Well, you've read the notes, the notes had occasional fun bits, and now it is time for you to post until the occasionally fun cows come home.

The blizzard warning is over, and I called it right this time.  The last storm was really grisly, but the prediction for last night's storm turned out to be wrong.

I slept quite poorly.  I do remember that one dream was a terrifying nightmare, but I remember no details.  My last dream involved my Aunt Jean and my Uncle Harold and a visit to their house.  Some college frends were in the dream as well.

How bad is it?  Manhattan seems to be slush, ice and about four inches of snow, I think.  I will step out in a bit to post a letter and go to the corner bofega.

We easily have several inches already, and the wind is kicking up enough that we're having intermittent white-outs.  In fact, the Weather Channel is calling zero visibility in a number of these towns right now.

I finished my proofreading about 2:00 and spent the afternoon on the phone or reading.  My retired press agent friend, Bob Ullman, who's 95, called me to tell me how proud he was of me.  I hadn't spoken to him in four years, and I cannot let this time get by again.

Bob was the press agent for four Ethel Merman shows - Call Me Madam, Happy Hunting, Gypsy, and Hello Dolly! - and the 1964 revival of Boys From Syracuse, among many others.  When I spoke to him last, I sent him the CD set of Dearest Enemy.  I told him I'd send him Roberta, and he told me he saw Bob Hope, Lyda Roberti, Tamara, and the original cast in 1933.

I am back from my first hour (the rest of the hours will take place tomorrow) of carving a driving path through the area behind the garage.  While I was working on that, the neighbor was plowing the length of the driveway.  The snow is at least a foot deep, and I'm grateful the storm was somewhat downgraded because right now I can't imagine the doody we'd be in with twice that much.  The clearing is going a little better than I'd expected, but the wind is actually making the whole job much worse than it should be.  But that's our stab at it for now.  Tomorrow... well, tomorrow's another day.

I met Bob at a party given by my freind my friend, Press agent Philip Bloom, who died after he was struck by a car in 1988 or so. He had been press agent for Elaine Stritch, Ethel Merman, Ruth Draper, Paula Lawrence, and others.  He was the press agent for the Cheryl Crawford revival of Porgy and Bess in the early 1940s,  City Ballet from its founding through the 1960s.  Philip was in either his late 70s or early 80s when he died.  He was a dear friend.

Bob and I talk about Philip whenever he calls.  I think Bob's career began working for Philip.

At that party in 1985, when I met Bob, I was talking to a group of retired press men, all ast 65 years of age, and one of them asked what I was working on.  I said I was restoring a Cole Porter-Moss Hart show from 1935 called Jubilee.  Yjru all knew it, several had seen it, and when one man rattled off the cast and got to Charles Walters, another saud, "oh, yes, Cole Porter's lover."

Looking from the front door across the driveway to Kristi and Nathan's cars and his work truck.  That thin black line is where the plow actually got down to asphalt.

And finally (yay! the last one!), those stacked chairs are in the way, but that's the grill with a good 14 inches of snow on it (looks like even more due to the profile of the grill).

That's a great story, Larry!

Watching an early made-for-TV movie called Patterns with Van Heflin, Elizabeth Wilson, Ed Begley and more. It was Rod Serling's first time at bat and it's a doozy. Great story of power hungry types. Very well filmed and acted. But those words. They're just beautiful, crackling dialog set to the eternal rhythm of typing and ticker tape machines.

It's right off the freeway at exit 102 in Tumwater.  It's called Ramirez Mexican Store (http://ramirezmexicanstore.com) and both my friend and I enjoyed it.  I had the Enchiladas Platter and it was good.  It's not a regular sit-down restaurant.  It's like a grocery store with tables, but it was an enjoyable experience and the two servers who dealt with us were very nice.
