Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nothing and short of heaven, and now it is time for you to post until the heavenly short cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VERNISSAGE!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
TOD:
I remember watching the television broadcast of Leontyne Price's final performance as "Aida" at the Metropolitan Opera. The ovation after her last act aria, "O Patria Mia," seemed to go on forever. I'm sure it was just a few minutes, but it seemed like forever.
-
Glad to hear that you had a great evening, bk, and that the various performances went so well.
-
Good morning, all.
Happy Monday vibes.
-
TOD:
Patti LuPone after the title number in Anything Goes. It was an Easter Sunday performance, and people wouldn't let her or the cast leave the stage after that number. The applause went on fro about five minutes. And the response to everything in the second act seemed to stay on that level through "Blow, Gabriel, Blow," "All Through the Night," "Be Like a Bluebird." It was just a perfect day of cast and audience being on the same vibe.
-
Congratulations, BK and cast, on a successful run and closing on such a high.
-
Congratulations on everything going so splendidly yesterday. We all need those days of heaven to remind us why we're here and why we do what we do.
-
Good morning, all.
Coffee!
-
TOD: Vladimir Horowitz

Mucho congrats to BK & Companies! What an incredible day. The notes describing it were fascinating. I so wish (a familiar refrain here) I could have been there.
-
Good morning, all! No proofreading today. Everyone's catching up on fixes and changes frm the weekend's rehearsals.
-
BK, what a great day for you! I wish we all had such days on a more regular basis.
I'm planning my day. I may begin packing these cartons for Miami University and inventorying their contents.

I remember it well! I was glued to the set that night. And did the camera not hold on her, as she eventually began tearing up? But boy, she held it -- and that show went on.
-
Wonderful news from BK!
-
Longest ovation? Either the end of Bette Midler's 1973 show, the end of Cleo Laine's concert in 1976 or the riot in town Hall in 1985 at the end of the glorious "Some Girl Is On Your Mind" in the New Amsterdam Theatre Company's concert of Kern's Sweet Adeline.
I am going to begin my day with the laundry. It's time.
-
OMG why is it so cold today? This is ridiculous. It is -25C/-13F (with windchill). On Thursday it will be 7C/44F. Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
My Martini Went Haywire.....
I love finding new titles on HHW that I can use someday.
-
Enjoyed reading about the shows and the reactions yesterday. Most excellent!!!
-
Whew......I had to turn down a film part today because I am very self conscious about some of my teeth.....doesn't matter much onstage.....but I am afraid to show them on film......it could be scary.
-
Monday afternoon greetings! Richard and I are back from dropping Rob and Mary Linda at the Cincinnati airport and having a nice breakfast at First Watch in Crestview Hills, KY. The kids are on their way to New Orleans for the week and we are cat-sitting.
-
Bruce, congratulations on your fantastic evening!
-
I just watched tonight's episode of RuPaul's Drag Race online.....and Ginger is safe....DR LAURA will be glad to know.
However....it is a shocking elimination that I didn't see coming and am sad to see....one of my favorite contestants.
-
Still on page 1? Jesus!
-
I finished the book on Brecht and Weill. i liked a great deal of it. I kept thinking, this country is becoming more fascist like Germany in the early 1930s than I like.
-
The laundry is finished and I spke to Joshie on the phone.
-
I wish now I'd gone to the closing party at City Center last night.
-
I thought i'd be hearing from the Frederick Loewe Foundation today, but i suspect everyone's at the recording sessions for GIGI. Oy!

This should take us to Page 2?

