Well, you've read the notes, the notes had 70, Girls, 70, and now it is time for you to post until the 70, Cows, 70 come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VALOROUS!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Glad that BK & Company got through Opening Night. May things only continue onward and upward from here.
-
~~~MULTIPLE MODERN MAJOR MIRACLE VIBES~~~ for the likes of BK!!!!!!!!
-
Good morning, all!
-
It’s Veterans Day. Thanks to all who served.
-
It’s also Here We Are Day!
TOD:
In Greece, they have oregano-seasoned Lay’s. They are perfection.
-
It's a HHW mini-reunion!!! So happy for you all.
-
I would love some oregano-seasoned Lay's!!!!!!!
-
Very long night of sleep. I don't know why.
It seemed long. I dreamed many dreams, none of which will come true, but that's okay.
It's early enough to go out for breakfast, but I don't have the motivation to do so. A cup of coffee seems to be doing all I need.
-
Good morning, all!
-
It's too warm in this apartment, and it took me forever to get to sleep. I should have turned on the AC.
-
The mini HHW reunion will be smaller: DR WFO is out with pneumonia, and I don't know if DR vixmom has another escort. Sadly, my health has taken a bad turn and I mist stay home. I'm really sorry to miss DR JohnG, his friend Carol, and vixmom.
-
I am on my way to meet John and Carol and my new escort
-
I am very sorry Elmore @nd WFO will not be with us
Hugs, Larry. We will miss you.
DR George, your post and DR Jrand73's post about running into friends reminded me that in September 2001, while I was sequestered in London after 911, I spent my birthday seeing a movie and buying myself birthday gifts. While I was browsing at Chappell Music on Bond Street, I ran into my friend Judy Malloy, who sang on the first Lost in Boston. I met her through her husband, another Drama Book Shop friend. When they divorced, they both left Manhattan, and I hadn't seen Judy since 1998 or so. It was a complete surprise to be shopping in London and running into her.
I will spend the day working on Once Upon a Mattress and listening to music. I am not leaving the apartment.
-
I also need to pulla a pile of old bills and personal matters for the shredder. I love it!
-
I am so happy that 70 Girls 701 had a great opening night. I hope each future performance is better than the one before it.
-
I love it!
But your kitties do not. :)
-
Good morning, all.
-
Great pictures in the notes, and I’m glad to hear it was a great opening - even while sound issues need to be fixed.
It’s a universal curse, though. I think sound or mic issues have affected, to some extent, every recent regional play and musical I’ve seen.
-
Feel better vibes for DR Elmore!
The rest o’ youse, have a great meetup and theatrical experience today!
-
I've tied up the apartment, and while I worked I listened to the OBC recording of 70 Girls 70. which I haven't ;osteed to in several years. Mildred Natwick still breaks my heart with "The Elephant Song" and "Say Yes." It's such a wonderful score.
The first time I answered the Drama Book Shop phone and the caller said she was Mildred Natwick, I said "Mr Billings! Mr Billings, where's Patsy?" And she invited me to tea.
-
Great news about the opening.
Matinee vibes for MR BK & Co.
The photos were fabulous!
-
Glad to hear the DR GEORGE's opening was also a success.
It sounds like both theeders had a B I G audience.
Feel better vibes for DR ELMORE.
Of course we will need photographic evidence of the mini HHW reunion.
Modern major miracle vibes for MR BK.
-
DR RON PULLIAM yes, I had a dance/gymnastic studio for about five years......it was fun....and I had some good students.
Mostly I taught beginning disciplines and let the kids move on when I had given them a good start.
-
Now I'm listening to Windy City, a West End flop with a wonderful score. I knew Dick Vosburgh, who wrote its book and lyrics and A Day in Hollywood Night in the Ukraine. He wasn't a bad lyricist, but I find some of them too raunchy and smarmy. He was responsible for all the lies from the Announcer for the BBC broadcast of my Cole Porter reconstruction of Jubilee, and I never forgave him or Ian Marshall Fisher, the producer, for fucling me over. Footlights sells a bootleg of that broadcast, so the lies get passed around too much for my taste.
Ah, context! I was imagining you taught PE on high school or somewhere.
-
Matinee vibes for MR BK & Co.
Manatee vibes, also.
-
Just in case.
-
Incredible how shows just come together when all can seem lost just days before opening night. Congrats to the 70 Girls cast and crew who look like fun folks.
-
Bruce, I'm pleased to read you had a full house, and overall opening night went well.
-
From DR George:
I then went and told the attendant and he came out and sprayed my car with some liquid that he said would make the gas noncombustible.
That is a big relief.
-
I was waiting to read the part where you didn't have to pay for the overflow.
What is it, a holiday or something?
Thank you for your service, DR Ron Pulliam and any other DRs who have served our country.
