TOD:  Strange to say since the product turned out really well, a terrific performance by BD and company and representation of the show, but some real mistakes were made with the CD of one of Skip's shows (Herringbone), and so many of the funders (the ones who couldn't get to the classy launch party) were understandably left upset.

No one really understands why they didn't at least offer an advance free download to the donors, for example.  That sounds like it would have gone a long way to smooth over the delay situation.

Good morning, all! I have to be at my doctor's office by 9:25 for my tests prior to my physical exam in a couple of weeks.  I can only have water, so the need for coffee and an egg or two is driving me mad.

Something has died in this apartment and the smell is working my last nerve.  I think it might be a mouse, but I can't verify that since i can't locate the source of the stink.

The other night, there was a huge crash, very similar to the night the bathroom ceiling fell in, but I have found nothing out of place or out of order in the apartment.  Perhaps it was the ghost trying to get my attention?

I have done them all: Go Fund Me, Indigogo and Kickstarter.

Most have been music, but some of them have been indie film projects or tv series on youtube

As mentioned above with Herringbone I was supposed to get a digital download and autographed program. I ended up with an autographed CD

TOD:  Just a couple of little things before this.

I gave a small amount to an acquaintance's Kickstarter campaign to get a CD funded.  It wasn't even something I was interested in, but I wanted to help the person at the time.  I gave the $20 or whatever it was, got the CD, and quietly passed it on to someone.

Another thing was $15 or $20, out of which I was supposed to get a book...and never did -- and I'm pretty sure a friend said the same thing happened to them.  It's been a while, but in thinking about it now I'm just pissed enough to go back to them and ask WTF, just on principle.

I have donated to a few campaigns.....mostly HHW related:

Kritzerland
TFNM Blu Ray
BRAIN/X, I think it was the Fringe Fund
DR GEORGE's theatre group Rocky Horror campaign

And a couple of school things....I have never NOT gotten what I was promised, and it's always nice to help out even in my small way.

I must say that I think our set looks amazing - could have been better in ONE area - but it is nice.

And the cast was great last night.....a few line misses....and some S L O W acting....but we are where we need to be....7 rehearsals left.

Costumes looked really great....only one I need to replace....just not right for the character.....but that should be easy to do.

Pictures to come later this week.

TOD:

I've backed a few campaigns to raise money for albums and DVDs in addition to several on Kritzerland. The results have been mixed. Fred addressed the issues with Herringbone, but there have been others delayed for whatever reason. Most have been good experiences, however, which will lead me to do more, if I know about them and are interested in the topic.

A chef friend of mine in town funded his restaurant with Kickstarter, but I didn't know about that at the time.

I keep thinking there's something else I've contributed to in this way, but maybe not.

The other Kritzerland ones were before my time, as was the Herringbone (or else that one flew right by me).  I buy a lot of films -- nothing like BK, but more than a lot of people -- so I'm aware of campaigns from those producers.  It's tough having to say no, but there's only so much each person can do at a given time.  I need a good Lotto win so I can spread it around.

Hope your health continues to improve, DR Cillaliz!

Thanks Sing, I had the ultrasound this morning and was able to get a look at my gallstones.  Yup they are there and I saw them.  So I have a follow-up with my doctor on Thursday and we'll take it from there.  It now appears all the problems I had in June were most likely caused by the gallstones.  I'm ready to get this taken care of.

Happy end of June to one and all.  The latest edition of The Broadway Radio Show is now up on the radio page.  It's a fun and interesting interview with the co-founder of Broadway Records, Van Dean.  Broadway Records has become a major player in the world of theatre related recordings with their series of Live CDs recorded at New York's 54 Below as well as many great cast recordings.  Their newest releases include the Side Show revival, Kander & Ebb's The Visit starring Chita Rivera (which was just released digitally today), and the upcoming Dr. Zhivago!  Check out the interview.

The next time I consider ordering from that screwed up company Office Depot, shoot me. Their customer service dept. is verging on total incompetence: I order a table scheduled for delivery on June 22, and because they missed getting it to UPS on time, it arrives a day late with very serious damage.

I immediately email Customer Service and get no response, so I go to their chat line and get a return number and a pickup date for June 29. Two days later, Customer Service answers my email from June 23, which cancels the return date and gives me a new return number and pickup date for tomorrow, July 1. I respond to the email and it takes another two days to get a response. I then telephoned them. Yep. pickup on July 1.

Today, I was given a new pickup date of July 6! So, office Depot, what the fat hell is going on?

I heard my lab test results yesterday. Everything was all clear or better than it had been except for those pesky triglycerides. Seems like it's less dairy, along with less meat. But I like butter, cheese, ice cream, heavy cream and whole milk. I guess I'll cut down on fat-free sour cream, fat-free cream cheese, yogurt and ice milk.

I thought it was great that Jason Graae is mentioned before the two leads.  I've really got to see this!

Sorry about your Office Depot woes, DR elmore!

