Although the second payment has not arrived - if it's approved by eleven (the end of the 48 hours) who knows if the gal works on Saturday? So, could be Monday.

But after all the crap, I finally took an Uber (you don't want to know the cost) to La Crescenta and the car place. There, we spent much time signing papers and such and then sitting in the vehicle so I could at least get the hang of everything. First off, we found KUSC on the radio. Sound system sounds grand. I'm still getting used to the way you put it in park and drive - that's going to take some time. I gave them two checks - one large, good immediately, and a smaller one that has to wait for the second payment, which they're fine with.

We paired the phone with the car but neither of us could figure out how to verbally tell it who to call, and I know it has that feature. I know how to get to contacts and scroll, but you can't do that while driving, so I'll check YouTube, since they have videos on virtually everything.

The traffic was awful going there, so as we got later and later in the afternoon, I knew what I was in for, traffic-wise.

So, I have a cursory knowledge of the important things and over the next few days, I'll push buttons and navigate around and learn the other stuff.

I did find one tiny little ding on the bumper, but I don' know many bumpers that don't have that, since people routinely hit them when trying to park. For a ten-year-old car, it's in pretty great cosmetic condition.

I did find a couple of thing on the interior - the thing that closes and opens for the cup holders won't close so I'll go to the Mercedes dealer a mile from here and see if they can fix it quickly.

They put the temporary plates on and the temporary registration, and I had my new insurance card with me for the car.

So, at four-thirty I finally left. I drove to the onramp to the 218 freeway east, transitioned to the 2 freeway south, and transitioned to the 134 west where, to my surprise and shock, there was no traffic. And we moved right along all the way to the off-ramp to the mail place. Amazing and appreciated.

I picked up my new DGA card and two packages, the most important of which contained a big ol' box of homemade brownies, some other brownie-like thing but with pecans, and a loaf - orange loaf is what it smells like. I'm afraid I'll have to take the day off from no sugar because there's no way I'm not trying the contents.

I tried pairing the garage opener with the car and couldn't get it to work - simply because I was doing it wrong. I now have it down and hopefully it will work tomorrow.

Then I finally ordered food from CPK - my chopped Eyetalian salad and a cup of their tomato bisque, which was very good.

Then several telephonic conversations followed and now I think I'll sit on the couch like so much fish and see what I might feel like watching.

I did see a French movie from France before bed last night, entitled Just the Two of Us, starring the wonderful Virginnie Efira from Revoir Paris. She's really amazing - plays twin sisters in this one.

I'm trying to forgive myself for my earlier stupidity with the scam call. I wish there was some way that Medicare could just give me a new number, but then that would probably cause problems with United Health Care. What I think I WILL do is give them a list of the doctor names and places I've been and tell them anything outside of that they should check with me before paying.

Or actually, paying any venue or person outside of the United States but especially California. Of course, they probably have fake things set up for this, but I can't imagine that Medicare would fall for that and I should think that everything goes through United Health Care anyway.

Won't they send you a statement periodically of what they've paid out on your behalf?

When you get those statements, you can look them over then, I think.

Is that similar to Steve and Eydie suddenly cracking each other up during performances

which William Goldman in his book about Broadway THE SEASON talked about happening often during GOLDEN RAINBOW and the audience reportedly ate it up?

There was nothing in the show to laugh at.

Did you get to see it, John?

My friend Carol worked on it. The backstage stories are scary. Let's just say audiences hated it.

I ushered for A Merry-Achi Christmas tonight. Not my thing. I left after two hours.

It was a sold-out house. But more than a few left at intermission.

Some with kids left because the show was 2.5 hours long.
