Well, you've read the notes, the notes won't ever have that recipe again, and now it is time for you to post until the rainy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OROTUND!
-
Those who've read Kritzer World will know what that means.

Good morning, friends.

Just enough time to shower, then off the doctor's office.

~~~VIBES~~~ to all and sundried!!!!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I slept pretty well. The temperature went down to 10 or 12 degrees overnight, but we’re back up to 15 now, so hey.
-
I have some ugly bills to see to today, and some emails and other stuff that must also be seen to. The driveway was made just passable last night, and the ‘mates got out fine this morning, and it is what it is until some kind of a thaw happens, and that isn’t even on the horizon at this point.
-
I loved the tale of vixmom’s soup, and the picture looks wonderful. I could eat a bowl of it right now. I’ll remember that and will see about making one of those myself sometime.
-
Good morning
The day is already getting away from me
So I guess I’ll Wordle and go
This has been a busy morning. My Social Security landed, so I've been paying a number of bills.
-
I did not sleep well last night. Stella seemed happy curling up beside me, but Annabelle and Thatch were much happier letting me know that I was sleeping in their bed and that I had better play by their rules. This bodes no good for the remainder of the winter months.
-
Notes gobbled. Feasted.
-
Last night I decided to give Broadway HD on Amazon Prime a try. I watched the first act of Noel Coward's Private Lives from the Chichester Festival with Toby Stephens, son of Maggie Smith, and Anna Chancellor, who played Caroline Bingley in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice. I found them way too artificial and brittle. I don't think I'll watch the rest of it.
-
Hey, we’re up to about 20 degrees.
Today’s high will be around 28.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Vixmom, that was a fun West Coast swing routine. West Coast swing is such an odd animal. If it were the only dance out there, I could spend some more time with it. It really demands all of your time.
-
But if I did that, I wouldn’t have time for tango or waltz or hustle or East Coast swing.
-
I need to get moving. It’s food pantry day.
-
Good morrow, ye gentle folk!
-
I slept so deliciously well that I am nearly embarrassed to mention it!
-
At the very start of BK's notes, I had a sudden pang of longing for the days of new Jimmy Webb songs. Lord, the man is a talent!
-
Last night, I treated myself to a new series: "True Detective, Night Country" starring Jodie Foster.
It promises to be quite something. I enjoyed the first episode a lot, although I have some reservations about where it might go. But, until it actually gets there, I'm going to keep watching.
-
After "True Detective: Night Country", I decided to give "Monsieur Spade" a shot (AMC+).
I like Clive Owen, but there were several things that put me off. First, there is way too much reading needed by the viewer just to get the story started. Short sentences stating and re-stating things (with minor adjustments) intended, I think, to amuse the viewer. Je ne suis pas amusé!
Second, there seem to be about 15 or 20 "Executive Producers" you have to get through before the rest of the credits play out. There are several times more producers than cast members.
And then the story starts off slowly. Sam is retired in France, has charge of a little girl and is supposed to deliver her to her father. No one wishes to cooperate.
I was in no mood....
-
I skipped Bible Study last night. Didn't have the oomph needed to move from my chair. I feel much better today, but now I worry that I may have missed some essential something about Satan and demons that tonight's final class will not help me recover.
Sigh.
-
When I began, there was me and two guests.
I have apparently scared off or chased away one guest.
-
Ah, me!
-
I need coffee.
It is 24 degrees outside right now. Our projected high is 42.
Sunny skies prevail.
-
We're practically going to maybe have a possible heat wave.
A non-tropical, arctic-infused heat wave.
If the temperature's not rising
It will be most surprising if
I empty my trash can!
Last night I decided to give Broadway HD on Amazon Prime a try. I watched the first act of Noel Coward's Private Lives from the Chichester Festival with Toby Stephens, son of Maggie Smith, and Anna Chancellor, who played Caroline Bingley in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice. I found them way too artificial and brittle. I don't think I'll watch the rest of it.
Maggie Smith and Robert Stephens (Toby's parents) did this play in London in 1972-73, I spent Thanksgiving 1973 in London, but arrived a day or two after the show had closed. I was devastated. "The Mousetrap" was sold out. I had to content myself by going to the Dominion Theater to see that new compilation film known as "That's Entertainment"!
Coward's play is on the brittle side, I think, and requires some elegant playing to resonate with an audience. Smith and Stephens likely did that with ease. Smith later toured with it in the US in 1974, but with a different actor as she and Stephens had divorced.
