round mix is done. I think we can get all our fixes in one three-hour session. We have to do small parts of about three songs, just little sections, and then all of one song, where they were just hopeless and horrid. We somehow managed to actually save most of what I thought would be the worst of it, the Entr'acte, so we only need to really fix two things in that, and I think we saved at least a third of the long Shoes Dance, so we'll have to do the rest of that one, but it's not nearly as much as I thought it would be.
-
For a snack, I got some super Chinese slaw and four tiny teriyaki drumettes.
