Well, you've read the notes, the notes said farewell and hello, with an emphasis on the latter, and now it is time for you to post until the 2021 cows come home.

I had a dream about working on a Jerome Kern show about sexual identity, but I only recall images: riding an elevator, a rehearsal with a lot of ladies, hamburgers in a school cafeteria.  I don;t know if I were in Manhattan, college, or on board a ship. All are possible.

Around 5:00 Stella began driving me crazy.  When I got up, I realized the cats had eaten all their dry Meow Mix. Perhaps she was trying to rouse me to refill the dish?

My biggest hope for 2021? Trump is arrested and tried for treason, collusion, crimes against humanity, and sedition, and executed. I do not want to hear another word, read another tweet, and know that every time this bastard gets a moment, we have to hear how the election was a fraud and he won.

And it would be nice to know his entire scumbag family is in prison forever.

Thursday morning greetings!  Last night I was puttering at my art desk and listening to the rain.  All of a sudden, it seemed the rain stopped but, actually, it had turned to snow - big puffy flakes.  It was coming down pretty heavily when we went to bed, and now we have a nice dusting of decorative snow.

For 2021, I hope that our country returns to sanity - and over 70 million people will realize they have been lied to and stolen from by a man who should NEVER hold another position of power in politics OR business.

That theatre can return - I try to be optimistic about our summer season, but I'm just not sure right now.

And I wish good health to all and an end to the pandemic.

And some surprises.....GOOD ONES please.

I'm off on a short bike ride and then maybe to the shops.  I'm having my friend Sabrina and her husband over for brunch on Saturday and i have to pick up a few things - although it can be put off until tomororw.

Tonight, a drive-through of Christmas in the Park in San Jose.  Should be fun, at least it's something

For the last 40 years we've celebrated New Year's Eve with a soup-tasting party at the church. Soup and games until the wee hours (9 p.m.).

This year I'm making soup to enjoy at home. I'll drop off some vegetable barley soup for my daughter, and I'm having mushroom with wild rice.

May next week be easier.  I can't recall, when do you return home?

Plans are for some time after Jan. 6. I did manage to get a lot of work done, but the effort to get myself to do it was almost as much as the work itself.

There are just days like that, and I had several this week. People not being there both helped and hurt. Next week will be like being shot out of a cannon.

Picked up some packages but NO important envelopes - that's totally the USPS who, I was told, brought a tiny amount of mail today, clearly not wanting to be bothered with all the mail that's piled up.  Well, people depend on important envelopes and now we have to wait until Saturday to see if they'll arrive.  One final annoyance for 2020.   I would have expected no less.

Thought about In-N-Out - car line was over a block long at TWO-FIFTEEN.  Inside, where there's usually no one, a line to the door at TWO-FIFTEEN.  Went to Gelson's - no parking places, people coming out with three CARTS full of food - I thought the idea was no parties, no get-togethers, stay at home - so what were these morons doing with three CARTS of jam-packed foods?  Needless to say, I came home and ordered from the California Chicken Cafe.  Should be here any moment.

I love that melody more than the more widely known version.  The first time I'd heard it was when the Barra MacNeils performed it in a concert that was shown on PBS:

Thought about In-N-Out - car line was over a block long at TWO-FIFTEEN.  Inside, where there's usually no one, a line to the door at TWO-FIFTEEN.  Went to Gelson's - no parking places, people coming out with three CARTS full of food - I thought the idea was no parties, no get-togethers, stay at home - so what were these morons doing with three CARTS of jam-packed foods?  Needless to say, I came home and ordered from the California Chicken Cafe.  Should be here any moment.

And this idiot made the news "Los Angeles Residents Attempt to Stop Christian Singer Sean Feucht From Hosting Maskless Concerts" in Skid Row and Echo Park.  Pastors and other church leaders in the area have asked him to stay away.

Yes, the vaccination roll-out needs to be better organized. But what can you expect from a White House that was disorderly to begin with and has now lost and is in the process of dismantling? I truly hope we learn from this pandemic and start taking public health more seriously.

