Someone linked the imdb trivia for MAME on ATC, and this was interesting:

In response to criticisms about her croaky singing voice, heavy smoker Lucille Ball said "Mame stayed up all night, drinking champagne. What did you expect her to sound like? Julie Andrews?"

Yesterday, wife Sandy and I watched THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN with Eddie Hodges, Tony Randall and Archie Moore.

It's still an entertaining movie.

Frankly, with all the "political correctness" and anti-Mark Twain sentiment in the country today, I admire TCM for having the "balls" to show it.

Since Broderick Crawford was in it, we also watched THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE with James Cagney.

It was a good print and the film had some wonderful scenes and performances.

However, despite the fact that it was adapted from a Pulitizer Prize-wining play, it has dated quite badly.

It was a play of its time.

I fed the cats at 7:00 and went back to bed until 8:30, so now I'm moving about and thinking about what I need to accomplish today:
1. Make the bed
2. Clean the litter and patrol with Annabelle
3. Wash the kitties' dishes
4. Breakfast
5. Tidy up and vacuum
6. Decide where to place the air purifier and clear space
7. Finish up "A Secretary Is Not A Toy"

Today I will also be making a call to Amazon in the Case of the Disappearing Reviews, which should be interesting.

Basically, what happened was this:  I read GEE way back when and put a review on Amazon. Later, housemate Kristi read her own copy and also put up a review. It was up there for a few glorious seconds, when both hers and mine got zapped by an unseen force.

She called Amazon, and long story short (it took forever due to both the general communication challenge and the rep's inability to see the cause or give any meaningful explanation), but she finally got an email indicating that the reason for hers being taken down was that her account has "elements" in common with another account from which a review of the same product had originated. This, in Amazon's view, indicates the strong possibility of bias in both reviews.

When I talked to them about my own having disappeared, my rep could also "see" nothing wrong and said that if I didn't get an email saying someone had flagged it as offensive or inappropriate, then it was probably a system glitch and that I should feel free to resubmit my review. That, of course, was also blatantly bullshit, as when I went to do so this morning, I was blocked from doing so -- as Kristi still is.

So now I'll be attempting to convince a rep (in the U.S.) that there were not only two separate purchases of the item (three, actually, as I reviewed based on my Kindle reading, and we each bought a hard copy from Kritzerland), and that there is

    (get ready for it)

                                      no collusion!     :)

Good luck!

This is more frustrating than our missing package that was returned to the warehouse,  at 3:00am, due to a non existant mailing address.  Our address is correct and no delivery person was looking for us at that hour.

Yesterday my Indianapolis Theatre Home - the professional Phoenix Theatre...moved from the space where they had been located to a brand new lovely facility several blocks toward the center of town.

I can hardly wait to attend a show there....and perhaps WORK there as well.  If my friend Bryan who is the Artistic Director needs an old man in something. So exciting.

This is actually the third space they have occupied.  When Ibegan with them in 1985, they were in a storefront on 9th Street.

The old space:

DR Vixmom I am so happy that you are home and resting today.  I was very worried yesterday after reading DR Ginny's post. I hope that you are feeling much better today. You are such a shining light on HHW and we definitely need you at 100%.

In doing a little homework before calling, it looks like DR Jennifer is absolutely correct when it comes to that rule -- in and of itself -- so I know there's no point in arguing that. However, I think I can make the case for restoring just my own review and not both of them .... in spite of this first statement (yes? no?):

If your review is removed or rejected because it does not comply with our guidelines concerning promotional content, you may not resubmit a review on the same product, even if the resubmitted review includes different content.

Customers in the same household may not post multiple reviews of the same product.

Today was Annabelle's first elevator ride where she did not panic and try to escape.  After our patrol, she rode down to the first floor with me to pick up yesterday's mail and then back up with no fright.  She's now telling Thatch about the big adventure.