-
Larry, check this (sadly poor) video out:
It's not ideal, but the casting of that production was swell-egant!
Just enough time to shower, then off the doctor's office.
I'd be curious (maybe it's been discussed here before) how you or BK or anyone here feel or did feel about what seemed to be a lot of narration in the movie "Barbie."
-
It felt in "Barbie" like a lot of telling rather than showing, but seems to suggest if the movie is working for its (large) audience, audiences don't mind the telling rather than showing all that much.
-
Of course, in "Barbie" the narration is by Helen Mirren, so that may be a factor.
-
But it seemed to suggest that. telling but not showing is something that doesn't work - unless it's done well enough that it works.
-
Ron is three posts away from a millstone!
Good links yesterday....I liked the improv dance.....yes I like West Coast Swing - back when I could dance without resting between steps.....
And DR VIXMOM's soup sounds wonderful.....
The first paragraph of the notes was a L O N G one.
My sister Paula is coming for a short visit in a bit.
I have made some hot dogs - in case she has time to eat. Her husband wants to use the car instead of his pick up truck - so she can't stay long.
Went to the store this morning and got what is needed since SN*W is predicted on Thursday night and Friday and maybe even Saturday.
High winds.....temp is 12 degrees with a high of 25 degrees expected - everybody into the pool!
Where is it? HBO, I believe? I'm hearing a wide range of opinions on it, some negative but enough positive - or at least hopeful - and it sounds like it's right up my alley. I'll have to ketchup on that first episode and give it a fair shake (not stir).
Ugly bills: PAID. Ugh.
Yesterday this woman on Facebook kept insisting there was a major earthquake in 1974 calling as if the Sylmar and the San Fernando quakes were separate and in separate years. Except for the name of the 1974 earthquake her information was exactly the same as the Northridge quake in 1994.
My response:
The Sylmar earthquake aka the San Fernando was on Feb 9, 1971. I don't know of a major earthquake in 1974, only the Northridge one on January 17, 1994.
Her response:
Tomorrow is the anniversary of the Northridge Quake but posts are calling the San Fernando Quake and the Sylmar Quake the same quake. I am going to post a video of the Northridge Quake 1-17-74 4:30 am 6.7 quake.
FINALLY, someone got through to her this morning and she stands corrected ::)
-
I really think if there had been a major earthquake in 1974 that Keith & I would remember it.
DR JANE I sent you safe vibes for the visit to your neighbor's house.
My question for ASK BK DAY:
Is there a script you considered writing that never went beyond the THOUGHT phase?
-
And now it's 22 degrees.....the windshields are clear of ice and frost.....bring on summer.....REALLY....bring on summer.
I am so excited for DR GEORGE for his Amazon purchases.....I may buy the SWEENEY TODD because I love both the score AND Josh Groban.
I have a few of his CDs and he is amazing.
DR CHAS SMITH I have a few ugly bills coming up next month - including car insurance and license plate renewals and life insurance.....UGH-ly.
I also didn't mind the narration in BARBIE.....my favorite part was the songs of the KENS.....and poor Allen.....but that's just me.
And of course....Weird Barbie.
I haven't seen MAESTRO yet......but I am intrigued.
-
Congratulations, Ron, on your millstone!
-
DR Vixmom when do you plan to leave for Florida? Are you waiting until after the baby arrives or do you plan to head out once you know the Vixter is in labor?
We're arriving there on the 27th and leave on Feb 10th
The Vixter has been given strict instructions to deliver one grandson during that time period.
-
It's a modest number, as befits my shy and retiring persona!
-
How can the vixter be expecting a baby? She’s what, just about seventeen now?
Beats me, I'm pretty sure the just started kindergarten the other day
Congratulations, Ron, on your millstone!
Thankie, Freddie!
Thanks, everyone! Just heard that mom made it through the surgery just fine and is now in recovery, awaiting assignment to a room.
They are planning to start physical therapy this afternoon (!) and will determine if she can go home Thursday or Friday, which was expected.
-
Romeo Cascarino, whom BK told us about the other day, is the real deal. What fresh, wonderful music! Incredible that he was self-taught.
-
HAPPIEST OF ANNIVERSARY WISHES to DR Ginny and DH Richard!!!!
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR Ron Pulliam on his lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!
-
Good afternoon.
-
How can the vixter be expecting a baby? She’s what, just about seventeen now?