TOD 2:
Went to the Newport Jazz Festival at Saratoga Springs to see Miles Davis, who had been put on the bill at 5 or so in the afternoon. Each act was supposed to play for an hour and then disappear. But the crowd would not let Davis leave. He was the act they had come to hear and he stayed on for 7 encores. It was astounding. I was down in the pit getting pictures and got to see his face. The music hit something wonderful with the entire audience.
Davis was followed by Mel Torme and the amphitheater emptied. But his singing went out over the sound system and pretty soon, the theater was packed once again. And by the time he finished, the full house wouldn't let him leave the stage. He also did 7 encores. Before the last, he said, "Who do you think I am, Miles Davis?" He was obviously touched. Since he hadn't rehearsed a lot with the band, they finished off by singing the stuff they started with, including a medley of songs from "Guys and Dolls."
That put the schedule off by three hours. Tito Puente, the headliner, didn't make it onstage until 2 a.m. By then, there were no encores, no exceptions, but it was OK, nobody who followed deserved to be called back.
-
A BUNCH OF MORONS:
Apparently, the Texas DMV is operated by a bunch of morons.
A few weeks ago, my wife and I got our auto license renewal notifications. We had our cars inspected and, about the first of this month, we sent in a check for the amount the notification said was due.
Today, the check and all of our renewal paperwork was returned with a handwritten notification that we had underpaid the bill by about $20.00.
WRONG! We paid the exact amount that was requested in the notification.
I spoke to people at both the DMV and the Travis County Tax Assessor's Office. They admitted to me that it was their error and that MANY people were sent a bill with the wrong amount due. Their response: "Well, you should have called us and asked the correct amount."
My response: "If I have to call you, what's the point of mailing out a bill?'
This is your tax dollars at work, folks.

Wow! My dad LOVES Miles Davis. He would kill to have been able to see him perform live.

I think I slept maybe two hours, thanks to an allergy attack. I finally got up at nine-thirty after a telephonic call with Sandy. Then I heard from Piano Man who will be here at three to put it back the way it was only better.
-
Then I went directly to Grant's and we got all the fixes entered in about twenty-five minutes. He worked a bit on the cover and I'm hoping to have that later today. I'll now give the FINAL book layout one more quick look-see and that will be done.

I wish I had been there. Of course I would not have walked out when Mel Torme came on. I am very pleased the audience returned.

I had a credit card company cancel my card for an unpaid bill. I had called way in advance of moving and given them my new address. They said it was my fault for not calling them when I didn't receive my bill.
For years and years they attempted to get me back and not only did I refuse but Keith also canceled his card.

...and it's snowing in Middletown, OH :P
-
There was a time when if someone said he had gone to Grant's, I'd have known the he had gone to a local five-and-ten store!
-
Of course, now I know it means Geissman's!
-
I found Blue Bunny ice cream in my local grocery store on Friday.
I had heard of Blue Bunny, but I had never seen Blue Bunny.
I never hoped to see one.
But I can tell you...I'd rather see than be one.
Oh, I crack myself up.
-
TOD: I don't have a lot of recollections about extra-long curtain calls, but I think the longest was the one given to Miss Barbara Cook after her stunning 90-minute, intermission-less, "Simply Sondheim" at the Curran Theater a decade back. She was 75 and it was a stunning concert.
-
I eat the Blue Bunny mini ice cream cones with sprinkles because they have no chocolate and Precious can have a bite.
-
I think I slept maybe two hours, thanks to an allergy attack. I finally got up at nine-thirty after a telephonic call with Sandy. Then I heard from Piano Man who will be here at three to put it back the way it was only better.
Good news about the piano, BK...better is better!
;)

...and now we have hail...

Getting ready for an AAUW
bored board meeting this evening. I'll be so glad to pass this responsibility along to someone else...

For those of you who love carpets (and you know who you are), This Airport’s Beloved Carpet Has Inspired Foot Selfies, Tattoos, and an IPA (http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_eye/2015/02/25/roman_mars_99_insvisible_the_cult_carpet_at_pdx_is_being_replaced.html).
However, the article reports that they're replacing the carpet with an updated design that'll be similar, but not the same.

Piano man is thirty minutes late, but will hopefully get everything he needs to do done before I have to leave for dinner at six-thirty.