I've now accomplished items 1,2,3, and part of 5 on my list.  The laundry room, was empty so I had an easy time washing out the litter pans.  I think I'll finish up Item 5 and then have some breakfast.

I need to add as well Item 8: begin pulling books for Connecticut libraries, which I will tie in with clearing space for the air purifier.

Okay, I just spent 45-plus minutes on the phone with Amazon. About half of that time was spent on hold and the other half hitting a brick wall with them repeating the same system message that a guideline was violated and therefore a review cannot be re-submitted. And yes, I started with a U.S. person, though I can't vouch for every single one I talked to. I just let the last person have an earful (maybe not quite in BK fashion, but close, damned close), and gave up.

(Sorry, BK. I'll be happy to put the review up elsewhere to even the score.)

It looks like they are the epitome of flexibility when compared with this exchange from  the Talkin Broadway board - every word guaranteed verbatim  Everything short of their co-owner Mike Reynolds twirling his mustache and tying me to the train tracks with the train coming.

I think Amazon is being very silly because I think the meaning behind "two people in the same household" is family, not two unrelated people who happen to share an address, i.e roommates who have nothing to do with each other.   Thanks Jane for reposting ChasSmith's review.  And ChasSmith if you can cut and paste you could also leave at barnesandnotble.com and goodreads.  It's all helpful.

This decision is not open for further discussion.  The only pertinent reference at this point is paragraph 9.2 from Talkin' Broadway's Terms of Service:  9.2 Talkin' Broadway may, in its sole discretion, terminate or suspend your access to all or part of Talkin' Broadway without notice and for any reason, including, without limitation, breach or assignment of these Terms of Service.

I think Mr Reynolds is just plain nasty. But I suspect Amazon is more a lack of competence and not thinking things through.

Well that wasn't rude at all!. Do I even want to know why they write to you in that obnoxious tone?  The problem with amazon is that the CS really don't know what is going on IMO. They should know their own rule.

Amazon has been acting crazy for a while re: book reviews. They won't let anyone review a book if they think that you know the author. They won't let any two people in the same household. But what if they both read the book. I've heard of so many reviews removed it's crazy and scary. Because you have little recourse.

I wish I had checked if my review posted before we left to do an errand.  I have no idea if if posted or was removed because it was not my "material".  Now if I try to write a review it offers me options under items we have purchased but not under GEE.

I hope I am simply doing something wrong and just need the process explained to me.

Just looked, and it's amazing that this succeeded so easily. But may I ask a favor of you or Keith? The title of the review should be "A remarkable journey", and the system took a phrase out of the review containing the word "disappointment" which makes it look like a negative. I've always been able to correct such things in the past, so can you edit, and move the title from the body of the review to where it should be? And thanks again, DR Jane.

I enjoyed my own little remarkable journey this evening. Thanks to a very kind invitation from one Robert A. Harris, I attended a private test screening in the still-under-renovation Bedford Playhouse (http://www.bedfordplayhouse.org). The little village of Bedford was never on my beaten path and I never knew this theater existed. Over the years it had been subdivided horribly and treated shabbily otherwise, and nothing of quality remained. Through enormous community dedication and fundraising, it's about to rise like a phoenix to become a destination for film lovers and more.

The main auditorium has been redesigned and rebuilt to Mr. H's specifications. This evening we were blown away by a presentation of the Todd-AO Oklahoma!  As many times as I've seen that, it was like the proverbial first time, as this was the "copy" seen at the Chinese a few years ago, shown to the same specs.

They expect to begin public showings of both new and old films after Labor Day. This is a mere 35-minute drive from my house, and it's going to be a dream come true.

How rude! >:(

I have been beating my head against the piano all day with this song from yesterday.  There's one part that just was bugging me so much and funnily I could not get through recording it once without screwing it up in one of the verses.  I finally realized the line had to go and I had to completely rethink the rhyme pattern without losing what I liked about the feel of what I as doing.  I finally got it done and I think it's better now and certainly easier to sing in that section.
