Well, you've read the notes, the notes could be hummed to the tune of the final movement of Shostakovich's eleventh symphony, and now it is time for you to post until the humming cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CORDATE!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
That is all.
-
:)
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept really well last night, and I am quite happy about that.
-
Today would have been my father's 100th birthday. I love him and miss him enormously, but I still want to dig up his body and kick his ass for the mess he caused with that Ohio property.
-
I'm doing very little today. Early tomorrow morning I have my last pre-radiation procedure, so I can eat nothing after 3:00 today except for clear liquids.
-
DR Jrand 71, I would swear I purchased a copy of A SHORT HISTORY OF A SMALL PLACE several yeats ago when you first mentioned it, and I have no idea where it is.
-
Good morning.
-
:)
-
What need for other decoration is there?
-
Vibes that MR BK gets his screeners.....that's terrible!
-
Today is the appraising of the items inside my uncle's house. I do not know how long it will take or even what happens during such an enterprise. But when I come back, all shall be revealed.
And today is the day that the renters are supposed to be out of THAT house.....they have been moving out for awhile and are meeting my brother to give him the keys.
They have also let us know that they have a security deposit from years ago that is exactly the amount of rent they owe. I have a signed lease that says the deposit is about $400 less than that....
-
I find this whole process so interesting, DR JRand71. Thanks for sharing the journey with us.
-
What fresh hell is this?
-
What fresh hell is this?
Post-pandemic, pre-resurrected pandemic, the prices HAVE gone up.
-
I find it hard to believe that my last time here was days ago. What was I doing and where was I at and why don't I remember?
Ah, well.
-
Maybe I was behind the "at".
-
Today, I have an appointment for lab work at the VA.
It's a drive of about 30 minutes, but it's in Aiken SC, and I like Aiken SC. There are shops there with food I don't find here in Johnston SC. There is a "Fresh Market", which I love. It is a chain similar to Trader Joe's, and it has wonderful foods, a deli, a butcher, a bakery and wines and beers and various, sundry (and possibly sundried) thingies, and a great cheese selection.
And then there is Sam's Club. Sam's is relatively new to me in that I only joined back in September. Have been back three times, and love, love, love shopping there.
-
After all, I live in Johnston SC. We are choice-deprived, so to speak.
-
For DR slapshot:
-
Good morning, all.
-
Similar thing happened to me this morning that happened to DR Ginny:
I sat down at the laptop, which I had closed last night like I nearly always do, and when I opened it I found myself right here in HHW Land, and still logged in. I figured that as soon as I refreshed the screen, it would all change and I'd be gone. But nooooooo. I was, and am, still here.
And yet -- AND YET -- a little while ago I had opened the iPad and caught up on last night's posts, read the new notes, read the first few posts of this morning, and I can swear that NO ONE was showing as logged on at the time.
[Cue: theremin music]
-
For DR slapshot:
;D
-
Now THERE'S an idea:
An album of Christmas music played on the theremin.
-
Oh. I guess someone already thought of that.

-
There really isn't anything new under the sun.
-
So apparently there's been a supply-chain cream cheese shortage, at least in some areas. I wasn't up on the news and hadn't heard about it till a couple of days ago. Naturally, hearing that immediately made me want some cream cheese, so when I was out shopping yesterday I checked two supermarkets and only one had a couple dozen boxes left. Most of what's out there right now is the pricier spreadable variety. I very judiciously picked up two (2) out of their few dozen boxes, and we already have some spreadable, so we're all set. That's actually more than we normally keep around.
But here's the crazy thing I just learned: Someone was buying a bunch and freezing it. That sounds good until you google the viability of freezing cream cheese, and you find that it's "okay" to do so for only 2-3 months, and then the texture is going to be completely different when thawed. The curds will separate from the water and at that point it's still safe to use but it's really only good for baking. So the hell with that. But here's the real kicker. The two boxes I bought yesterday have use-by dates of June 2022. That's seven months in the fridge, so why would anyone freeze it?
There's no need to answer that. :)
-
Nancy Drew and the Frozen Cream Cheese Caper.
-
TWO!!

I have known about the crazy cream cheese shortage in the markets and am glad I don't need any.
-
Are the people hoarding cream cheese the same ones that are hoarding toilet paper, I wonder?
-
Good morning, all.