-
Will be eating dinner shortly, then on my way to hear a choir concert.
-
It's after 4 p.m. here. Nothing much happening today in the office.
Had a nice Turkey Mediterranean sandwich for lunch (turkey, lettuce, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, black sliced olives on a kaiser roll).
-
Longest ovation? Either the end of Bette Midler's 1973 show, the end of Cleo Laine's concert in 1976 or the riot in town Hall in 1985 at the end of the glorious "Some Girl Is On Your Mind" in the New Amsterdam Theatre Company's concert of Kern's Sweet Adeline.
I am going to begin my day with the laundry. It's time.
DR elmore--do you remember who sang "Some Girl is on Your Mind?" Was it the same cast as on the Showstoppers CD?
-
I had hoped my Twilight Times Blu rays might have arrived today.
A quick check at the site from which I ordered them revealed there were not shipped until TODAY!
Oh, well...
-
TOD: I think one of Barbra's performances at Madison Square Garden--the applause and cheering sounded like thunder.

No. It was Judy Kaye, Richard Muenz, Scott Reeve, David Hickox, and the men's chorus

Piano man is working away. It already sounds 1000% better, like a real Yamaha C3 grand.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
Glad to hear the good reports on INSIDE OUT. I had hoped to see it, but it was just not to be.
-
I like Blue Bunny ice cream. I had it in Florida but have never seen it here.

Methinks Singdaw should put more music in his life. ;)
-
Enjoyed the article on the airport carpet. Didn't know about that. I like it.
Too bad about the replacement design. At first glance, I thought "what is it, fish?"
-
I am back from the Apple Store, where I have supposedly learned a thing or three about iCloud.
-
I have no news. I did the laundry, paid bills, went out for tacos, and did a few other things. I revel in no drama.
-
Jane, re cholesterol, I am pleased with my progress, but I don't know how much I would have made with the Red Yeast Rice alone. I think I had to make the dietary change as well.
-
Congrats to DR Jane and DS Keith on their super-fast home sale!
When will the move be?
-
Jeanne I'm sure you needed the combination. Did I understand you correctly that diet alone didn't work until you added the Red Yeast Rice?
-
Whew......I had to turn down a film part today because I am very self conscious about some of my teeth.....doesn't matter much onstage.....but I am afraid to show them on film......it could be scary.
What was the part?

Congratulations on the quick sale of your house, DR Jane!

Grey Gardens is on TCM.

Jeanne I'm sure you needed the combination. Did I understand you correctly that diet alone didn't work until you added the Red Yeast Rice?
No, I cut out the beloved chocolate mousse and started the Red Yeast Rice about the same time. I also want to try lyprinol again (the oil of the New Zealand green-lipped mussels). I dramatically cut my LDL several years ago just using lyprinol, but it's an expensive product and I loathed the super-aggressive MLM company that sold it. I recently found a cheaper version--not MLM--that I plan to try. I wanted to test after using just Red Yeast Rice and the dietary change to see how far that took me. Now I'll try lyprinol again.
-
Hi, Kevin. Glad you were able to see Angela Lansbury. That must have been a treat.
-
TTFN.
-
Just arrived from Amazon.com: the 2-CD New Broadway Cast Recording of On the Town (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P6QXXL6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and the newly released Blu-ray/3-D Blu-ray of Kiss Me, Kate (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P9EDGHQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)!
I, of course, have neither a 3-D capable TV nor 3-D Blu-ray player, so I'll just have to make due with watching it in 2-D. If I ever do get a 3-D TV and player, I'll be ready.
-
I am ready to murder every effin employee at Time Warner Cable.
-
And now, I'm off to the theater. HELL WEEK BEGINS!! We open Friday...pray for Rosemary's baby! ;)
Until later!
-
So tired.
-
Piano sounds great - have to get used to the slightly duller sound now, but I couldn't play the other hammers without extreme ear fatigue after five minutes. So, if it continues to sound dull (mostly in the lower register) he can adjust the action a tiny bit. No more noises and sticking or anything - just like a real grand now.
-
I accidentally unplugged the power cable with the TV, cable box and DVD player. Now my TV will not play. It's plugged into the cable box, which is on and rebooted, but the TV is dead. When I disconnect it and plug it into an outlet, the TV plays but there's no reception. Every time I've called TWC for help, I get customer service people for whom English is a third or fifth language and I cannot understand a damned thing they are saying.
On the fourth phone call, I got a lovely lady whose primary language is English, and I have a cable technician coming on Wednesday morning to check out the mess.
-
So, I do have DVD and VCR, just no cable.
Damn.
-
Congratulations on the quick sale of your house, DR Jane!
Thank you DR Kevin. I'm tempted to move near Craig, which would be out your way. We will stay someplace on the West Coast.
-

Good luck. What is in the mousse that is so bad for you? I think of it as low fat even if it has lots of sugar.

