Well, you've read the notes, the notes ran hot and cold, and now it is time for you to post until the hot and cold cows come home.

And the word of the day is: DESIDERATUM!

"...it gets very chilly in her while it’s cooling down." :o

So, about the A Grand Night for Singing VHS tape that I recorded from TV...there were a couple of the actual PBS released VHS tapes on eBay and I added both to my Watchlist. Well, one of the sellers made an offer to me for their unopened copy for 30% off! It'll be on its way to my VCR very soonly!

George, thanks so much for your lovely comment last night!

Good morning, all.
-
Almost eight hours of sleep.
-
As the French might say, pas mal. That’s lam sap spelled backwards.
-
Good morning, all!
-
BK, I suggest a new air conditioner with a thermostat.
-
I slept rather well, and I'm happy to report that I woke with no feelings of needing another hour or two of sleep.

Last night I read in Caleb Carr's My Beloved Monster the chapter on the cats he had as a boy. By the time I finished reading the tragedy of beautiful black cat Ching-ling, her third batch of kittens, and her horrible death in a botched surgery at four years of age, I was blubbering like a baby and wailing like a wild thing.
-
The book is beautifully written, very interesting, both as biographies of Carr and Masha as well as a treatise on cats.
-
After my usual housekeeping chores, I have no plans. Please keep the work vibes coming. I cannot survive on my Social Security and pension. Last year. I had the ballet aentary income. This year, there's been very little work. I have to get Stella to the vet.
-
Congratulations on the milestone, BK.

It’s ready from the library. I need to finish up a few books first, including Bury Your Gays, a mystery about a gay TV writer who has been ordered to kill off gay characters in his TV show.

When I retired from the Navy on 12/31/93, i drove up to Oakland CA from San Diego CA.
I shared a really nice apartment with an old friend for a couple of years. I do not recall ever getting so warm in summer that I wished we had A/C. At that time, Oakland was always cool enough in evenings for a jacket or sweater no matter what time of year it was. A "hot" day was in the low 80s, and it never seemed to be the norm.
When I moved into my own condo in 1995, the weather was much the same in the Bay Area. I had a window fan in my bedroom, and that was all I ever needed.
However, as the years moved on, we had more and more really warm days. It got to a point where I had to go to Sears and buy an a/c window unit. Bay Area houses and apartments simply did not have air conditioning. They had fireplaces, though, which would often be lit in the evenings on cool summer nights.
By the time I retired a second time, there were no oool summer nights. I had a/c units in living and bed rooms. And I used them daily during the summer.
Here in SC, there is no point in NOT having a/c. I set my thermostat in winter and summer and the HVAC system maintains consistent temperatures for me in the house. There is only a brief period in spring and fall when the system does not come on at all.

I am delinquent because I woke up yesterday with what has proved to be the worst case of diverticulitis I've had. I'm used to getting a little flare-up once a year or so, but yesterday's was more intense. I had a couple of degrees of fever so I called my "primary" who advised me to go to an urgent-care center (since they had not one minute in which to see me yesterday), and if I couldn't get in, just go to an ER. Fortunately the urgent care could see me, and they explained that the reason the doc would have wanted me to be seen today is the fever. But if you keep having the pains or the fever, you do have to go to the ER and get an abdominal cat-scan and bloodwork which will tell us for sure what the problem is. By then I was feeling much better and she said okay, you get option 1, which is an antibiotic, and see if that starts to improve things. I got Cipro for my first time, and boy is it strong but I don't care. I'm on it for seven days.

From Grazie:
Not only does the Ice Cream Diet exist, but it also works.
This dietary regimen, acclaimed as the best summer weight-loss diet, was devised by Pietro Migliaccio, a nutritionist and President of the Italian Society of Nutrition.
Obviously, despite its name, it doesn’t promise weight loss in exchange for binges of ice cream in front of the TV. However, it does allow for consuming one or two ice creams a day and still losing weight. Which isn’t bad at all.
-
The doctor there told me that they often don't even treat diverticulitis unless it really gets bad, because it's so common that people tend to "get used to having a flare-up" now and then and have usually figured out what to eat or drink in the meantime that works for them.

It makes sense. It's probably all about balancing everything you eat.

From George:
Well, this is something that Jane might be interested to learn about (I know my sister and niece will be):
Beyond Meat's newest sausages aren't pretending to be meat anymore
Beyond Sun Sausage isn't meant to mimic meat. Instead, it features whole vegetables and legumes
Thank you. This is very interesting. I've yet to meet a sausage, meat or plant based, that I like. These might actually be good.

