Title: JUGGLING
Post by: bk on January 06, 2020, 12:29:42 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes juggled, and now it is time for you to post until the juggling cows come home.

I return to City Center this morning.  I've got about two-thirds of the endless and poorly-composed "Hit 'em on the Head" dance to get through.

Last night DR Jeanne posted this query:  I don't know how you work on one chart while listening to other music. Don't you need to "hear" the piece you're working on in your head?

I'm not composing, I'm only orchestrating, and to me it's like sitting down with a coloring book and filling in the colors.  If I were composing, i'd want quiet and to be near a piano to work out the kinks.

I think it's time for "Lost in Boston 5" and "Unsung Musicals 4."

Last night both Annabelle and Stella were quite difficult about their dinner.  They rejected chicken and beef, so I offered them chicken hearts and liver, which they nibbled at and left most.  Thatch had a veritable feast since he finishes everything theu leave behind.

The cats got a Petco gift certificate from Rob Berman's dog Hudson, so I need to make a stop there and pick up some goodies for them.  My best time is on the way back from physical therapy, so I need to call this morning and see if I've been approved for more sessions.

About ten days ago when I bumped the front of my car on the ice/snow at the entrance to my driveway....the "check engine" light came on.

So today I went to CAR X.  And waited.  At first the man said he didn't know if he had anyone who could look at it....then he said he did, as soon as the guy was done with the truck he was looking at.

SO.....I was waiting and watching MOTORTREND TV.....which is not very entertaining.  It turns out the diagnostic read that a "cylinder was missing out" - but it wasn't.  So the mechanic just reset it and said if it happens again, just bring it back.

NO CHARGE!!!  So I went and picked up my prescriptions...went to get Bird Seed....and went to a new store called Black Friday.

They have wire bins FULL of stuff....you can't really tell what some of it is.  And since it was Monday, everything was $3....on Wednesday it goes down to 25 cents....and started on Thursday at everything is $5.....it was quite an adventure....  I purchased a new shower head, a nice heavy throw with the solar system pictured on it, and a nice kid's pillow for my niece, Kay......

Great stuff:

“To be clear, The Washington Post does not endorse illicit drug use. And for most people, “Cats” is unnerving enough sober. It tells the story of a group of singing, dancing alley cats who compete for the chance to go to the Heaviside Layer, a metaphor for death and rebirth into the next of their nine lives. Critics have described the movie adaptation — which features a parade of superstars (Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and others) rendered as uncanny human-cat hybrids — as a feverish drug dream, a bad trip. It is expected to lose as much as $100 million, according to Variety.“

This morning I went to the high school that hires me for keyboard work, and picked up the books to their spring musical, Willy Wonka.

Hmm.

This stage version is based on the Gene Wilder movie, which I never remembered much of at all, so I'll have to watch it again. It seems like a strange choice for them, following Shrek and Addams Family and the like. At a glance, the music certainly doesn't look to be very challenging, but who knows.

I'm going to scan the books in so we can make work copies, then the other keyboardist and I (it calls for two) will decide on the programming -- whether to do it ourselves (he's a good MainStage programmer) or rent someone else's.

I have the complete works of Balzac (95 titles plus short stories), the Rougon-Macquart cycle from Zola (20 novels, including the one that was a little too purple to read in flight) and a bunch I've finished. That's the problem. I haven't updated anything lately.

First World problems.

A very frustrating one.  It is why I try to make sure I have a few books downloaded before traveling.  Of course you have had other things on your mind.

This might sound weird but why do you only have one or a few books on your ereader? I probably have 100.

Since I get most of my books from the library I only buy a few at a time.  That way I check if the library has the book before purchasing, it.  Sometimes I buy a book if I see it offered at a good price.

I'm home. I got the bird. I got groceries. I taught a dance class and now I'm at rest.

You have been busy.

I'm off to bed. My own bed. For the first time in weeks.

Sleep well.

I was just about to begin reading one of my Nook books when I received a notification that a library book automatically checked out.  Perfect timing.  Since the library book, Cemetery Road by Greg Iles, is almost 600 pages I had better read it first.

And where be George?

I'm here.  I'm working on burning the TCM hi-def broadcast of the Lansbury/Hearn Sweeney Todd onto a Blu-ray disc.  It's never been released on Blu-ray, so this'll be fun to do. :)

The most time consuming part of the burning of the Blu-ray process is adding all the chapter breaks.
Title: Re: JUGGLING
Post by: George on January 06, 2020, 11:53:19 PM
In the program that I'm using, I need to manually find and add every one...unless I set it to automatically set chapters every so many minutes, but that wouldn't be good.

But then, I remembered that I have the commercially released DVD!
Title: Re: JUGGLING
Post by: George on January 06, 2020, 11:54:28 PM
I can just go through that and write down all the chapter stops from that and then I won't have to decide exactly where and when to make the chapter breaks. ;D

I found it and saw that the whole DVD is 2 hours, 20 minutes and 15 seconds.

The file that I recorded from TCM is exactly the same length!

Post by: George on January 06, 2020, 11:58:28 PM
I don't know why I would've thought that they'd be different...maybe by a few seconds, but they were both exactly 2 hours, 20 minutes and 15 seconds long. :)