Thanks!  I've left the table in its carton  outside my door.  I will be here all day tomorrow and we'll see if it goes or not.  Office Effin Depot is working my last nerve.

Oh, Larry, that nerve is so flattened out by now I'm surprised you even know you have a nerve left!

I'm in this nice cool zone in the Bay area where the temp is only 76 degrrees.  15 miles inland, it's 106 degrees.

Tuesday afternoon greetings from San Pablo Bay! We are on a ferry zooming back to San Francisco after a lovely day in Napa. My grad school friend Ann met us at the Vallejo dock at 9:15 and took us to Napa's Oxbow Public Market.  Then we drove up the Silverado Trail to Rutherford Grill for lunch and Mumm Napa for a tour and tasting of 4 sparkling wines.  Ann, our designated driver, got us back to Vallejo just in time to catch the 4pm ferry.

About this time tomorrow we'll be landing in Cincinnati.

It was hot, hot, hot in the Napa Valley today. I'm looking forward to being back in SF!

There's a local community radio station KBRD 680 AM (http://www.kbrd.org) that plays anything (and I mean anything) recorded before the 1970s.  They've had music from the 19-teens!  Anyway,  Just about every day for the last several days, they've played a few Christmas songs...in June!  What's that all about?

The hawk stayed around for about 45 minutes before taking off. Needless to say, not a lot of work got done during that time.

Hawks are cool. We have lots of them around here, mostly red tails.

DR elmore3003 has a vulture hanging out on his fire escape.

We have lots of vultures here too, they hang out on a cell tower across the street from Sonic

Isn't that Kelli O'Hara amazing? She wins a Tony for "The King and I" and now she's leading the women's soccer team to the finals.

That's amazing!  It would be so cool to have one of those, but I don't take pictures often enough to justify even getting a newer camera than my 7-megapixel with 5x optical zoom point-and-shoot camera.

And now, I'm off to the movies.  My friend Margo went to a double feature of "Magic Mike" and "Magic Mike XXL" and asked if I wanted to go, too.  I didn't want to leave work that early (I would've had to have left by 4:00 or so), so I'm just going to see "Magic Mike XXL."  I'll have a report when I get home. ;)

Be back later.

Tonight's feature is an odd, almost three-hour war movie, The Young Lions, with a prissy, blond Marlon Brando sporting a bad German accent, Dean Martin and Montgomery Clift. I like the pacing of the first hour, but there's still two to go.

It's amusing, I suppose, that Donald has Van Dean as his guest.  And that's all I'll say about that, because I think we know that our little mentally ill stalker will immediately cut and paste anything I post here and send it right along.  It's happened before and it will happen again.  If anyone would like to know why I find that amusing I am always available via Private Message right here at haineshisway.com.

Had the quick trip to the editing room, then went to the Coral Cafe and left there about 12:50.  At one I got a call asking where I was - seems our Kritzerland rehearsal was starting at one - unfortunately I thought it was starting at our usual time of three.  Oh, well.  I managed to get there pretty quickly, albeit ten minutes late.

Rehearsal was not a walk in the park - a lot of key adjustments, and a lot of work to be done between now and the stumble-through.  But the cast will be great and the songs are great and I'm totally smitten with our opening number - that one almost did me in.  It's three young girls doing An Old-Fashioned Love Song.  I knew we'd have to figure out the key, but I couldn't remember which way, up or down.  When they sang it, it was ridiculously low, so I kept asking Shelly Markham to raise it and nothing we did was working and he was totally confused by all the keys because the actual key of the song is confusing because of the way it begins.  I should really have just walked over and looked at the music but I didn't.  The original key was Bb so I kept raising it, finally ending up in F.  But I just wasn't getting it and FINALLY I walked over to the music and had the girls sing it again in the original key - and they were singing an octave lower than what was written.  Had anyone said that to me I could have had it fixed in four seconds, because it wasn't about RAISING the key, it was LOWERING the key.  I asked why they were singing an octave under the notes and they said it was too high the other way :)  Once I understood, I simply told Shelly to drop from Bb to G and voila it was perfect.

bk - have you ever considered keeping a written (or digital) diary or calendar? They can be very helpful. For someone as busy as you are, especially.

That, or a personal assistant.       :)

Went to Gelson's and got a few items for snacking during the next week.  For tonight, I made two little no-fat small tortillas, filled them with no-fat "Mexican" cheese and some salsa - voila - perfect low calorie snack.  Now having melon balls.  I wrote melon galls, which I kind of like better.

If I wasn't a vegetarian I would be in big trouble.

There never were extra workers, just the two who drove up with the truck.  They left at 8:30.  We went for a walk and returned home as the street lights went on.

The story was very simple.  The guys from the original movie, except for Matthew McConaughey, decide to get together for one last male stripping convention.  It was a pretty good movie.  There were probably only five people in the theater, though.

The medical community now recognizes that, when possible, preventing their biological puberty makes it easier to transition since they won't have to reverse what naturally happens.  It's very interesting.
