I enjoyed my own little remarkable journey this evening. Thanks to a very kind invitation from one Robert A. Harris, I attended a private test screening in the still-under-renovation
Bedford Playhouse. The little village of Bedford was never on my beaten path and I never knew this theater existed. Over the years it had been subdivided horribly and treated shabbily otherwise, and nothing of quality remained. Through enormous community dedication and fundraising, it's about to rise like a phoenix to become a destination for film lovers and more.
The main auditorium has been redesigned and rebuilt to Mr. H's specifications. This evening we were blown away by a presentation of the Todd-AO
Oklahoma! As many times as I've seen that, it was like the proverbial first time, as this was the "copy" seen at the Chinese a few years ago, shown to the same specs.
They expect to begin public showings of both new and old films after Labor Day. This is a mere 35-minute drive from my house, and it's going to be a dream come true.
