Cast and crew of this theater group always convene at a local diner or tavern for good food and drink after the last show.  This diner was very nice (I'd never been to it), but the closer-in-to-NYC ones would have killed it in selection and quality.  However, a wonderful time was had, and the lateness of the hour surely had its impact on everyone's Sunday morning.
Title: Re: THE STUMBLE-THROUGH WITHOUT STUMBLES
Post by: ChasSmith on August 07, 2016, 07:08:47 AM
It certainly affected my sleep and dreams, the main one of which seemed to have something to do with a musical something or other, someone getting rid of good office supplies, and the plowing up of some farmland.

3/4 of our household has left for church, but I'm home enjoying some solitude and slow time.  Three mornings in a row of having to be in the northern Cincinnati 'burbs were enough for me.

My day should be most enjoyable.  I'm going up to the theater in Bethlehem where ACT ONE happened, and attending the matinee of ZORBA which will be most interesting on many counts.

In addition to the show itself, I look forward to seeing folks I got to know in the course of doing ACT ONE, as well as whichever of the Abbey's nuns may be in attendance for this performance - including Mother Dolores Hart and Sister Margaret Georgina, granddaughter of one General George S. Patton.  These are wonderful and fascinating people.

I just looked up the calories in one piece of Matos.  They very from 90 calories, plain thin slice, up to 130 depending on the type and brand.

I do have someplace I have to be, but I can't be there....so I won't.

Because of the car business, I was not able to do the display case on Thursday, and I won't be able to do it today.  I shall have to do it tomorrow.

I know.  I just thought the base calorie was smaller.

Keith usually adds caramelized apples when he makes it.  Not having apples I suggested he use blueberries.  As expected it made for a messy matzo brei.  It was different, maybe not as good as usual but I enjoyed it very much and even finished even though he makes more than I can eat.

I didn't do anything - it was from a restaurant.  But it's simple - just Google and you will find site after site that tells the same calorie story.

I've never tried to make matzoh brei other than fried, but I guess you can bake matzoh brei the way French toast is sometimes baked - then that wouldn't add any calories, beyond the base of the eggs and the matzoh.

Back -- from an absolutely lovely ZORBA.

It was great to see a lot of people, and the production was wonderful.  I'll return next week (their final weekend) to see it again and perhaps I can be a little bit critical of something or other then, but it's a remarkable achievement.

Music, too, and I'd been afraid it would leave much to be desired since there's no way you can put more than a small band in there.

They were intent upon a bouzouki, of course, and they got a player ..... who had to learn the entire show by ear.  He probably didn't play the book precisely as written, but the MD worked with him till he got what he wanted and it succeeded in providing the flavor.

Six players.  The MD played a harpsichord patch throughout (except soft piano for "Woman"), and a second keyboardist played the accordion book.  In addition to them and the bouzouki player, just percussion (drums plus xylo, bells, and timpani pad), a cellist, and flute/piccolo.  A violinist bailed on them at the last minute.

If they had added so much as one trumpet it would have crossed a line, because their intent was to render the score with a minimal group, reflecting the setting and feel of the small village.  It worked, and even conveyed the more powerful passages nicely.

I think I posted photographic evidence of the ACT ONE set design.  Well, they reused and adapted it, and if today's photographic evidence comes back from Kodak okay (ha ha ha, a little humor there) I'll post it later.

I'm going to review the details of the show this week before seeing it again next Friday or Saturday.  I wish I could share a piece of audio or video but these folks are very protective of that and it just ain't happening.

Did you drop your 110 cartridge at the Fotomat?

John G - Do you recall when the Stephen King-John Mellencamp GHOST BROTHERS... was going to be directed by Liv Ullmann?

Well, she has done two of the finest musicals in history. Well, OK, she's done two musicals. She would probably know more about musicals than the two writers did.

Good morning. I realized I forgot my camera about halfway to the trail. Saw a coyote and rattlesnake that would have been very photographable.

Spell check does not like "photographable."

Your looks are laughable.
Spell check don't like photographable.
Yet you're my favorite work of art.

In honor of the Rodgers Had Hart show tonight.

Spell check does not like "photographable."

Rodgers and Hart didn't have a problem with it.

Or at least with "unphotographable."

Spellcheck has a very limited vocabulary, IMHO.

Great minds -- and ours, DR Jeanne.

I've never tried to make matzoh brei other than fried, but I guess you can bake matzoh brei the way French toast is sometimes baked - then that wouldn't add any calories, beyond the base of the eggs and the matzoh.

I don't think it taste all that great, but then I never order it out either.

But no syrup?  No honey?  :)

I like a little raw sugar on mine, unless Keith makes it with caramelized fruit.  Then it is usually sweet enough for me.  He likes maple syrup.

The War and Peace miniseries has come in to the library. It looks like my next few days will be taken up with this.

I remember my summer in Middletown, Ohio, I spent one week devouring the book. I would go home from work every day and stay up until I had finished 200 pages or so each evening. It was wonderful. I hope the series is anywhere near that good.

I love the idea of Paul Dano as Pierre, and Elmore's friend, Stephen Rea, is also in the cast.

As usual some idiot on his bike raced passed way too close to us.  It is rarely the same idiot that does this.  A hand raised while talking or if we move slightly over there will be an accident one day.  I don't know why these people can't slow down and move over before passing, and/or call out to us beforehand.

Back -- from an absolutely lovely ZORBA.

It was great to see a lot of people, and the production was wonderful.  I'll return next week (their final weekend) to see it again and perhaps I can be a little bit critical of something or other then, but it's a remarkable achievement.

I would love to see this show.  I've always enjoyed the recordings.

Made it through the first half of "War and Peace." I guess War is done and I have the Peace part coming up. Ha.

Anyway, it's a trashy soap opera version of the novel. I may have to watch the 9-hour Russian version, which I loved, after this.

Well, folks, we had us a truly wonderful show tonight - amazing Rodgers and Hart songs, and a cast that was absolutely wonderful, each and everyone - Roger Befeler, Will Collyer, Jenna Lea Rosen, Christina Saffran, and Sami Staitman (and her sweet and talented friends Sierra Morgan and Samantha Rosenberg). Add to that the fantastic guest star Bill Hayes and MD Alby Potts and you really can't go wrong. One of my all-time favorite shows and a great audience to boot. Now on to our sixth anniversary and 70th show come September 4.

Came home to find we'd had a power outage at some point - apparently it didn't last long, but long enough to totally shut down the computer, blow out the little cell tower (not working at all - thanks DWP and your ineptitude), and of course had to reset the clocks - plus the phones shut off, which sent the alarm system into a dither, so I had to call that company and make sure everything was okay.