I knew a Pete Migliaccio in Naples. He first started the Naples LIttle Theater in the early 70s. By the time I arrived in Naples and joined the group, he had withdrawn because he was head of the school teacher's union, Naples chapter, a Department of Defense school system.
When Pete's tour as the union president ended, I was leaving Naples. When I returned 10 years later, he was still there and it was he who approached me about re-starting the "NLT" theater company. Many things had changed, however. A major earthquake in the early 1980s had caused a lot of "local" damage that saw military families moving further away from the base. Further away meant more time on the road to and from the theater for rehearsals. And with that, bit parts and/or chorus only cast members simply would not show up. Logistics!!
Back to Pete: He was a native New Yorker who retired from the DODs school system in 1988. He went back to New York in June, was diagnosed with cancer and died within a month of the diagnosis. Not the same "Pietro" Migliaccio, obviously, but it was a common name for Italian-Americans and Italians alike.

elmore, the A/C/heat has a thermostat - it just occasionally blows tepid air when it should be cold. When it was fixed the last time the guy who did the work couldn't figure out why because it didn't do it while he was here. We've called him twice since but it doesn't do it when he finally comes. Otherwise, it works fine.

I never even heard of A Walk with Love and Death. I see the screenplay is by Dale Wasserman, who wrote the script for Man of La Mancha.

Up until Pete retired the story was nice. I've seen stories like this that are very sad.

Good!
-
I never even heard of A Walk with Love and Death. I see the screenplay is by Dale Wasserman, who wrote the script for Man go La Mancha.
It almost killed Angelica Huston's acting career before it began.
-
And Wasserman's script is not the movie's strong suit.
-
Had CPK lunch special for food. Teeny-tiny seven-inch sausage and pepperoni and mushroom pizza (four one-bite slices) and a teeny-tiny side Caesar salad for a very reasonable price. The pizza was good except they put some bushes in it - maybe basil - that I had to remove but that affected the taste. Salad was fine, and all under 1000 calories.
-
In addition to forward momentum, a modern major miracle happened, too, and that's a good thing.

San Antonio Opera is staging a mariachi opera this fall called Cruzar la Cara de la Luna. I know nothing about it, but I am looking forward to it.
-
Having recently completed all six seasons of "Lost", I decided to revisit "Heroes" on Peacock.
The first two episodes were fun, and commercials were sparse.
Today, I played season three and there was at least 10 one-minute commercials. In fact, every time a station break fade-out happened, there was another commercial.
So...that's finished. I don't appreciate commercials on services I pay to get.
-
And Wasserman's script is not the movie's strong suit.
The Georges Delerue score is really good.

Quiet night.

I have my pre-op appointment in the morning for my upcoming cataract surgery. We will be discussing what, if any options I have to correct my vision and then I will need to make a decision.
I'm very nervous about this appointment, not about the upcoming cataract removal, that I will end up with more eye issues as a result than I already have, and that I will still have crappy vision.
Sigh.

Shrek was a train-wreck. Worse than I remember.

The cast was certainly game, but, boy, the lyrics are fifth rate and the music as forgettable as if it weren’t there.

I’m exhausted.

I am looking forward to being home on Friday night to watch the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics in Paris!!!!
Enjoy! I'll have to watch them online later for two reasons: 1, I don't have any broadcast or even cable TV; and 2, I'll be playing cards at my mom's. :)
-
I don’t have any broadcast or cable tv either. Though I will not be playing cards at George’s mom’s.
-
My own momz has left town. Drive her to SeaTac yesterday. Traffic coming home was miserable. Shoulda brought one of the kids so I could use the HOV lane.
-
Again with page six?
-
And where exactly is George. He hasn't even responded to the e-mail I sent him.
-
Perhaps he fell asleep eating a burrito.
-
He's like an old fogey.
-
Page six is ridic.
-
You know it, I know it, and the man in the moon knows it.
-
I gotta tell you...
-
Maybe he's out getting a sandwich.
-
He isn't here, that much we know.
-
And he WILL be held accountable.
-
I'm listening to a Chopin piano concerto played by a wonderful pianist Marguerite Long, a French pianist from France.
-
I like Chopin.
-
I feel we would have been friends.
-
He certainly could write a tune.
-
Now this may be a little TMI, but we’re all chums here. I’m approaching Seattle with my mom, and I get a bad rumble in the ol’ gut. I’m hitting a wall of traffic and my GPS directs me to drive off the highway into the city. So I’m now on a residential side street god knows where when the tummy hits again. And it’s like, this is no longer something I can deny. I literally became a kid again. “Mom! I’m in real trouble!” We’re 30 minutes from the airport. I’m looking for anywhere. I’m considering bushes. I come to an intersection just praying for a Starbucks. Anything.
-
He really wanted to be friend with me but I wasn't born.
-
Don't leave us in suspense.
-
Waiting.
-
So is Chopin.
-
Chopin had a similar problem to Rodzinski but he never did find a Starbuck's.
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
And I do not care for George's "jam."
-
First thing I see is a veterinary hospital. Pull into their parking lot. Run in, acting calm. “Hey do you have a restroom I could use?” And the kids at the front desk are like “Sure!” They were so nice! It was like an employees only bathroom too. But thank god, it all worked out. I was seconds from disaster.
-
Whew!
-
Peace in our time.
-
Happy endings, to coin a well-worn phrase.
-
Where the HELL is George and his stupid "jam?"
-
BK is there a single Kritzerland title that comes to mind as your lowest seller?
-
Of the CDs. I mean.
-
That reminds me, I want to order Directed By for reading on our flight to Japan next month.