In true end of 2020 style, I just went off on someone who did not know when to shut the old voice box. I mean, I don't understand people at ALL.  We're coming off what is the worst year in a lot of people's lives, including, in certain ways, mine, and yet people can't back off and just give others a  bit of rest, a bit of respite.  I couldn't believe it and I tried to bite my tongue but in the end I unleashed - not the worst I could have done - but just a little loud reality injection I felt was necessary.

Except it was handed over to the states to deal with, unlike the smallpox vaccination which I believe was a national plan.  Yes, proving your comment regarding the disorderly WH.   The mess in Florida.  I wonder if all those people waiting overnight for their vaccination will vote for the current governor next time.

Listening to an opera by Wilhelm Kienzle - Der Evangelimann.  I thought it might be like the Entartete stuff, but no, it's VERY old-fashioned in its musical style.  Some pretty stuff, some rousing choral stuff, but not my favorite - and two-and-a-half hours.

OMG, does everyone have their black-eyed peas??  :)

I didn't know about this till two years ago. It's a Southern, or maybe a New Orleans, tradition that there be some black-eyed peas at every gathering on New Year's Eve, because no one must enter a new year hungry. Or something like that. Anyway, we got 'em. And we shan't enter it hungry.

The package situation is crazy.

I have Amazon items that up until this afternoon said they'd be delivered today, that are now showing as arriving 2 weeks from now.

Another item that this afternoon was showing as to be delivered two weeks from now suddenly shows as being delivered today.

It's all insane, DR singdaw.

I really thought the USPS madness would wind itself down by Christmas. Apparently it was just the luck of the draw that everything we were expecting actually got here by then, including my couple of eBay media mail packages that had been in limbo for a couple of weeks.

But it seems like it's not gotten any better at all in the past week. I'm now seeing the same nonsense you describe, and I already have two newer packages with tracking that makes no sense whatever.

Hmm. I don't know, but I also have a can of collard greens I could open up...

Sylvia's brand, both of these. Sylvia's is the great soul food restaurant in Harlem that I've heard people rave about for years.

The car wash I usually use closed due to Covid, but reopened last September with a new owner and new prices. No longer a bargain. But they now offer an express wash for half price. Just the outside of your car, because many people don't want someone inside their car. I'll use that! My car doesn't get very dirty inside and I can do this between full-service washes.

I have a question for all DRs:

(I got behind on the Notes and posts this week, so BK may have already asked this)

What did you start doing this year as a result of Covid that you wish to keep doing even post-Covid?

I started a “memory planner,” a mashup of a weekly calendar/diary/scrapbook and had no idea how essential would become in trying to distinguish one day from the next.  It’s also helped me use up a lot of the paper crafting materials I’ve accumulated over the past 8 years.

My 2021 book is all set up and ready to go!

For many people the fireworks are a very big deal, after almost a year of having lost so many of the things they enjoy. I don't object to professional fireworks as long as there are no crowds, just streaming. Amateurs are another story.

Yes, definitely.  Windows were cracked as well.  I do have friends that I have been hanging out with since May and I admit to whoever asks that we don't wear masks in each others presence.  Vet the people who you'll be with, that's my belief.

Then I went to Taco Bell... which was fine.   Opened the champagne and watched some TV.  Then headed out into the chilly evening to sit by the lagoon and have a cigar and contemplate what the HELL happened this year.

Did you figure it out. ;)

No, it's still a mystery.  I was actually thinking what happened in late June/July/August when it should have been summer vacation.  I'm like... what did I do to fill those days???   So crazy.

After playing cards at my mom's (the three of us each won a game!), I did a little shopping at Fred Meyer, came home and ate dinner (don't judge me...I made myself a new creation: a home-assembled egg salad burrito ;) ) and now I'm here and need to ketchup on all the posts! ;D

George, you get three points for experimenting. I hope you liked it!

I've totally made an egg salad burrito!!!  Maybe with bacon and cheese as well!!   DEEE-lish!