None

Tuesday morning greetings! They basement guy has already been here, found the reason for the water, and fixed it. Now maybe I can do a little more hall decking without having to wade through a big puddle to get to where we store the Christmas decorations.
-
Today would have been my father's 100th birthday. I love him and miss him enormously, but I still want to dig up his body and kick his ass for the mess he caused with that Ohio property.
That's quite the anniversary. But it's only three and a half years till I'll be saying the same.
Vibes, as always, re that damned property...
-
Are the people hoarding cream cheese the same ones that are hoarding toilet paper, I wonder?
Most likely.
The actual shortage was in the industrial sector where they make it for the restaurants, delis, bakeries, etc., and it was started by a cyber-hack against one of the suppliers. Of course they're all blaming the trucking situation, too. I think the shortage in the stores is only due to people reading about it and doing their knee-jerk hoarding.
It really shouldn't last long, and I know I won't be of their number.
Just don't come near my stash of TP and PT... :)

Thank goodness he was easily able to fix the problem. Vibes it doesn't happen again.

Thanks, DR Jane. Turns out it was actually a pipe that had dislodged from the dehumidifier on our furnace. We need to have nephew Scott, our HVAC guy, come for our winter check-up anyway, so we’ll alert him about trying to prevent a recurrence.
Meanwhile, I’ve brought up another basketful of Christmas decor.
-
I have already learned three new mambo steps this morning.
-
A nap is definitely in store.
-
I cannot eat anything after an hour from now, and I have no idea what I should eat before my time is up.
-
Due to colds/possible covid, we missed a stop with friends. We said we would catch them as we headed back north.
-
Due to pur possible exposure to colds/covid we cancelled.
-
Instead we spent the night in a hotel in Santa Maria.
-
The good news is we seem to be ok. It's hard to tell with the rain and damp weather bothering our allergies.

Madonna Inn?
I've never stayed there, but I always enjoyed seeing it from the freeway at night.

That's a damned good question. How to decide...
-
Thank goodness our possible exposure was after our visits with Keith's almost 94 year old uncle and almost 87 year old aunt

No, we stopped about 45 minutes before the Inn. Darn, now we wish we had driven the extra distance.
-
We spent a fun night at The Madonna Inn on our honeymoon 😊
-
We just passed The Madonna Inn
-
I'm up, I'm up - about six hours of sleep. Waiting for the visitor but he may not get here before I have to leave.
-
Yay, we have passed through the rain. 😊
-
Don't ask me why, but in my memory, the Madonna Inn was always in Santa Maria. I just checked, and I see that it's really just north of San Luis Obispo. That's quite a dislocation for the likes of me. Bizarre.

Great news about the water being fixed, Ginny!

I didn't "need" any cream cheese either, but it didn't stop me from getting any. ;)
-
Of course, the best-by date was probably sometime during this past summer, but they're sealed and will still stay good for quite a bit longer.
-
The last time I bought the 50-pack, I had them for more than a year past and those were still good, too.
-
Bruce how much do you pay for a Thrifty ice cream cone?
-
Keith just paid $1.99 for a single scoop.
-
What were they, 5 cents, then 10 when we were young. The memory of 10 cents was for the double scoop Keith would buy. Today he just got a single scoop.

I'm going through PMDT (Package Mis-Delivery Trauma).
I've been following a FedEx shipment that's supposedly been on the truck for delivery today. (Their estimated delivery date had actually been yesterday.) So finally their site said it had been delivered to my front door, no signature required, two hours ago. Nope. Not so. I've been here and I knew no FedEx truck had come to the house. I looked all around, went down to the road and checked the mailbox just in case, then drove around to the house with the same address on another road where we frequently get each other's stuff. Nothing. Came back and tried FedEx's "chat", disputing their delivery notice, whereupon "chat" informs me that this package was to be handed off to the USPS and they're the ones delivering. So I try USPS tracking, and they have no info "yet" on this tracking number.
I think the technical term for this is: dead in the water.

I love this song.

Are you certain that is a "he" and not a tranny? That little curl on the side of the head and the plucked eyebrows are awfully precious.

