Well, you've read the notes, the notes and I did a minuet that took a minute, and now it is time for you to post until the minueting cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TRIUMPHANT!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Love that Dino at the piano.
-
How could you not?
-
I ask you.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
.
-
Who decides these things?
-
Good morning, all!
-
I did sleep better than the night before, but I'm not sure how much better. I did wakle around 1:30 and take another Tizanidine, which helped.
-
I have no idea what I will do with my day. Tomorrow is laundry day, so I will put that together so I can go down first thing tomorrow and finish it.

Good morning, all.
-
Today is the calm before a four-day storm of rehearsals and auditions.
-
Always good to hear DR Jrand73’s audition tales.
-
Drowsy Chaperson vibes for DR CHAS SMITH.
-
Not raining yet, so I shall venture out into the shopping arena in a tick.
-
Glad to hear of the good audition news from DR Jrand73.

~~~CONTINUING RECUPERATION VIBES~~~ for DH Richard and DR Jane!
-
Looking forward to travel reports "from the field" from DR MichaelG and DR Rodzinski.
-
Yep - we DRs like to live vicariously.
-
Good morning, all.
-
The sun is out. I need to inspect the yard for damage.
-
I managed to sleep fitfully. The storms ended sometime after I fell asleep.
-
Good news, JRand, on the auditions. Vibes for ChasSmith’s auditions.
-
It is a nice Wednesday morning in Johnston SC (in the northwestern leg of the CSRA).
Slept well, but mating birds awakened me around 7 a.m. Tis the season.
There are trees in my yard and the birds seem to flock there during this season. Rather like the Geese who have two other larger ponds below mine, but find my yard and pond to be their favorite courting grounds.
I love nature, though, so it would be rude to complain about it.
-
I hope you all have a very pleasant day!
-
We don't want to be rude.
-
No siree, Bob.
Okay kids, it's show and tell time.
I am one of the very few people in these United States who has never seen a production of GREASE, never watched the movie version of GREASE, and to my knowledge I've never played any of the music from GREASE. However, I'm about to play auditions for (wait for it...) GREASE, so I looked to see what materials I have in order to get familiar with the music beforehand. I knew I had a published score with the binding hardly cracked, but I'd forgotten that a couple of years ago a director friend had unloaded some items from productions past that he no longer needed or wanted, and because of its age and uniqueness and the fact that I love handwritten scores, I couldn't resist taking this one.
So for the viewing pleasure of a few of you, here's an artifact from way back, an early Samuel French rental score. You can't tell just by looking at the picture, but its pages measure 12.5" wide by 15" tall. A standard music stand won't accommodate it without a sturdy piece of cardboard or something placed behind it for support.
-
The inside pages are printed pretty much like the what's in the old "brown books" and similar (I'm blanking on the name of the reproduction process of older Broadway scores), but the front and back cover and the old metal spiral binding are unique, in my experience.
And I'm endlessly fascinated with various styles and "hands" in manuscript, and I wonder if DR Elmore or anyone can identify who might have done this one. Dig those crazy headings! Isn't that pretty similar to the LITTLE ME score?
Click to enlargenate.
-
One more -- And btw I did go through and compare with the published score, and there's virtually nothing different - nothing additional, nothing lacking - from either score. Content-wise, notation-wise, they're identical, or nearly so.
Siblings Day!
Thanks for bringing it to our attention DR singdaw!
I am one of EIGHT so I have a lot of things to be celebrated.
-
And now.....this.
-
And it is perfect for a page turn.
-
Last night I was working with the guys in the Rehearsal Center on the dance audition.....when the director came in and said: "....is here to audition."
-
I first met said person when she was in the ensemble of a production of WSS and then we worked on a production of A Funny Thing Happened..... She played Philia.
And then I cast her as Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress....and she was fabulous as I knew she would be.
She married soon afterward and moved on from community theeder.
-
Her last child graduated from high school last May.....and she wanted to do something for herself.....and she came to auditions last night.
-
It was a joy to see her after 20 years.....and she will be playing Aint Eller in our show.
JOY JOY JOY.
-
Our pianist also played for my production of MATTRESS and her stepdaughter was also in the production.
AND she and her husband were in town to see the totality of the eclipse.
It was a joyful reunion as only a theeder reunion can be.
-
I love theeder friends.
-
ALMOST as much as siblings.
-
My "baby" sister will be 53 years old on Sunday, April 14.
-
It was a joy to see her after 20 years.....and she will be playing Aint Eller in our show.
JOY JOY JOY.
Such a lovely story DR Jrand. Enjoy working with her again.
-
She is very young :)
I agree. 53 is very young! :)
Awesome story about your Aunt Eller, DR Jrand!
