Well, you've read the notes, the notes were one for the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the 127 cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GRATEFUL!
-
Congrats, BK, on the very successful KRITZERLAND 127!
-
And great pictures, even from the side. :)

What wonderful notes and photos.
Congrats to MR BK & Co.
Obviously THAT was the only place to be last night!
-
Slow news day.
We have cloud cover right now so the sun isn't beating us down. That will come later....with more temps in the 90's.
-
I watched a few more of the TONY clips and didn't like much of what I saw.....I really liked the GATSBY put together.....but I just don't think the story lends itself to becoming a musical - but I have been wrong before.
And will be again.
-
A wonderful repor on the show, Bruce.
Am happy you are thrilled with it, and its success is well deserved.
-
What shall I do with today?
I'll think of something...
-
What wonderful notes and photos.
Congrats to MR BK & Co.
Obviously THAT was the only place to be last night!
It must have been! I spend my evening surfing youtube looking for musical numbers from a variety of folks, including Brent Barrett.
My favorite was a duet he did with Rebecca Luker from "Brigadoon".
-
Good morning, all!
-
I was in bed by 9:30 and slept well until 1:30. I then took several pills. The remainder of the night was a lot of pains and aches that one muscle relaxer, one painkiller, and one Tylenol did little to help.

So far, today has been mostly frustrating: I had no internet and my phone had no service. Both are with Spectrum, but the television was working. I don't know if the problem was inside the apartment or with the cable to the building, but after 15 or so minutes, after I had unplugged and plugged back ion the modem and the router, everything was back up. Then, while I was getting my oatmeal and coffee, on e of the wheels on the cart I use to tote things around the apartment fell off, so I need to deal with that this morning. I'm just happy that this didn't happen while I was pushing it with a hot cup of coffee; there could have been a mess.
-
Today, I need to talk to Doug about my publisher and the ballet score. This place needs a real tidy-up.
-
BK, last night's show sounds absolutely fantastic. I got teary reading about it.

Sounds like an absolutely amazing Kritzerland show, I wish I could have been there

Good morning, all.

Who knows what the day will bring?

I think the notes have inspired me to listen to some Sherman Brothers music.

BK, such fabulous Notes and photos!
Congratulations on the great success of last night's Kritzerland show!
-
Good morning, all.

Kritzerland 127 sounds like a WINNER.
Congratulations to BK and the whole damned shootin' match.

Reading about the preparations for 127 made me think constantly of the 2014 Sherman show in NYC, and of what I've read of the Sherman birthday celebration shows in LA, but there's no question that 127 was the ultimate.
-
I need to take out the as-yet-unused kazoo we were all given when I played in How to Succeed, which I didn't have to play because at least a dozen of the orchestra played theirs, and sit down with "Two Roads".

In other news, the auditions are OVER, thank the lord.
Practically everything about these two sessions fell somewhere between awkward and hideous. This was a classic community theeder turnout. Absolutely classic. I'd be tempted to put it right up there with Waiting for Guffman, but I wouldn't want to insult the movie.
This director is good, there's a good support system at this place, and I'm sure he'll whip the show (The Spitfire Grill) into shape. He's both directing and music directing, and he might call me in at some point to play a few rehearsals while he concentrates on the directing side, and that'll be fine. But oh man, the parade of humanity that passed through...

Tonight I'm going to the Bedford Playhouse for a special film and presentation by Robert Harris:

It will be a most enjoyable and enlightening evening for the likes of moi.
-
So here we are, at Day One of our heat wave. In a couple of hours I will start some A/C.
I'm spending most of the day indoors and working on some musical stuff.
-
And that's about enough of me, don't you think?
I certainly think.
It seems like I had one more observation to make re the Tonys, and it will have to come to me later.
-
Damned IRS assholes! According to the IRS Refund page, I'm getting a refund on Thursday. The amount given is $49 less than the return requested.
So, in today's mail, I got a letter from the IRS, dated last Friday, in which I'm told m,y return will be delayed for possibly sixty days while I am investigated for IRS fraud. Seriously.
WTF?