I'm pretty sure she's 14.
-
I'm surprised they didn't make her walk out of the operating room, Singdaw.
I'm glad she did well.
-
I'm trying to get back into my daily walking schedule. When we had our cold snap here after Christmas, I got lazy.
-
DR JANE I sent you safe vibes for the visit to your neighbor's house.
Thank you.
-
I'm pretty sure she's 14.
;D
-
Thanks, DR Laura.
-
Happy Anniversary to DR GINNY and DH RICHARD.....two of the finest HHW'ers that I have met in PERSON.
-
Such good news DR singdaw.....
-
BK - another "unknown" American composer in a lyrical mode is Robert Baksa, who just died in 2023 at age 86. His chamber music is charming.
-
Thanks, DR Jrand73.
Millstone vibes for DR RON PULLIAM.....one of the HHW'ers with a Hoosier connection.
Good Morning. It's Wednesday, the "day off". I've accomplished nothing except watching a few version of the first scene of She Loves Me which we'll be learning and staging this evening. The weather is clear today, and should be for a few days. The boys are sleeping, which is what they do best.
DR MATTHEW SHE LOVES ME is a favorite in these here parts - before you were born!
DR singdaw if you posted it I missed it.....how did the gum consultation turn out?
Millstone vibes for DR RON PULLIAM.....one of the HHW'ers with a Hoosier connection.
Hoosier little whozzit?
-
And while we're on the Hoosier pipeline...who recalls that Dan Quayle is related to Eugene C. Pulliam, former owner of a major mid-western publishing empire?
And although I am loath to make such a connection, I will say his connection is by marriage and that there is a long line of begats between my side of the Pulliams and Eugene's.
-
Interesting, and I had not made the connection. In fact, I rarely think of Quayle.
I have two reasons to remember him at all:
He defeated incumbent Democrat Birch Bayh for a U.S. Senate seat in 1980.
He added an "e" to "potato" on a schoolroom chalk board that basically labelled him as a "doofus" VP.
-
It’s 42 here today. 27 schools in San Antonio couldn’t open today because of frozen pipes or power outage.
A number of Portland schools had been closed to power outages. Frozen pipes are worst. I'm glad you didn't lose power.
Wednesday afternoon greetings! It is, indeed, our 43rd wedding anniversary and we gave each other negative Covid test results as tokens of our love.
-
Thank you to DRs Singdaw, JRand, Jane, and Freddie for the anniversary wishes!
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
Glad someone took the time to listen to Romeo Cascarino.
You are welcome.
And thanks for the vibes from those I didn't yet acknowledge; I've been a bit distracted today.
My own appointment went fine; the surgeon is happy with my healing. One more appointment in 2 weeks to remove the last suture.
DR Matthew, congratulations on She Loves Me. My favorite.
The final episode of the current season of Fargo has dropped, for anyone following that.
-
I noticed that two actors from Fargo were nominated for Golden Globes, when the whole series hadn't even finished airing yet.
-
Weird.
-
I'm willing to give Jodie Foster a try, but I'd rather wait to watch until the whole show is available.
-
The old-fashioned way of watching television (one episode per week) is no longer to my liking.
-
Because I'm hip.
-
And with it.
-
Not really.
:)
-
Is Joyce Kilmer (from today's Notes) related to Val Kilmer?
-
Val Kilmer IS Moses, don't you know.
-
Understandably.
-
Glad your recoveries are progressing, DR Ginny.
Thank you, DR Singdaw. I hope your mother’s goes smoothly, too!
-
Judge Kaplan to 45's lawyer: No, we are not going to read out loud a document not yet in evidence.
We're going to take a break right here to 3:30, and you're going to refresh your memory about how you get a document in.
-
Glad someone took the time to listen to Romeo Cascarino.
Thank you for the mention of him in the notes. That bassoon-piano piece is just serenely beautiful.
-
Also, some wag on the Internet wrote:
Why does this country insist on caucusing in Iowa, where a conman who couldn't read music famously convinced an entire town to purchase instruments for his non-existent boy band just by talking fast and citing an absurd number of trombones?
-
:))
-
Well, I've educated myself a little bit about Joyce Kilmer, and given that he died in 1918, I don't believe that he is the father of Val.
-
But I may be wrong.
-
I think tonight just may be a Mexican take-out night.
-
Mexican food seems to be a lot less expensive than Indian food, which I also love.