-
DR Chas Smith, thanks so much for these gorgeous scores. I’ve never seen, heard, or performed Grease either, but love seeing these.
Looks like Emil Charlap's hand. He copied for Cy Coleman.
I began the new Charleston finale.
-
Good morning uh afternoon
-
Last night once I got back from WFO's house I started scanning some if the Vixters baby pictures to send to the kids in Florida
-
It's hard to tell the difference on so e of them between the Vixter and Vixson
-
Then after I was done with that I made a ham casserole with the left over Easter ham
-
By time the kitchen was cleaned and the casserole finished baking it was nigh on 11
-
But I ate a dish of casserole any way and then went to bed
-
I was having g such a lovely sleep that when the alarm.went off I shut it off and rolled over for another couple of winks
-
Which explains why I wasn't here before work
-
I saw Pirates of Penzance on Broadway with the original cast
-
It was spectacular!
-
Congratulations to JRand on the successful auditions
-
What a fun story about your reunion!
-
My phone will only allow me to see the Notes for April 6
-
So I have no idea what they said or what the TOD is.
-
I saw Grease on Broadway when I was 15
-
I wish I still had the Playbill so I could see who was in the cast
-
I'm up, I'm up - a bit over eight hours of sleep.
-
Was up at 11:45.
-
Already this is the kind of day where you want to just stick your head in the oven.
-
Looking at my e-mails, in the Kritzerland email (the one orders come from and where all the PayPal stuff happens) there's an invoice for some subscription for $399. Obviously fake. Bogus phone number, etc.
-
I go to PayPal and the invoice is also there. So, I call and she tells me as long as I didn't click "pay" it will never pay, so that's good. She tried to have me forward it to their phishing department, but roadrunner is not working today apparently in terms of forwarding, so I couldn't.
-
I also notice that there's a $29.99 charge from Spectrum. Their auto pay for all my services had already cleared on the first. So, I call Spectrum to see what the extra charge is for and they tell me they've never charged me that amount - not today, not ever.
-
Now I know the writing is on the wall, so I call back PayPal, stop the card and now I'm without that card, which I have many autopays on, for seven to ten days. Additionally, we have to dispute the 29.99 and I won't get THAT back for thirty days now. I then transferred the entire balance to my bank account so there's zero in the PayPal account, so there's no way for anyone to get anything out of there.
-
See what I mean?
-
What a day for BK! Let's get off the page with all that bad stuff!
-
A new page - page 5!
-
So sorry to hear that, BK.
-
Tonight's concert with the English Concert conducted by Harry Bicket with countertenor Iestyn Davies was excellent. They played music by Handel, Vivaldi, and Corelli.
-
Originally the concert was going to feature mezzo-soprano Emily d'Angelo and include music by Ferrandini, a composer I had not heard of before. She withdrew due to illness a month ago, about a week after I bought my ticket.
-
I don't think of myself as a countertenor fan but I think that's because of some mediocre experiences the first few times I heard any. Singing standards have gotten a lot better and I always seem to enjoy them nowadays.
-
The concert was in Wigmore Hall which is one of my happy places. It's probably my all-time favorite small recital hall (e.g. small enough to not be able to fit more than 20 or so musicians onstage).
-
That's great, DR MichaelG. Thanks for sharing the experience with us.
-
Loved that photo survey, DR ChasSmith. Count me among the others who have never seen or watched Grease in any form.
I saw Davies in Mark Rylance's production of Farinelli and the King. A little countertenor goes a long, long way with me.
Sounds like a terrific evening, MichaelG!
I saw that in his bio. I love Rylance so I would have liked to see that. But I know what you mean about countertenors. Make sure you don't go to El Niño at the Met or you'll hear three of them!
This day cannot be over quick enough. Ordered a smash burger because it was 25% off. I've had one from this place before and it was good. Well, since it's today, this thing was absolutely vile and I probably shouldn't have eaten it. It didn't taste rancid, but something was really off and I'm kind of nauseous from it - hopefully, it won't turn into anything worse.
-
That's terrible.
Wellness vibes for BK!
I do plan on writing about both in the pages of my magazine. I think it’s a rare case where book and movie complement each other nicely. Book is more subtle. Movie takes some broad approaches, but they work.
-
Ate a couple nice meals in Tampa today with the boss. The convention is nice. Some fancy caskets and hearses among the elaborate booths.
-
Finished with my viewing - perfect in that it was a horribly horrible movie on this horribly horrible day. Just ordered some egg rolls because I've still got this awful taste of that awful whatever it was I ate earlier. I had full credit, so what I just ordered didn't cost anything. Also, a couple of pork baos.
