Notes unveiled. Surveyed.

Good morning, all!
-
Thanks for the Postmodern Jukebox link. I rea;lly like them, and I hadn't seen this one before. I would love to see them live. Scott Bradlee is amazing. I have his book, which I look forward to reading.
-
I slept fine until 4:15 when, following a bathroom break, Annabelle and Thatch descended on me for affection and warmth. I did doze on and off, but that laqst hour and fifteen minutes seemed to last for years.
-
Today is laundry day, and I must get started soon.

Sending BK vibes that today goes as smoothly as yesterday!

Good morning.

Good morning, all.

Yes, indeed!

Good morning, friends.

I made a snow angle today.

Today's a Friday that feels like a Saturday.
I've got two housemates here who are preparing to leave for Howe Caverns in upstate NY for the next two days. They have a special relationship with the people who run that attraction (and the caverns are indeed a magnificent attraction). They had their wedding there in 2012 which helped to revive interest in the place for other people, and last year they started a new tradition of being part of a holiday event for kids by doing readings and stuff in costume. I'm not sure what all it involves, but I know there will be some photographic evidence.
-
It's really acute one.
-
That sounds fun, DR ChasSmith.
-
I hope there will be photos.
-
And, speaking of photos...
-
DR John G., enjoyed your theedur photos from last night.
-
Tonight I'm back to OUR LAST WEEKEND (who ever thought this day would finally arrive??) of the show. For some reason that also makes it feel like a Saturday, even though there's no Sunday show and the last two are Friday and Saturday nights. So go figure.
-
They put me in a festive mood.
-
A festively festive mood, indeed.
-
And a friend in need is a friend indeed.
-
Never understood that one, actually.

PAGE TWO
-
Good morning, all.
-
Got not enough sleep last night. But what I got was good.
-
Never understood that one, actually.
Looking at google, it seems to originate with Euripides - and supposedly means something like "a friend who will help someone when help is needed is a true friend."
The words "a friend in need is a friend indeed" don't seem to quite be saying that, though.
-
Vibes for Part Two for MR BK.
-
Yes nice theeder photos last night!
-
Closing weekend theeder vibes for DR CHAS SMITH & Co.
-
No DR FREDDIE I did not.
-
Last night I watched an Amy Poehler directed documentary titled Lucy & Desi from 2022.
I watched it on the Roku Channel. Some nice clips and some nice observations by Luci.
-
Wow, even on a Friday late morning: 99 Guests are viewing this board.
-
Word about HHW must be catching on!
-
Lucie Arnaz has several great interview clips on the tube of you. She’s a fun speaker.

The laundry is finished, but the apartment is a mess.

I usually buy one bag of the hard Christmas candies....but I couldn't find any this year.

I'm afraid the tariffs will be the end of the Dollar (25) Tree.

From DR Rodzinski:
Haha! Having one’s pants down in a school zone, however, was potentially an all-world problem!
:))
-
I'm glad your car started without any problems.
-
From DR John:
I have had the same thing happen to me, Rodz, since I lost weight. Only not in a school zone. And thankfully not in church.
;D
-
I partially had that problem when hiking with dogs. After clipping dog supplies to my pants loops they would begin to fall ;D
-
John I enjoyed your pretty photos from last night.

.
I have always wanted a real Christmas sweater instead of just wearing red sweaters. I have a Sherlock Christmas t-shirt I wear to the gym.

Yeah! And that sounds more like Tennessee Williams than Euripides. :)
-
Now "Euripides, you pay fa deez" - that makes logical sense as words to live by.

As well as sayings like you post two more posts, we get to page three.

One more...

Page Three!

Jane, I came across this in a review of the new Count of Monte Cristobfilm:
“There’s a reason Alexandre Dumas’s “The Count of Monte Cristo” has proven so durable: it’s satisfying as hell.”
That sums up my opinion of The Three Musketeers as well.

I lose my pants while I'm mowing the lawn.

It still makes me laugh.
"Ten seconds in.....and we're already in the toilet."

I'm up, I'm up - eight and a half hours of sleep.
-
No money yet even thought they got the signed title yesterday. This is infuriating, so I've been e-mailing and all I'm being told is that she's waiting for approval. She knows I want my new car and says it will be timely. Well...
-
And in the middle of that the phone rings and it's Medicare verifying my plan for the new year. She's asking me to verify address and card number and it feels very off to me and I even say that, but I gave her the card number because my head was not in the right place. And, then she starts asking me about my medical history and I put the brakes on and she got off right away. Thankfully, I never gave her the most important thing, social security. I was trying to Google medicare scam and it gave me nothing - after I got off I added scam CALLS and of course there it was. DAMN THEN ALL TO HELL. I'm on the phone now with Medicare fraud.

Good afternoon!

