Well, you've read the notes, the notes read, signed, read, and spoke of show choir, and now it is time for you to post until the reading cows come home.

If you are in the Los Angeles area next Sunday (4/17), please stop by Dark Delicacies in Burbank at 2 pm.
I'll be signing copies of MURDER IN BABYLON, my novel based on the William Desmond Taylor murder.
It would be nice to meet some of you that I've never met face-to-face.
The address is 3512 W. Magnolia Blvd.
See you there.
-
DR JohnG that story is so sad. :(
-
BK congrats on the successful book signing and reading!
I have never seen a show choir (except on tv and movies) perform but that sounds super interesting and intriguing that they have such high production values. Must have been amazing to watch.
-

I woke up way too early so I am going to try and take a nap.

BK congrats on the successful book signing and reading!

Nice pictures in the notes. Excellent reading and show choir reports.
I am also especially enjoying reading about progress on the LA Show!

My region-free blu-ray DVD player is on its way out, I regret to say, and I need to purchase a new one. I wish I were more tech-savvy since each offers different options. Advice?

Good
evening morning afternoon, all.
Back, from a whirlwind tour of two blocks of beautiful downtown Schenectady, and THE LION KING at Proctor's. A mighty fine day and evening were had, and it's an easy 2 1/2 hour drive up there.
Always nice to be back at home on a beautiful day, of course ... where a lovely BOOK was waiting in my mailbox. :)
-
Jane, I remember that dinner very well - I've only been once since then.
-
I'm up - I didn't get to sleep until two so I got eleven hours, which I needed.
-
Oh Spring where are you?
It turned cold here today. Them temp is all that much lower but there isn't any sun to warm us.
-
Jane, I remember that dinner very well - I've only been once since then.
Not all that often. We used to take Keith's mother to the one in Santa Monica.
-
Good Day All:
TOD:
What are everyones favorite movies from the forties???
-
Still cold here today as well.....indeed SPRING, where are you?
-
Chilly in Manhattan. I've stayed inside all day.

When I was in show choir (30 years ago), it was nothing like it is now. We did not have "such high production values." We just wore black pants and vests with gold shirts, and had some simple choreography. We sounded good, but it definitely was a much simpler time.

I got my Toshiba multi-region Blu-ray/DVD player on eBay for only about $200. I love it.
-
And now that I've just gotten here, I must leave...for a while, at least. We're having a cast party for "The Credeaux Canvas" and I need to write checks for everyone (who wants one) because last night's show was a benefit performance for the actors and crew!
-
Already, several people said that they would just donate it back to TAO, so I won't have to write (and void) those checks. The cast party is going to be outside at The Abandoned Olympia Brewery. I also need to find out exactly where it is. ::)
-
Have a good rest of the day, all!

That is nice.

I have my iPhone in my back pocket and am listening to Pandora. The music goes where I go :)

We had a lovely spring walk at Fort Vancouver along Officer's Row.

That photo is sooo big I have to slide it from side to side to see all of the flowers and trees.
-
In the morning we went out to brunch and then stopped at the farmers market for Challah. Keith likes the cranberry & orange but the orange does not agree with me. Normally I get plain or raisin. Both are good for making french toast. Today they had cinnamon and I got that. Oh, is it yummy.
-
Since it was chilly out we decided to go to a movie before walking. We saw Alan Rickman's last physical movie, Eye in the Sky. It was sad when I first saw him, but then I became lost in the story. All the performances were excellent.
I said physical since he will be the voice of the Blue Caterpillar in Alice Through the Looking Glass.
-
Lovely photo DR JANE.
-
Thank you.
-
Since I have only walked 5 miles today I think I shall go out for a short one. I think it will be rude to walk with my music playing. Maybe it won't be crowded out there. It was yesterday with the beautiful weather.
-
Sunday evening greetings! I was up at 5:30 this morning and on my way to Lima with Richard at 7:15. We stopped at the grocery on the way back and I've vegged in front of the TV ever since we got home. Watched some recaps of the World Figure Skating Championships, the movie CAROL, and tonight's episode of CALL THE MIDWIFE. We're now waiting for the 2-hour ELEMENTARY, which seems to be delayed by half an hour. Did some sporting event run over this afternoon?

One word, DR Jane - earbuds!
-
I can't wear them because of my hearing aids. My cousin has hearing aids that are blue tooth comparable with his iPhone. He loves it. They came out after I got my hearing aids.
I took my hearing aids out to try the buds, and they wouldn't stay in my ears. Even if I could have heard Keith talking they would be difficult to use :D

Check on amazon. That's where I bought mine.