-
Happy anniversary, Ginny and Richard. Great anniversary present!
-
But I wonder how many Door Dash drivers want to deliver in sub-zero weather.
-
Well, I've educated myself a little bit about Joyce Kilmer, and given that he died in 1918, I don't believe that he is the father of Val.
But Val is still Moses.
-
Well, there's only one way to find out.
-
But Val is still Moses.
;D
-
Into the breach!
-
PAGE SEVEN!
-
I’m reading these posts backwards, you know.
-
Well, Moses knows.
-
And Moses still supposes his toes are roses.
-
Are all the different varieties of swing dancing performed to the same type of music, or is that segmented as well?
-
Though Moses supposes erroneously.
-
And Moses still supposes his toes are roses.
Erroneously.
-
I'm a dance neophyte.
-
Are all the different varieties of swing dancing performed to the same type of music, or is that segmented as well?
West Coast swing is slower, to bluesier music. To me, Bill Haley is about the fastest swing music there us. That’s single time, an East Coast variation.
Thanks, everyone! Just heard that mom made it through the surgery just fine and is now in recovery, awaiting assignment to a room.
They are planning to start physical therapy this afternoon (!) and will determine if she can go home Thursday or Friday, which was expected.
Good to hear, DR singdaw!
-
And a Very Happy Anniversary to Ginny and Richard! ;D
And a Very Happy Anniversary to Ginny and Richard! ;D
Thank you, DR George. I hope you and Shelly enjoy your dinner as much as we did!
-
Thanks for the information, DR John G. Interesting.
-
It's a good video, DR Jane, but I fear that those who need to hear its message are beyond persuasion.
-
Thanks for sharing the link.
-
Happy Anniversary, DR Ginny and DH!
-
:)
The maintenance guy is here trying to fix my thermostat. I had to put the boys in the bedroom and they are behaving well. I would like to get cleaned up and ready to go to rehearsal soon, feed the boys etc... the guy is taking his time.
Back from bells. Trying to arrange tickets to Greece in May.
Good luck getting to rehearsal on time, and that your fixed thermostat works correctly.
Yes, unfortunately.
Happy anniversary, Ginny and Richard. Great anniversary present!
Thank you, DR John G! We celebrated with a curbside dinner pickup at Olive Garden.
I'm glad you could have some sort of celebration.
We found the issue, things are looking up and there is still plenty of time to get to rehearsal! Will be nice to able to have a little heat when needed as I don't normailly keep it on at all.
-
Nice.
I took this photo from Facebook so I'm not sure everyone can see it.
"Icy sunset on the Oregon coast."
That's great that it all worked out.
We just watched the Lincoln Project video, "God Made a Dictator".
Very powerful!
Nice photo, DR Jane. Pretty unusual situation, I imagine.
I'm not sure how unusual it is. It can get pretty cold there.
Not really.
Get outta here!
What about HAPPY?
"Put on a Happy Face"?
-
"Happiness" from You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown?
-
Probably not "Happiness" from Passion.
Who decides these things?
-
My constant refrain.
-
I am wiped.
-
Good night, friends.
-
Keith loves the song. It makes him happy :)
-
'night
-
In the last episode, the cast sang Some Enchanted Evening with a Salvation Army Band in march style.
-
In this episode, Kaye Ballard’s husband is now played by another actor, Richard Deacon.
-
In the last episode of season one, Paul Lynde is the guest star. Very funny.
-
I am wiped.
Oh, Charmin!
-
I am starting Rope. I know I won’t finish it, but it’s fun so far.
-
I am going to finish Rope. Much better than I remember. What a fun experiment.
-
I picked up my friend at the airport, tonight.
-
She has just landed as I was leaving work ( we texted ach other)
-
In a rare act of luck she was done with collecting her luggage, customs and arrived at the passenger pickup spot exactly at the same time I pulled up to it.
-
No waiting for anyone
-
I should have bought a lottery ticket
-
I brought her to her hotel so she could check in and leave her luggage then we went to a little neighborhood place to talk and have dinner.
-
We chatted until she lost steam ( it had been a long day and her time is 5 hours ahead of mine) so I brought her back to her hotel and she flies out tomorrow for Charlotte
-
Now I am home and running ou5 of steam
-
See you in the morning
-
I am very pleased to hear Singdaw’s mom’s hip replacement went well
-
Also congratulations to Ginny and Richard on their anniversary
-
Covid free is a lovely gift!