Celecoxib is the daytime one.

Last night I started a French movie from France called The Taste of Things. It was not to be sampled on an empty stomach. It is about a 19th century French cook and his assistant (Juliette Binoche) preparing a stunning meal. It makes Babette's Feast seem like a snack.
-
And I can't eat for another 15 minutes.

I'm sort of up, I'm sort of up - maybe two hours of sleep. I doubt I'll get more until the afternoon.

The ghoulish auction of Sondheim stuff is now. And it is as hilariously horrifying as can be imagined. I have no idea who the bidders are either in person or online, although most seems to not be online. Things valued at $300 tops are going for thousands of dollars - things people wouldn't even give a second glance to - but they were owned by "the master." I've never seen anything like this.
-
Four posters of no particular value but for them being Sondheim shows, go for 4K. Valued at 200.
-
Starting bid might be 100 - first competing bid? 1200. I mean, lunacy.
-
No surprise, but The Heart of Rock and Roll is closing. The surprise to me is that there is a cast album
-
Starting bid 200 - first competing bid 2K - those are absentee or phone bids by people whose tops are those figures - no one and I mean no one is getting anything for a reasonable cost here. Even in huge celebrity auctions there are deals to be had and those auctions there are tons of dealers bidding in the mix. I don't know a single dealer who'd be in this mix. This is all crazy Sondheads, most of whom, I'm guessing, are the members of various Sondheim Facebook groups.
-
I do wonder how many are in the room at Doyle's in NY.
-
There are only sixty-two online - very low.
-
Two lamps top value 200. This one isn't moving like the others - however, 700, so far the lowest price in the auction.
-
And on it goes.
-
Floor bidders just cannot stand to let anything go at a reasonable price. It's a game.
-
Insane
-
Cary Grant should be at the auction to liven things up.
-
And here is where the ticket that DR JANE sent me ended up.....right next to my lump of coal from the debris field.

Nice!

Was it on That Girl or maybe Lucy where one of them thought she was bidding 2 dollars but was actually bidding 2,000, and I believe hilarity ensued?
-
Plus the 20% buyer's premium.
-
The real insanity are the window cards - none especially rare - eight Kennedy center Sondheim show posters 5K.
-
The floor bidders are disgusting - they simply will not let anyone have a decent price. I wonder if any of them will own up to it on Facebook.
-
A Faberge gilt silver box in the shape of a pool table just went for - high estimate was 18K - went for 55K and an 11K Buyer's Premium. Who HAS that kind of money.
-
Bruce, congratulations on your wonderful night to remember.
-
From DR George:
So, when I was getting dressed to go, I just randomly picked out one of my Hawaiian shirts to wear since I have so many, and it was totally appropriate for the event! ;D
If you hadn't said this I would have been shocked ;D
-
From DR John:
The doctor thinks it's a pinched nerve in my neck. So he did nothing.
And I complained that I was only sent for PT. I was also going to have an MRI, except I had no way of getting to the test.
-
When I finally had a ride for the test the doctor said that I waited too long and opted not to do the MRI.
-
George, congrats on winning the door prize.

-
When I finally had a ride for the test the doctor said that I waited too long and opted not to do the MRI.
Why?
I couldn't get a ride as we were new to the area and I didn't have friends yet and Keith was working hard at a new job. I wanted drugs to go into an MRI machine and would have needed Keith to drive me.
As for the doctor taking away the order, likely because I was beginning to improve with PT.
-
DR Jrand, we enjoyed seeing the photos. Keith was especially interested in your lump of coal.

DR elmore3003 - hoping the IRS website has the information that is true and correct.