Taking the kids to Tokyo for a week. I’ve never been.
-
BK is there a single Kritzerland title that comes to mind as your lowest seller?
Everything we've released has done well except for the Baja Marimbas reissue and the Junior High School CD - the Blu-ray of the latter, however, has done VERY well.
-
I wouldn't mind going to Tokyo.
-
Just ordered food from a fancy-shmancy restaurant in Beverly Hills - I used to go every now and then but to go there and have a full meal is hugely expensive. I was shocked to see it on Uber Eats - Crustacean is the name and I ordered their secured garlic noodles, which are incredible, with giant prawns. Price wasn't more than Cheesecake Factory and with the 50% off it was very reasonable. I suspect it's a smaller meal, which is fine. I almost ordered the garlic noodles by themselves but you have to order twenty-five bucks for the discount and that was 22 - with the prawns it was 29 and I figure it's like shrimp scampi in a way.

Well, George is being a real party pooper this evening.
-
Who knows if he'll even show up at one minute to midnight, his usual jam.
-
Very rude.
-
VERY rude.
-
But what can one do?
-
What can two do?
-
I know not.
-
Such are the way of things.
-
Ms. Long is now playing the Ballade by Faure - beautiful piece and playing in excellent mono sound.
-
I think we should brain George.
-
Ah well.
-
Well ah.
-
I don’t have any broadcast or cable tv either. Though I will not be playing cards at George’s mom’s.
If you're ever in town, you'd be more than welcome to play cards, Rodzinski!
-
I'm excited about the garlic noodles and it it all travels well, I may have the crab fried rice on Friday.
-
I didn't even know they were open for lunch.
-
Oh look, the prodigal George has finally shown up.
-
I'm sure he was VERY busy doing VERY important things, like not responding to e-mails.
-
I love Faure.
-
George makes one post and that's it?
-
That's IT?
-
Most unseemly.
-
And not very sporting.
-
Just sitting there like egg drop soup.
-
And where exactly is George. He hasn't even responded to the e-mail I sent him.
Oh! Let me check it out. :-\
-
He's probably eating beans from a can.
-
I considered buying that Baja Marimba cd for a buddy at one point. He may have gotten it himself.
-
New notes are up.
-
Maybe he's out getting a sandwich.
I actually has some KFC tonight...they got the order wrong, though. :P
-
Up are new notes.
-
I ordered mashed potatoes and gravy, and they only gave me gravy! :o
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And then I also ordered macaroni and cheese, and I didn't get that.
-
How rude! >:(
-
Damn KFC.
-
But the chicken tenders that I had ordered were correct and quite tasty.
-
The damn noive.
-
If I had a cd player I’d get the alternate Panic in Needle Park cd.
-
I, too, had chicken tenders for my evening snack - from Popeye's - very good and hit the damn spot.
-
Panic in Needle Park is a wonderful score.
-
First thing I see is a veterinary hospital. Pull into their parking lot. Run in, acting calm. “Hey do you have a restroom I could use?” And the kids at the front desk are like “Sure!” They were so nice! It was like an employees only bathroom too. But thank god, it all worked out. I was seconds from disaster.
Whew!
Whew is right!!
-
Wish I had KFC.
-
Where the HELL is George and his stupid "jam?"
No jam tonight, just some gravy without mashed potatoes.
-
PAGE NINE DANCE!! ;D

Hope you have a great time, Rodzinski!

Wow! Congrats on the great deal!