All too typical for Texas.

I am sorry but I forgot to answer a question from the other day: I have not used an air fryer.

The mousse I make has egg yolks in it. Could that be it?

Wow. And it was 80 here today. It's still in the 70s tonight.
-
Four!
-
First day of dancing in close to a week. It felt good.
-
But I have a lot of work before June. A lot of work.

Has anyone ever played ping pong in the round?

-
That looks exhausting, Singdaw.
-
Watching The Desert Rats. Great Alfred Newman score. Love the variations on Greensleeves in the background.
-
Hit a Half-Price Books in Austin with a friend on Saturday. She found a Korean DVD of Fellini's White Sheik for $2. What a find!
I got the Kristin Chenoweth version of Candide for a few bucks and a two-CD set of British radio shows called "15 Minute Musical." But I would have liked that White Sheik.
-
The choir of King's College, Cambridge was magnificent.
-
And the venue was so close that I could walk to the concert.

Love that store. Only been in one a couple of times, in the NW Dallas suburbs. But I always found something to take home.

Well, well, well... Julie Andrews will be writing her bio, part 2 - taking up at the beginning of her film career.

Really enjoyed the first volume, so that makes me want the second.
-
I wish I weren't so tired.
-
I have too much work to do and not enough energy to do it.
-
DR ChasSmith - here is that Leontyne Price moment...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGfP38nd-U0
-
Thank you. I watched that many times back in the day ... on my Beta Hi-Fi tape that I'm afraid long ago disappeared.
That completely uninterrupted camera shot is a lesson in so many things -- from Price's artistry, to the relatively simple broadcasting methods then, to audience expectations, both in the opera house and at home. Today, that would be turned into a multi-camera special effects extravaganza that couldn't even touch that moment.
-
And now, I'm off to the theater. HELL WEEK BEGINS!! We open Friday...pray for Rosemary's baby! ;)
Until later!
We're into the second act and I have a while before I go on again.
-
Sadly, I goobered my last scene in act one. AARRGGHH!! Oh, well. It'll get better. It has to...WE OPEN FRIDAY!! :o
-
Now, back to reality.
;)
-
I like Blue Bunny ice cream. I had it in Florida but have never seen it here.
It's made in LeMars, Iowa, the Ice Cream Capitol of the World!!!!

Lol, as I read the posts I thought that was the part JRand turned down

A lovelier than lovely review from Rob Stevens for Sandy's show last night: http://www.haineshisway.com/2015/03/sandy-bainum-it-might-be-fun-reviewed-by-rob-stevens/
-
Um, maybe I'm misreading this, but it appears we are still on page four. Surely that must be a mistake and don't call me surely.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
So nice to have my piano back and playable and sounding wonderful.
-
Kiddies, page four doesn't cut the mustard, doesn't cut the mayo, and doesn't get the ketchup. Help out here, for heaven's sake before I get out the bitch slap machine.
-
I seem to have been enjoying a second wind ... at 2:25 in the morning. Good thing there's nothing on my calendar for tomorrow.
-
But I'm fading fast now. Sleep approacheth...
-
Get a third wind, will ya?
-
I'm so overtired I hope I don't get sick. I'm popping Sambucol and Coldeez and Airborne and I may take some NyQuil to help sleep through the night and as a preventative.

The second act of "Laughing Stock" went better (especially for me) than the first act.
-
Guess we can't count on ol' George anymore to keep the home fries burning. So, another record low posting day here at haineshisway.com. Low for us, that is. Hardly low compared to others, however.
-
Even though we're still in rehearsals and struggling, it's a very funny show.

Hey...I'm here...finally.
-
I can't wait until the show's up and running.
-
Hopefully when we actually get an audience, THEY will actually find the show funny.
-
Tonight, I actually wore the costumes that I had.