It makes Babette's Feast seem like a snack.
Wow!
-
Very nice display, DR Jrand73. Love the new add from DR Jane!
-
It's too bad SOME of the Sondheim stuff couldn't have been kept together to create a museum or some permanent display, but I guess it's all about the almighty dollar.
-
I would have purchased a hard copy of the auction catalog, but it doesn't appear that they created one.
-
Or if they did, it was not made publicly available.

I suspect the things going to the Library of Congress were settled before the things to be auctioned went to Doyles.

Maybe though I would like to have know if it was more than just a pinched nerve. It still occassionally bothers me but nothing like when I first pinched it.

I tend to forget that new books will be released at 9:00pm on the West Coast.
-
I was very pleased to see the new book, that I was first in the eBook library queue, became available last night instead of today.
-
The timing was perfect as I had finished reading a book and was ready to begin a new one.
-
OH. MY. GOD.
I'm watching the bidding now. Just came in at:
GYPSY vocal score, (the paperbound) inscribed to SS by Jule Styne, estimated $800-$1200, sold for $11,000.
-
But I know someone who won something: Lot 235, pair of Victorian armchairs, estimated at $500-$700, won for $900 - and he and a buddy are splitting it and taking one each.
-
I’m supposed to have my MRI tomorrow. I just got the paperwork that it has not been approved. The doctor is supposed to call the insurance company and there’s a possibility it could be covered, but I don’t hold out hope that the doctor’s office will work that quickly.
-
Well, the folks there are certainly having a good time. There's plenty of appreciative laughter during the bidding.

Darn! This is why I thought your appointment was rather fast. When I had my last MRI, though it wasn't urgent, they allowed more time for the approval notice.

Back from banking, a CVS run and a lunch meeting - I had matzo ball soup and a bagel.

This Sondheim auction is beyond belief. Everything, no matter how trivial or stupid, is going for thousands of dollars. Some ninny paid 35K for the gold record of West Side Story's soundtrack - high estimate was 1500, which is about right. 35K PLUS buyer's premium and tax. That is some kind of stupid. Where people get this kind of money is anyone's guess. Signed musical quote went for 25K - do you know how many Sondheim musical quotes I've had for various silent auctions? They all sold at great prices, the most expensive of which was about 4K.
-
It's a free-for-all.
-
Sorry about the insurance, DR John G. That stinks.
-
Thanks for the Merrily information, DR Freddie.
-
Exciting prospects.

Wow! Makes you wonder how much Richard Sherman musical quotes or memorabilia would go for, maybe for charity or to carry on his work. That has to be an even bigger fan base.