Wordle: 4/6
-
I think we need a few more most excellent vibes and xylophones, folks - BIG TIME.
-
Trying not to wake from a nap.
-
I reported this to Medicare and United Health Care. They don't know any doctor names or visit dates or that I'm with Cedars for my PCP. They HAD my address, and the only other thing that was bad was giving them the Medicare card number. But my account has been noted and if I see any wacky things at any time, I'll report immediately.
-
I am so angry with myself for being so damn stupid. I should have stopped the call instantly and said I'd call back the number - that would have told me everything. But I was in the middle of writing an e-mail to my insurance gal and my head was not on straight, even though I knew there was something off about the call from the get-go and I said so several times, which is why I finally said "NO MORE QUESTIONS" and she promptly got off the line.
-

Sending vibes of all sorts! Hoping everything's OK.

Hoping any irregularities with your Medicare will be easy to catch, and easy to fix if necessary.
-
Insurance gal is now telling me 24 to 48 hours to process the title thing. Well, twenty-four hours has come and gone since they got it yesterday at eleven. 48 puts us into tomorrow and I have no idea if they work tomorrow or not. If it comes tomorrow by eleven I can still get to the bank and transfer it to the business account. But if it slides to Monday, that's not good. Anyway, that's where we're at at the moment.
-
The Medicare thing won't impact me personally - but I don't want them to get away with this crap and have Medicare out of pocket. All they have from me PERSONALLY is my date of birth, which they had, and my address, which they also had. They don't have any banking information or my social security. If I hadn't been dealing with the other thing I would have hung up instantly after the first question. They ask you to verify things and the obvious answer when they ask for a Medicare number is to ask them to read it to you first - that would end it right there. But my he'd was not in the right place.
-
But fair warning to all.
-
When does this day get good?
-
I mean, I can still go to the car place and give them what I can give them and get the car - they're willing to give me the car without the payment being complete, but I'm nervous to do that until I have this second payment.
-
Insurance gal took umbrage at my last email - so I wrote her and said I was NOT criticizing HER - she's been really good about following up and every email I've sent here has said how appreciative I am. I just want to get the second payment. And I obviously don't want to lose the car.
-
I watched some episodes of Space Ghost on Adult Swim.
It still makes me laugh.
"Ten seconds in.....and we're already in the toilet."
The celebrity interviews on there were ahead of their time in using awkward silences and strange editing.
-
Wonder what the weather will bring, JRand, for the big internecine battle in South Bend tonight.
-
Ugh scams are so hard to avoid. Glad you realized before too long.
-
Not answering the phone ever, is one solution, but here you are waiting for calls about another thing, so of course you pick up.
-
I had some gal call me through work the other day, ostensibly to pitch me a product story, but she clearly barely had any idea what kind of magazine we are. Why did I give her my email? They get you with your guard down.
-
I’m sure insurance girl has heard worse than anything you were saying. Don’t sweat it.
-
Get the dough vibes for MR BK.
-
SCAM BEGONE VIBES for everyone on HHW.
-
DR RODZINSKI the temps are supposed to be in the lower thirties tonight.....so the game should be fine.
-
Norma Shearer has the most annoying put on laugh that she uses in every movie.....I'm going to have to turn this damn thing off....it's just TOO much.
-
Is that similar to Steve and Eydie suddenly cracking each other up during performances
which William Goldman in his book about Broadway THE SEASON talked about happening often during GOLDEN RAINBOW and the audience reportedly ate it up?
-
The Carol Burnett Show would have the cast breaking into laughter at Tim Conway's antics in its later years, IIRC.
-
Is that similar to Steve and Eydie suddenly cracking each other up during performances

There was nothing in the show to laugh at.

I just took an assignment for an article.
-
The article is a short piece (600 words) on a restaurant in town that earned a Michelin star, the only place in town to do so.
-
The article pays $250. That’s the cost of dinner there. Guess it’s a break even proposition.
-
The story is about their service, which received a special Michelin citation.
-
I really can’t write about service without experiencing it.

Did you get to see it, John?

