BK, on your inside flap blurb, is the word supposed to be posit or post?

Posit (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/posit):

2:  to assume or affirm the existence of :  postulate

3:  to propose as an explanation :  suggest

The only time I really heard it was in the TV show "Fringe."  The lead character of Walter Bishop was always saying things like "I posit..."

Finished the Mahler first and am almost done with the Mahler second - while I know there are many fine Mahler cycles, for me the Bernstein will always be choice one for all but the sixth.  For that one I prefer several other recordings where the balances are better.

TOD thoughts:

For various reason, my favorite pop music while growing up - in terms of albums I actually bought - were the Partridge Family and the Osmonds.   I didn't catch on to disco music until college.

So it makes sense that BK was a big celebrity in our home, even more so by the time of the NYC premiere of his film!

I bought a lot of singles when I was in school.....I didn't have a particular favorite group or singer - outside of Annette, whose singles were nearly impossible to find in these here parts.

Then the Beatles came along, and I started discovering groups.  After TB, one of the groups I really liked was The Animals with Eric Burdon and The Tremeloes.....

This morning, around 11, my Guys & Dolls colleague Jason is coming by to discuss this new scores and to pick up what I hand him.  Around 12:30, I will board a bus for City Center an the matinee of Big River.  I will watch some more of War and Peace tonight, but I'm really looking forward to Alec Baldwin's turn as Der Führer President Trump.  I wonder if/when we'll see Rosie O'Donnell as Steve Bannon or Christine Ebersole as Betsy Devos.

And bring back Laura Benanti!

I LOVED the theme from "Mahogony" - definitely one of my favorites. I was a big Dianna Ross fan and loved "Touch Me in the Morning" too. I also remember loving the song "One Tin Soldier" from around that time.

When I was very young, my favorite music was The Partridge Family and The Jackson 5.

As I grew older my favorites were: Elton John (especially "Someone Saved My Life Tonight"), Supertramp, Doobie Brothers, Crosby Stills and Nash, Bread, John Denver, Billy Joel...and many others that are probably more in the category of rock than pop.
I liked a group called Yaz, which was very techno.
I was a very big fan of art rock, which was Genesis, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and Yes.

It seems very unfair but I can't imagine winning the fight, at least regarding the ticket.  Once towed and paid for, forget it.

We are the ones who had to pay for two parking tickets in L.A., two tickets in different locations with almost identical date and time stamps.  It didn't matter that it was impossible to be in two places at the same time.

It's in the 80s here today, with the sun shining. In other neighborhoods, I saw the first crepe myrtles in bloom. For those who don't know it, this is a tree that gets covered every spring with purple blossoms that smell deeply of grape Kool-Aid.

And I also saw a red bud tree covered with those beautiful magenta buds.

I am home from th matinee, the talkback, and a brief visit with Rob Berman and parents.  I thought the show was beautifully staged, but I cannot say that I like the piece, which falls into the trap of making perhaps too much of the King and the Duke.  I admired it, and I liked much of the music.  the band was wonderful.  Tomorrow, I'll listen to the OBC recording.

The album is better than the show. You're right about the King and the Duke stealing the show. (I wasn't too thrilled with them in the novel because I thought they took up too much time.) Still, I enjoyed the musical the first time around with the full staging.

Maybe that's the trouble with journey musicals (Candide being another example). The episodes or adventures can vary widely.

The cast was great.  The young actor playing Huck is really excellent, and I loved his duets with Jim.  The King and the Duje were in excellent hands and very funny.  The problem is that it's like Candide in that essentially the same scene is repeated over and over: Huck and Jim encounter vanity, venality, humanity at its worst before they hop back on the raft.  Even the epic and wonderful PBS miniseries, which had Richard Kiley, Lillian Gish, Barnard Hughes, and Jim Dale in the cast, felt the same.

I still prefer Lillian Hellman's libretto for Candide over any others.  she at least tried to solve the problem with a through-line and character development that Voltaire never considered.

She tried guessing what the surprise was all the way there. She asked if we were going to a college, and I said yes. She asked very excitedly: "Are we going to a lecture???"

What a great kid!

It sounds lovely.  It is 50 degrees here and the sun is shining.  I am happy.

At one time I had an agent helping, but it never amounted to anything.  I've certainly had interest in the Adriana books but that hasn't gone anywhere either.

Saturday evening greetings!  Richard and I took several bags of books to the AAUW sale site and then bought tickets for an early afternoon showing of LA LA LAND.  We killed an hour or so at Barnes & Noble before showtime.  The movie was not what I expected, but we enjoyed it.  We then went for a late lunch/early dinner at Bravo Italian Cucina and to Kroger for some groceries.  It was a beautiful day to be out and away from our torn up bathroom.

It wasn't until Sandra pulled out the tickets that she knew she was going to see the show.

Just spent three hours finishing the commissioned song.  The music kind of came first for this one and I boxed myself into constant triple rhymes - I love doing them but they're very hard - the first two are easy, it's always the damn third that fouls you up.

Had a wonderful dinner with friends at the San Antonio Country Club, not a place I frequent. But my friend Gail is a member and there was a wonderful singer tonight, so I was glad to go. The band backing the singer was also very good, and I got in so fun dancing, which I don't get to do often.

Dessert was one of my favorites: peppermint ice cream with a chocolate brickle sauce that you pour over it and it hardens.

Listening to a highly praised performance of the Mahler 6th by Thomas Sanderling - the CD is impossible to find at any price, but thankfully I get to stream it for free on Amazon.  The joy of Prime.

Just finishing up listening to the second disc of LA Now and Then. It is certainly one of my favorite cast recordings from last year.  Best part is that I seem to prefer different songs each time I listen to it.

Tonight, the ones that stood out were Sunset Strip 1965 and The Black Dahlia with special mention going to the band having fun on the exit music.

And thank you, Jane. I just finished one part of the foot work. Now I just have to rewrite it a couple of times to get it pared down.

This Sanderling is a very nice performance - can't say if it's my favorite - have to listen to a few others, but I do like it better than the Bernstein, but maybe not as much as the Barbirolli.  There's nice clarity and a few details that I haven't heard in other performances.

But what a symphony.  If you have Amazon Prime go listen to it.  Just search Mahler Symphony 6 Thomas Sanderling - I love that part of Prime.