Nice Wordle DR Kevin.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
So glad opening night went as well as it did. And an almost-full house!
Congrats to bk, cast, and crew!
-
The HHW gathering photo is one of the very best ever!
Vixmom, red is a very good color for you.
Carol was there, too, just chose not to be in the photo?
-
So glad Ben was able to attend, but I regret that WFO and Elmore could not.
-
Will we hear about Here We Are? Or are you all sworn to silence?
-
Last night I remembered that I have a little personal heater. I rarely use it, as I find it somewhat useless. But some heat is better than no heat. I managed to sleep well. I’d put on my warmest jammies and thick socks and put a couple more blankets on my bed.
-
I stretch every morning. The extra layers of clothing make stretching interesting. It’s warmed up, though.
-
The new heater arrived and I tried it out. It works! Tonight I’ll find out if it does as good a job as it’s predecessor.
One could also simply add oregano to regular potato chips oneself.
In honor of Veteran’s Day, I made a small donation to VoteVets, an organization that strikes me as very pragmatic and effective.
-
One time after I’d lived in NY a couple years, I was walking in the east village and a girl is walking towards me and our eyes meet and our jaws dropped. She had lived in the apartment below me in Athens, GA during college. Boy, you couldn’t erase the smile off my face for the next day or so, it was such a fun little unexpected reunion.
-
If I’m in the mode where I’m eating chips, I do like Potato Stix.
-
Jane, I don’t expect my vision to improve more than it has from Thursday’s procedure. I wasn’t really sure I’d see much change. I’m pleased that it made a difference.
Another nice surprise meet.
My “running into” story isn’t as fun as all of yours, but it was a surprise. Many years ago a friend and I wanted a break from work and drove up to Yosemite. Here we were, hiking, an 8-hour drive from LA, when who do I run into? A coworker whose office was only 20 feet from my own! And I wanted a break from work!
-
The headache has gone, but there are still some new floaters. Not as many, though.
Jeanne, to answer your question from yesterday: I went to the University of Kentucky
-
First impressions of Here We Are:
The Sondheim Game is in full play. When a character criticizes the rest of the cast in song, it comes off as Henrick in A Weekend in the Country. Echoes of Putting It Together, A Little Priest, songs from Company, Follies and Bounce/Road Show, all in his voice. It’s not a derivative score, but there are welcome echoes of other works.
-
The lyrics may not be his best, but they are often fun, verbally dexterous, playful. Second tier Sondheim is still better than most people’s best.
-
Excellent cast, fun staging, top production values.
-
The libretto is better than expected. The characters are fairly loathsome, but that makes them funnier. Most everyone is guilty of hypocrisy, superficiality, worthlessness, yet even in that, there are moments of truth and fleeting emotion underneath their paper-thin facades.
-
Of course, it helps to have people like David Hyde Pierce and Denis O’Hare on hand. Pierce has a great scene with Rachael Bay Jones and her fuzzy slippers that goes back and forth between laughs and insight. Would have liked to have seen Sondheim musicalize it.
-
Darn those floaters. I hope they also go away.
Thanks. I have to expect some fallout from all those nasty laser beams. :)
I haven't dealt with the laser beams. I have a couple of small floaters I rarely notice any more.
-
There’s also a scene where the music dies that addresses Sondheim’s death indirectly. I liked it.
-
Both Sondheim and Ives deal with Bunuel’s original films without being slavish to them.
-
I liked Ades’s opera version of Exterminating Angel. But I appreciated what Ives did with it in under an hour. That’s the second act. There isn’t a lot of Sondheim in that act, but there are a couple of effective songs.
-
It’s interesting that Edith Wharton’s unfinished The Buccaneers is now a big new series. Here We Are is also unfinished, but it’s fascinating if imperfect.
-
Have I blathered enough?
-
Bottom line: Very glad I went.
-
Good :)
I was glad I went because I got to see DRs Vixmom and Ben, too, of course.
One last thought on the score. It also reminds me a tiny bit of The Enclave, which had characters of similar wealth, though Arthur Laurents was far more humorless.
-
Well, tonight's performance of Theater Artists Olympia's production of An Improbable Peck of Plays V went quite well!
-
I think we had around 30 people again, which was really nice.
-
If I remember correctly, I'd heard that only 20 or so were presold, so having around 30 was a nice surprise!
-
I think only 11 are presold for tomorrow, so we'll see what a Sunday matinee will actually bring in.
-
Back from a pretty good performance - a little sloppy but I spoke to the folks it involved afterwards. Didn't know anyone in attendance - but they've been doing poorly on the first weekend Saturday night, averaging about twenty people. We had over fifty and they were a good audience.
-
Tomorrow, we have a matinee, then we're done for the weekend.
-
Next weekend, we have performances from Thursday through Sunday.
-
I don't know why they chose to only play two weekends, but it's what was decided.