Great news - thanks for sharing! I thought the Hamilton film was really well done.
I can guarantee you it would not have THAT kind of insanity. This was really like nothing I've seen before. A bunch of insane Sondhead FANatics going at it, with virtually no Invaluable online bidders winning a single item. Invaluable is the auction site I use because you can register for auctions everywhere through them and there's no fee or anything. I'm guessing all the NY Sondheads were in the room where it happened and perhaps a couple of the really high ticket items went to really successful people like Lin-Manuel Miranda or Spielberg - I don't know how anyone could bid those gold records up that high. Nuts.
-
I don't think that Sondheim autographs have gone up significantly - this craziness was because their Lord and Master, Mr. Sondheim owned this stuff.
-
I'm so trashed. Not even two hours of sleep last night. I did get about forty-five minutes on the couch, and then an additional ninety when I plopped down in bed.
-
Dear me, I'm about to hit a new high number, but the one after that will really be something.
-
Have started A Man and a Woman. It’s not what I expected. And I like it. Love that music.
-
Anouk Aimee was certainly beautiful.
-
Remembering this Willie Mays tribute song "Say Hey, Willie"
from a "Partridge Family" episode sung by the very young Ricky Segall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uH-4SUP-d0U
My memory of the song was of Ricky Segall singing it better than that, maybe on a variety show, but the Partridges (with David Cassidy on the banjo) seem to be enjoying Ricky's rendition.
-
Good night, all.
-
Anouk Aimee has died at 92. I may stream A Man and a Woman later.
I saw that earlier. :(
-
I need to take out the as-yet-unused kazoo we were all given when I played in How to Succeed, which I didn't have to play because at least a dozen of the orchestra played theirs, and sit down with "Two Roads".
Oh, you mean this "Two Roads"? ;D
-
I'm rearranging things and I found this in a box that I was looking through.
-
I also came across this:
-
These shall no longer be hidden away in a box...in a pile with other music on a shelf, yes, but not in a box.
-
I also found this and took a picture a few days ago and forgot to post it:
-
THEN, I found a box of vintage (1950s-1960s) Playbills and Stagebills in seven binders that a theater friend gave me years ago.
-
He got them from someone who didn't want them, and then he didn't want them, so he offered them to me for free!
-
I, of course, took them, and promptly hid them away in a box. ::)
-
But now, the binders are on a shelf in my living room, so they can be looked through.
-
I didn't look through many of them (yet), but in just flipping through some of them, I found a Playbill from the original production of Gypsy with Ethel Merman!
-
I didn't think to take a picture of that, but I did have the presence of mind to take a picture of this:
-
And this:
-
Both Gypsy and ALNM Playbills were from the original productions and casts!
-
And BK, in amongst the Playbills in the binders was this program:
-
:D
-
Pretty cool, huh?
-
Some Playbills even had ticket stubs stapled to them!
-
A couple of ticket stubs fell out of a binder, but they didn't have the show title printed on the stubs. :-\
-
PAGE SEVEN SEVEN PLAYBILL BINDERS DANCE!!
-
I just realized that I had seven binders and it's Page Seven. ;D
-
And here's a close-up of the two untitled tickets:
-
Wow...next month will be the 65th anniversary of those tickets!

