Well, of course...but I wouldn't have had to do it last night at the last minute.  Of course, that's totally my fault for not keeping up with it as the month went along, but that's a separate issue. ::)

I finished my proofreading about 2:00 and spent the afternoon on the phone or reading.  My retired press agent friend, Bob Ullman, who's 95, called me to tell me how proud he was of me.  I hadn't spoken to him in four years, and I cannot let this time get by again.

Bob was the press agent for four Ethel Merman shows - Call Me Madam, Happy Hunting, Gypsy, and Hello Dolly! - and the 1964 revival of Boys From Syracuse, among many others.  When I spoke to him last, I sent him the CD set of Dearest Enemy.  I told him I'd send him Roberta, and he told me he saw Bob Hope, Lyda Roberti, Tamara, and the original cast in 1933.

Then I spoke to Joshie, who was stuck in Astoria, since the subways running above ground were canceled today.  He was in a "I'm orchestrating and I'll see you tomorrow" mood, but he's feeling pressured with all we have to do before Friday.

I am back from my first hour (the rest of the hours will take place tomorrow) of carving a driving path through the area behind the garage.  While I was working on that, the neighbor was plowing the length of the driveway.  The snow is at least a foot deep, and I'm grateful the storm was somewhat downgraded because right now I can't imagine the doody we'd be in with twice that much.  The clearing is going a little better than I'd expected, but the wind is actually making the whole job much worse than it should be.  But that's our stab at it for now.  Tomorrow... well, tomorrow's another day.

What the hell -- I'm going to try taking some photographic evidence of our lovely whited out world.  I'm not going to re-bundle up so it'll just be looking out the garage or something.  And then it's shower time.

I met Bob at a party given by my freind my friend, Press agent Philip Bloom, who died after he was struck by a car in 1988 or so. He had been press agent for Elaine Stritch, Ethel Merman, Ruth Draper, Paula Lawrence, and others.  He was the press agent for the Cheryl Crawford revival of Porgy and Bess in the early 1940s,  City Ballet from its founding through the 1960s.  Philip was in either his late 70s or early 80s when he died.  He was a dear friend.

Bob and I talk about Philip whenever he calls.  I think Bob's career began working for Philip.

At that party in 1985, when I met Bob, I was talking to a group of retired press men, all ast 65 years of age, and one of them asked what I was working on.  I said I was restoring a Cole Porter-Moss Hart show from 1935 called Jubilee.  Yjru all knew it, several had seen it, and when one man rattled off the cast and got to Charles Walters, another saud, "oh, yes, Cole Porter's lover."

I mentioned Charles Plant, who played the Johnny Weismuller character, and another said, "He ended up selling antiques on Lexington Avenue."  I won't find that info on Google!

Hope these aren't too large.  This is looking out the garage door.  The entire area isn't carved out yet, but a car could get in and out.  I think we're looking at more than a foot deep.  I'll measure tomorrow.

Looking from the front door across the driveway to Kristi and Nathan's cars and his work truck.  That thin black line is where the plow actually got down to asphalt.