Well, I've just booked an Access-a-Ride to get me home from Lenox Hill Hospital tomorrow. Pray for me.

Good afternoon!
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
The man doing the appraisal said he would have a document for us in a "couple of days".....at first he said it would be about an hour. He was there for over two hours.... He just kept saying....'you have a lot of stuff....." and "interesting.....'
So we shall see what we shall see.
-
Christmas Wrath!
It's about five days early for it - but I am sure it's evident in some places.
-
Now I want to buy some cream cheese even though I never have....I HAVE TO HAVE SOME.....NOW!
-
I am horrified by the delivery story that DR CHAS SMITH has reported.....
It's got to be SOMEWHERE......
-

This happens on our mail route all the time. Yes, it was delivered TO THE WRONG ADDRESS!!!

YES!!! The nice lady next door just brought it to us. It was delivered to her -- and not to her front door, but to her mailbox!
-
Jane, I've never bought just a cone at Thrifty's - always a pint or quart.
-
Back from a fun lunch with Kay Cole.
-
Visitor appointment has been rescheduled to tomorrow.
-
Last time I was in a Thrifty's was...oh lordy...mid-late 1980s? And I have no recollection of what they charged per scoop then. But I can tell you it was "nothing". And I do mean nothing. Meaning, absolutely nothing that you'd even think about, or take note of.
-
$1.99 PER SCOOP???

It doesn't matter what he/she/they is/are. The person really knows how to play the Theramin.
-
...not that I'd want to listen to a whole album of that music, though. ::)
-
But once in a great while can be enjoyable. ;D
-
Sitting out on a patio and enjoying a balmy evening. Had a cocktail and a patty melt.
-
Not necessarily in that order? ;D
-
Tomorrow I'm working a 12-hour shift and then have just enough time (I hope) to catch an Uber to choir rehearsal.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Gratuitous post No, 100!

More or less.

I found something that said it went up to 35 cents in 1991.
-
It was 50 cents in '93.
-
And $1.50 in 1997.
-
$1.99 PER SCOOP???
He did enjoy it.
-
A single scoop of Baskin Robbins is $2.79.
-
We had q delicious dinner overlooking the ocean :)
-
There is a Ghirardelli shop near hotel. Today I purchased a few mini candies from there and a fun keychain.
-
Tomorrow I may return for a single scoop of ice cream. The cost of that is $6.75.
-
Had a scoop of pistachio ice cream and a scoop of an amazing cucumber sorbet after dinner.
-
With that in mind, I'm starting to watch Pig. Nicholas Cage is really good.
-
Pig is not the movie I thought it was going to be. And it's quite wonderful.
-

Watching Nicholas Cage make a three-mushroom tart.

It sounds good.
-
I hope TCB is doing better.
I keep watching for him to post.
-
Let's move on ...
-
Five!
-
Good night, all.
-
Wow...not to get political, but THIS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o84ng_osspA) video from Canadian commenter Christo Aivalis (https://www.youtube.com/c/ChristoAivalisPolitics/featured) plays a clip from Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D) who, as far as I know, is the first person to say out loud that, according to the texts that have recently been revealed, the insurrectionists (Trump and his cronies) committed treason and that the death penalty should be in play. :o
-
Finished with my viewing and writing notes now.
-
I like watching the Christo Aivalis videos.
-
They're usually short, under 5 minutes, and really to the point.
-
And he has a different perspective, being from Canada.
-
And his opinions are very much on the liberal side of things.
-
So, today at work, a co-worker and I did our end-of-fiscal-year roll-over!
-
It's easy to do, and it took less than an hour, but it always results in some mistakes.
-
We can't really find them, we just have to fix them as we come across them.
-
Fortunately, they're usually easy to fix.
-
Yesterday, I had to suppress a report that imports invoice information from several of our vendors to whom we send our orders electronically.
-
Today after the roll-over, I forgot to restart that process.
-
SPOO!! :o
-
Fortunately, it's not a problem.
-
As soon as I come in in the morning, I can start it again and it'll pick up from where it left off.
-
Isn't that all just fascinatin'?? ;D
-
We really need our TCB back here.
-
Pronto.
-
Like now.
-
Sooner than later.
-
Shortly.
-
We really need our TCB back here.
Definitely!