Lovely photo DR JANE.
Indeed.
-
Hello, 1 guest.
-
Where is everyone else?
-
Watching a strange little teen comedy called Wet Hot American Summer. It's pretty funny. Got a huge cast with David Hyde-Pierce, Jeanne Garafalo, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Bradley Cooper and so many others.
-
And I need to get back to my taxes.
-
Maybe tomorrow.
-
Has anyone read Fate and Furies by Lauren Groff? Supposedly one of the best novels of last year. I've started it and it's good, but it's definitely a little different.
-
I bought some pork chops this morning and let them them spend the day marinating in a mixture of honey, soy sauce, orange juice and garlic
-
I cooked them up this evening and served them with some rice and peas

Jane I cannot believe all the azaleas are in bloom there. It has been so cold here none of the azaeleas here are even in bud

That's a very nice picture, Jane.

My battery is dying...
So for the first time ever, I'm considering getting a "smart" phone. I got an e-mail from Verizon with some time-sensitive deals and one of the phones they're offering has what most smart phones don't, and that's a removeable battery. Which means that if the battery dies, you don't have take or send in the whole phone just to get a new battery. It also has 32 GB internal memory with an SD card slot that could handle up to 2TB! My Samsung tablet (which is only a year and four months old) only has 16 GB internal, and can only support a 128 GB card.
A miracle of modern technology. :D
-
Great news, George. I'm still not smart enough to use my smartphone.
-
Got knee-deep into my taxes. Should be somewhat simple to finish up.
-
Started a concert film called The Roxy featuring Frank Zappa and the Mothers.
I don't really remember much Zappa from back in the day, but I had the soundtrack of 200 Motels then. I don't remember liking the music much because it was so "out there." Well, the stuff in The Roxy is fairly tame, kind of like blues and the progressive jazz of, say, Spyro Gyra mixed together. Some of it is actually a lot of fun.
-
I seem to recall Mr. Zappa was a big fan of Varese.
-
Hey, George, we're up to 3 guests.
-
I wonder who they are.
-
I have to be going to bed soon.
-
But not before we move this party along.
-
Let's keep the party polite
-
Never get out of my sight.
-
Stick with me, baby ...
-
I'm the fellow you came in with ...
-
Luck be a lady tonight.

What am I, Marlon Brando all of a sudden?
-
Hey, George, we're up to 3 guests.
Hello 3 guests! Come and join the party! ;D
-
Let's move on, before I sing some more.

I finished Jack Viertel's book on the Secret of the American Musical today. I enjoyed it for the most part and I liked his perspective on most shows (except Book of Mormon), but I felt like he might have offered some more valuable information if he had analyzed more than hits. Sometimes, the flawed shows have more interesting information to impart than the hits.
-
Viertel also doesn't seem to have much affection for most writers of shows today, except for Lin-Miranda Hamilton.
-
Well, that's it for me.
-
Good night, all.
-
Good evening!
-
Again, to whom am I speaking?
-
It looks like I will be trying to do this alone.
-
Thank you, Kate, for offering a topic for the day.

There was a time when a topic like that would lead us to a couple hundred posts.

Now look at us!

Not a single post on the topic.

We have been lucky with the weather this week, not that I know what normal is yet. I seem to recall it was sunny last year when we decided to buy our condo and then wet and cold when we closed around April 23rd.

Our new phones are unlocked, meaning they can be used with any phone server. I much prefer Keith's Samsung Galaxy Edge but it is huge. I know a lot of people that have the small iPhone because of the size, which I know is important to you. The small Samsung phone wasn't as nice as the iPhone.
I suggest you play with the phones before buying one.

Oh, the smaller phone is harder to read ;D
That's the other thing. My sister has a fairly large smart phone so that she can read books on it, but I don't want something THAT big. The one I'm looking at, the LG G5, hopefully has a smaller display, but not so small that I can't read stuff on it.

Nice catches DR George.

Ask Vixmom, I bet she would know.

Well, so much for having a ME day. From the time I got up I've been working on our problem song. First having a very long conversation with the lyricist about why I feel it doesn't work. We talked it through thoroughly then she asked to take another pass at it. I went and had a patty melt and some fries, then came home. I read her new lyric was was much better - suddenly the song had some storytelling rather than being a presentation of facts - it's now song by the Dahlia herself (post-death, looking back) and that immediately draws you in. But it went on way too long past its expiry point but I wanted to first make sure I felt it would work with the kind of music I'd first envisioned, so I sat down at the piano and came up with a feel and chords I liked and as I did that the whole thing just sort of came to me and I wrote the music. It was suddenly very noir and moody - the tango just wasn't right for it - it does present a new problem sort of, in that the tango in terms of its tempo kind of suited that slot - now I'll have two ballads in a row, but there's a monologue before the next one starts and the next one is the gay sequence and it's so different than anything else in the show that I think we'll get away with it. If not I can always try to swap out the Dahlia with something perkier, but I'll rehearse it this way and we'll see. I sent Adryan (the lyricist) the tune and she really liked it, and then we discussed the length and how to shorten it, and I also made some suggestions for lyric changes that weren't scanning properly, all of which she used. So, we're still figuring out the final verse - I just sent her my idea - I wrote one line of it and cobbled the other lines from about twelve lines she'd written - I think it works.
-
Well...a lull.
;)
-
And on that note (A#), I'm off to bed.
Good night. 8)