I don’t suppose the place you’re writing for foots the bill?
-
I really can’t write about service without experiencing it.
Will the restaurant know you're writing an article about them?
-
Thanks for the research, DR Freddie.
-
I like your interpretation, DR Jane.

~~~CONTINUED CAR AND INSURANCE VIBES~~~ for BK!!!!!
-
I hope those scammers rot in heck. How can they live with themselves?
-
I fell for one when my phone lit up with "Wells Fargo" calling.
Fortunately, it didn't get very far before I came to my senses. After I terminated the call, they tried me back in quick succession 3 more times.
-
I'm afraid the tariffs will be the end of the Dollar (25) Tree.
They will certainly hit hard at Walmart, too. :-\
And this is the reason we went shopping for new appliances. Both our oven and refrigerator need replacing.
-
I lose my pants while I'm mowing the lawn.
It is exhausting trying to remember all the scams.
-
I mean, I can still go to the car place and give them what I can give them and get the car - they're willing to give me the car without the payment being complete, but I'm nervous to do that until I have this second payment.
I think it is best to wait for the money but keep confirming with the car place that they are still holding it for you.
-
Not answering the phone ever, is one solution, but here you are waiting for calls about another thing, so of course you pick up.
Keith did something to my phone that alerts me "possible scam". I avoid those. Once I know that a voice message wasn't left I block the number.
-
Thanks.
DR FREDDIE a dear friend gave me a copy of THE SEASON longer ago than many posters here on HHW have been alive.
Even though some of it is outdated - it is also one of the BEST Broadway books I have ever read.
I loaned a paperback copy to a dear friend. After she passed, her daughter gave me some of her theeder collection....and there was my paperback.
I encourage anyone interested in Broadway to seek out a copy.
I mostly remember the story of two married (to women) men in the lobby of the Palace Theeder in the 1968 or early 1969 return to the Palace of Judy Garland.
1st Guy: I don't know.....is it theeder?
2nd Guy: It's gotta be.
1st Guy: Whadda ya mean?
2nd Guy: It sure as hell ain't singin'.
-
And there are a couple of songs from GOLDEN RAINBOW that I really like....including the infamous freewheeling patio number.
And I used the overture in a production of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom that I directed as the BIG finale.
I was always irritated by the once in your/my life lyric.
-
Keith is popping corn and then we will watch...
Silo 2/6
The Walking Dead - 11/20
The Sticky - 2/6
-
The numbers were the season followed by the episode.
-
Speaking of numbers, Keith got Wordle in three.
Thanks for the research, DR Freddie.
Silo 2/6
We're starting to watch season 4 of FBI International.
The character who's taken over the "Fly Team" for season 4 doesn't give me the same confidence in the (TV version of the) FBI that I felt from the leader of the Team in seasons 1 to 3. The new lead actor playing the part is very good, though.
THE SEASON's view on gay people is more than a bit antiquated by today's NYC standards, but given that, it's a fascinating book.
Good night, Jane
-
451 Guests - on a Friday night!
-
I haven't read The Season in years, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it.
-
William Goldman also wrote three books on Hollywood.
-
Can we get to page six?
-
Before I fall asleep?
-
It's dicey.
-
Also icy.
-
But I will plug along.
-
One more.
-
PAGE SIX
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
Well, at least the day ended well.
-
Although the second payment has not arrived - if it's approved by eleven (the end of the 48 hours) who knows if the gal works on Saturday? So, could be Monday.
-
But after all the crap, I finally took an Uber (you don't want to know the cost) to La Crescenta and the car place. There, we spent much time signing papers and such and then sitting in the vehicle so I could at least get the hang of everything. First off, we found KUSC on the radio. Sound system sounds grand. I'm still getting used to the way you put it in park and drive - that's going to take some time. I gave them two checks - one large, good immediately, and a smaller one that has to wait for the second payment, which they're fine with.
-
We paired the phone with the car but neither of us could figure out how to verbally tell it who to call, and I know it has that feature. I know how to get to contacts and scroll, but you can't do that while driving, so I'll check YouTube, since they have videos on virtually everything.
-
The traffic was awful going there, so as we got later and later in the afternoon, I knew what I was in for, traffic-wise.
-
Well, at least the day ended well.
That's great that it all went well!
-
So, I have a cursory knowledge of the important things and over the next few days, I'll push buttons and navigate around and learn the other stuff.
-
I did find one tiny little ding on the bumper, but I don' know many bumpers that don't have that, since people routinely hit them when trying to park. For a ten-year-old car, it's in pretty great cosmetic condition.
-
I did find a couple of thing on the interior - the thing that closes and opens for the cup holders won't close so I'll go to the Mercedes dealer a mile from here and see if they can fix it quickly.
-
It's nice having a four-door again.
-
This model's a bit bigger than what I had.
-
They put the temporary plates on and the temporary registration, and I had my new insurance card with me for the car.
-
So, at four-thirty I finally left. I drove to the onramp to the 218 freeway east, transitioned to the 2 freeway south, and transitioned to the 134 west where, to my surprise and shock, there was no traffic. And we moved right along all the way to the off-ramp to the mail place. Amazing and appreciated.
-
I picked up my new DGA card and two packages, the most important of which contained a big ol' box of homemade brownies, some other brownie-like thing but with pecans, and a loaf - orange loaf is what it smells like. I'm afraid I'll have to take the day off from no sugar because there's no way I'm not trying the contents.
-
I tried pairing the garage opener with the car and couldn't get it to work - simply because I was doing it wrong. I now have it down and hopefully it will work tomorrow.
-
Then I finally ordered food from CPK - my chopped Eyetalian salad and a cup of their tomato bisque, which was very good.
-
Then several telephonic conversations followed and now I think I'll sit on the couch like so much fish and see what I might feel like watching.
-
I did see a French movie from France before bed last night, entitled Just the Two of Us, starring the wonderful Virginnie Efira from Revoir Paris. She's really amazing - plays twin sisters in this one.
-
I'm trying to forgive myself for my earlier stupidity with the scam call. I wish there was some way that Medicare could just give me a new number, but then that would probably cause problems with United Health Care. What I think I WILL do is give them a list of the doctor names and places I've been and tell them anything outside of that they should check with me before paying.
-
Or actually, paying any venue or person outside of the United States but especially California. Of course, they probably have fake things set up for this, but I can't imagine that Medicare would fall for that and I should think that everything goes through United Health Care anyway.
-
Not going to worry about it.
-
Won't they send you a statement periodically of what they've paid out on your behalf?
When you get those statements, you can look them over then, I think.
-
Did you get to see it, John?
My friend Carol worked on it. The backstage stories are scary. Let's just say audiences hated it.
-
I ushered for A Merry-Achi Christmas tonight. Not my thing. I left after two hours.
-
It was a sold-out house. But more than a few left at intermission.
-
Some with kids left because the show was 2.5 hours long.
-
Onward!
-
Seven!
-
It's late, but I wanted to finish The Wild Robot..
-
The second half isn't as good as the first.
-
Good night, all.
-
Ah, the page that shall not be named.
-
Finished another French movie from France.
-
In true American style, it was a remake of an Argentinian film from the year before, but with an entirely different approach. I enjoyed it and am now going to watch the Argentinian film, which sounds a lot more like a typical movie of today rather than the austere and slightly ambiguous courtroom drama of the remake.
-
Went to the movies with the family to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The kids enjoyed it. We sat in AVX seating which means the seats rumbled and moved a bit with the action on screen. I could handle that for about 3 minutes before I turned my seat off.
-
The movie was corny as hell. Made bearable by Jim Carrey’s hamming it up in two roles. I watched the whole thing without realizing Keanu Reeves was a key voice. That’s good acting.
-
And - where's George?
-
What Ever Happened to George?
-
Starring Bette Davis as George and Joan Crawford as the Burrito.
-
I'd see that.
-
We really cannot have this page.
-
And yet, we are far, far away from page eight.
-
;)
New notes are written and I'm afraid they are rather long.
-
And George finally arrives.
-
I seem to be on my way to a new larger number.
-
I think we need a few more most excellent vibes and xylophones, folks - BIG TIME.
~~~SUPER VIBES FOR BK!!~~~
-
Will it happen this evening?
-
It could.
-
Gratuitous Post #202!!
-
It should.
-
But will it?
-
The suspense is eating at my innards.
-
My innards are eating at my innards.
-
Closer than ever.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! :o
-
Starting here - starting now.
-
Enter page eight.
-
See?
-
And the new large number is definitely doable.
-
It's also doable definitely.
-
All it takes is the guile and the gumption and the grit.
-
True grit.
-
Not the fake kind.
-
The fake kind is fake.