That's too bad. I love that show!
-
I really hope they all pull together and end up with a great production.
-
So here we are, at Day One of our heat wave. In a couple of hours I will start some A/C.
I'm spending most of the day indoors and working on some musical stuff.
~~~Stay Cool Vibes for ChasSmith!!~~~
-
Damned IRS assholes! According to the IRS Refund page, I'm getting a refund on Thursday. The amount given is $49 less than the return requested.
So, in today's mail, I got a letter from the IRS, dated last Friday, in which I'm told m,y return will be delayed for possibly sixty days while I am investigated for IRS fraud. Seriously.
WTF?
NOOOOO!!!!!! :o
The ghoulish auction of Sondheim stuff is now. And it is as hilariously horrifying as can be imagined. I have no idea who the bidders are either in person or online, although most seems to not be online. Things valued at $300 tops are going for thousands of dollars - things people wouldn't even give a second glance to - but they were owned by "the master." I've never seen anything like this.
I wondered about the values that were assigned. Watching Antiques Roadshow, they say that a lot of value can be increased just because a particular person owned it. :-\
-
Starting bid 200 - first competing bid 2K - those are absentee or phone bids by people whose tops are those figures - no one and I mean no one is getting anything for a reasonable cost here. Even in huge celebrity auctions there are deals to be had and those auctions there are tons of dealers bidding in the mix. I don't know a single dealer who'd be in this mix. This is all crazy Sondheads, most of whom, I'm guessing, are the members of various Sondheim Facebook groups.
There were several things with reasonable assigned values that I would've loved to have, but I knew that they would not sell at those values.
And here is where the ticket that DR JANE sent me ended up.....right next to my lump of coal from the debris field.
That's great, Jrand!
The real insanity are the window cards - none especially rare - eight Kennedy center Sondheim show posters 5K.
OMG!!
-
A Faberge gilt silver box in the shape of a pool table just went for - high estimate was 18K - went for 55K and an 11K Buyer's Premium. Who HAS that kind of money.
Not I!
-
From DR George:
So, when I was getting dressed to go, I just randomly picked out one of my Hawaiian shirts to wear since I have so many, and it was totally appropriate for the event! ;D
If you hadn't said this I would have been shocked ;D
::)
-
:D
-
George, congrats on winning the door prize.
Thanks, Jane!
-
I would have purchased a hard copy of the auction catalog, but it doesn't appear that they created one.
Or if they did, it was not made publicly available.
That's too bad.
-
It's too bad SOME of the Sondheim stuff couldn't have been kept together to create a museum or some permanent display, but I guess it's all about the almighty dollar.
I suspect the things going to the Library of Congress were settled before the things to be auctioned went to Doyles.
That makes sense. They probably got the best picks and the rest was sold off.
-
OH. MY. GOD.
I'm watching the bidding now. Just came in at:
GYPSY vocal score, (the paperbound) inscribed to SS by Jule Styne, estimated $800-$1200, sold for $11,000.
Yikes!
-
But I know someone who won something: Lot 235, pair of Victorian armchairs, estimated at $500-$700, won for $900 - and he and a buddy are splitting it and taking one each.
That's really cool. Congrats to them!
Gratuitous Post #200!!
I’m supposed to have my MRI tomorrow. I just got the paperwork that it has not been approved. The doctor is supposed to call the insurance company and there’s a possibility it could be covered, but I don’t hold out hope that the doctor’s office will work that quickly.
Oh, my goodness!! What's the matter with them??
Great news - thanks for sharing! I thought the Hamilton film was really well done.
I agree! I really enjoyed Hamilton. I wonder if they were the same company that filmed Bandstand. I loved that show!
This Sondheim auction is beyond belief. Everything, no matter how trivial or stupid, is going for thousands of dollars. Some ninny paid 35K for the gold record of West Side Story's soundtrack - high estimate was 1500, which is about right. 35K PLUS buyer's premium and tax. That is some kind of stupid. Where people get this kind of money is anyone's guess. Signed musical quote went for 25K - do you know how many Sondheim musical quotes I've had for various silent auctions? They all sold at great prices, the most expensive of which was about 4K.
I treasure the Sondheim autograph I bought in one of your auctions.
I think I got a letter from Sondheim to BK, but I can't remember where it may be. I DO know that I got a couple of pages of music that Sondheim had marked up for BK's recordings. :)
-
I was also able to buy from P.S. Classics' website an autographed copy of the Encores production of Merrily. Sondheim, Jonathan Tunic AND Lin-Manuel Miranda (before he wrote Hamilton) autographed it, as well as several others.
And I believe until a couple years ago a regular visitor to the Giants clubhouse, where he would set up in long-time clubhouse manager Mike Murphy's office. Can you imagine current Giants players getting to hang around Willie Mays?
IT'S FINALLY PAGE EIGHT!! :D
Oh, and for dinner, I went to McDonald's and had a Big Mac and diet Coke.
-
Actually, I had two Big Macs. ::)
-
I have a discount card that was sold by the local high school, and when you present it at local businesses, you can get discounts for various (but specific) items at about a dozen places around town.
-
The local McDonalds' offer is to get a free Big Mac when you purchase a Big Mac.
-
It's only good at this one specific McDonald's.
-
But the card is good for a whole year and only cost $10!
-
Here's the back of the card so you can see what all can be gotten:
Actually, I just counted and there are 19 to be exact. ;)
-
I haven't used it at most of the businesses, but even for the five where I do regularly use it, I have more than made up for the cost of the card.
-
If your local high school has anything like this, I highly recommend buying one (or more)!
-
You won't regret the savings over the course of a whole year. :)
Gratuitous Post in memory of the TV show Room 222! ;D
We had the ubiquitous computer freeze earlier and now it's just being so disgustingly slow - that will clear up soon, but it's so irritating.
So angry with Apple not doing a twenty-seven inch all in one.
New notes are up.
Up are new notes.
The sleeping pill didn't work again. I've listened to three hours of a fun new book.
-
I've seen them.
I've read them.
I wrote them.