-
Time for bed.
-
It’s been a long day.
-
But first …
-
Ten!
-
Good night, all.
-
Happy Ginnyversary!
-
We had over a foot of snow. Kids were home from school. We’re basically trapped, but it’s a good kind of trapped as long as power and heat are working.
-
Five!
That's a cool picture, Jane!
-
Snow from the roof of the garage slid off and compacted the snow already on the driveway leaving a giant mound of snow I had to dig through in case we do need to leave. Wind overnight expected, that’s why I worry about power. Snow-covered trees blowing over.
-
DR MATTHEW SHE LOVES ME is a favorite in these here parts - before you were born!
I also have been a fan of She Loves Me for many years, although not as many as Jrand. ;)
-
More snow coming tomorrow. Rain too. I dunno, man, not what I was promised when we moved here.
-
And while we're on the Hoosier pipeline...who recalls that Dan Quayle is related to Eugene C. Pulliam, former owner of a major mid-western publishing empire?
And although I am loath to make such a connection, I will say his connection is by marriage and that there is a long line of begats between my side of the Pulliams and Eugene's.
Interesting, and I had not made the connection. In fact, I rarely think of Quayle.
I have two reasons to remember him at all:
He defeated incumbent Democrat Birch Bayh for a U.S. Senate seat in 1980.
He added an "e" to "potato" on a schoolroom chalk board that basically labelled him as a "doofus" VP.
Oh, for the simpler days of actual republican embarrassments. ::)
-
It’s 42 here today. 27 schools in San Antonio couldn’t open today because of frozen pipes or power outage.
Yikes! :o
-
Wait...how do pipes freeze when it's only 42°??
-
I believe I read Quayle advised that other Hoosier toolbag, Pence, that he needed to certify the election, the law was clear. So we have Dan to thank for that, at least.
-
Wednesday afternoon greetings! It is, indeed, our 43rd wedding anniversary and we gave each other negative Covid test results as tokens of our love.
Those are wonderful gifts, Ginny! ;D
-
Wait...how do pipes freeze when it's only 42°??
Yeah that don’t make no sense.
Glad medical news is good for the Singdaw family.
-
Also, some wag on the Internet wrote:
Why does this country insist on caucusing in Iowa, where a conman who couldn't read music famously convinced an entire town to purchase instruments for his non-existent boy band just by talking fast and citing an absurd number of trombones?
:D
-
Well, I've educated myself a little bit about Joyce Kilmer, and given that he died in 1918, I don't believe that he is the father of Val.
But I may be wrong.
They still may be related.
Haha! Quaint days!
Are there actually “so many” songs about rainbows?
-
We just watched the Lincoln Project video, "God Made a Dictator".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOi2cYz5nXE
That's a real good one.
-
Rainbow Connection lost the Oscar to a song few remember from Norma Rae.
-
After it snows tomorrow, rain in the forecast for the next ten days. Now that’s what I was promised when I moved here.
-
How was Olive Garden, G?
-
And a Very Happy Anniversary to Ginny and Richard! ;D
Thank you, DR George. I hope you and Shelly enjoy your dinner as much as we did!
We did! She got the Chicken and Shrimp Carbonara, and I just had the Meatballs Parmigiana appetizer.
-
We shared the endless breadsticks with dipping sauces, which was a very good thing.
-
How was Olive Garden, G?
Just answered! Quite enjoyable. We both brought home leftovers.
"Celebration" by Kool & The Gang?
Yes! And their "September"!
-
In a rare act of luck she was done with collecting her luggage, customs and arrived at the passenger pickup spot exactly at the same time I pulled up to it.
Great timing!
-
We had over a foot of snow. Kids were home from school. We’re basically trapped, but it’s a good kind of trapped as long as power and heat are working.
Yes! Power and heat are good things to have when it's quite cold outside!
-
More snow coming tomorrow. Rain too. I dunno, man, not what I was promised when we moved here.
Yikes! Not to brag, but it's getting warmer down here.
-
I believe I read Quayle advised that other Hoosier toolbag, Pence, that he needed to certify the election, the law was clear. So we have Dan to thank for that, at least.
I think I had read that.
Whew!
Weather vibes for Rodzinski!
-
Wait...how do pipes freeze when it's only 42°??
* I think it gets below 32 degrees at night *
Put on a Happy Face would always be at the top of my list.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
All that AND page eleven.
All that heaven allows.