My back is very sore from this damn chair.

The article pays $250. That’s the cost of dinner there. Guess it’s a break even proposition.

DR FREDDIE a dear friend gave me a copy of THE SEASON longer ago than many posters here on HHW have been alive.
Even though some of it is outdated - it is also one of the BEST Broadway books I have ever read.
I loaned a paperback copy to a dear friend. After she passed, her daughter gave me some of her theeder collection....and there was my paperback.
I encourage anyone interested in Broadway to seek out a copy.
I mostly remember the story of two married (to women) men in the lobby of the Palace Theeder in the 1968 or early 1969 return to the Palace of Judy Garland.
1st Guy: I don't know.....is it theeder?
2nd Guy: It's gotta be.
1st Guy: Whadda ya mean?
2nd Guy: It sure as hell ain't singin'.
Yikes! :-\

I tried pairing the garage opener with the car and couldn't get it to work - simply because I was doing it wrong. I now have it down and hopefully it will work tomorrow.
I was able to pair my car with my garage opener.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
Quite the convenience when coming home, but my car has to be on and running for it to work, and I'm not comfortable with starting the car while it's still in the garage and the door shut. :P
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
So, I just start the car's power without starting the engine, get the garage open, then start the engine.
-
I wrote them.
-
And here it is.

I ushered for A Merry-Achi Christmas tonight. Not my thing. I left after two hours.

It was a sold-out house. But more than a few left at intermission.
Yikes! :o
