Yesterday, there was neither burritos nor jam.  I pretty much only had some leftover pizza and a McDonald's cheeseburger.  And some milk.  It was enough. :)

Topic of the Day:  today, we're all going to my mom's for our family gift-giving-and-receiving.  We exchanged names, so we don't have to get something for everyone.  I got my sister's name.  I got her a set of 12 scented candles, one for each month.  I just need to wrap it in the morning. :)

I've been melancholy this morning. I used to go across the street to Holy Trinity Catholic Church on the afternoon of Christmas Eve to pray for family, friends, and the dead I miss.I also pray for a better year than the one that's ending. I'm not Catholic, but the church is beautful, and the peace, quiet, and my weeping over those I miss, living and dead, consoles me. I can no longer manage the church steps and the walker, and these days the list of dead is longer than the living. So, this mornming I was thinking about our DR TCB and how much I miss him among my long list of the dead - friends and lovers - I mourn daily. I am not depressed, just melancholy.

I have no plans for tomorrow. I will open the few Christmas cards I've received in the mail, putter about the apartment, and play with the cats. Ann and Jen may stop by, but it will be a quiet day.

This morning, Stella escaped again, only this time she did not stay on three. When I realized she was lost, I had to get the walker and ead out in search. I began at five, the top floor. I stepped off the elevator and called her name; she was not there. When I called her name, she answered, so I headed to floor. She wasn't ther. I passed three for two. The elevator doors opened and there she was. I coaxed her into the lift, and we rode up to three. She followed me off the elevator, then waited for me to wrestle the walker into the apartment before she stepped inside. Then the cats got their breakfast.

BK, I understand completely your frustrations over the situation, but it seems to me that the car, for which I recall you have given the dealership a payment, is not going to anyone else. Perhaps a call to the dealer and an esplanation of what's going on with the insurance company, might ease your mind?

Yesterday while driving around through HELL on my errands, I heard some of the local classical station's playing of the soundtrack (?) to "George Balanchine's Nutcracker" from 1993. I don't believe I've even seen that version, but what I heard on the radio was mildly amusing. Apparently the recording consists of excerpted sections, not necessarily in score order. I was not impressed with the conducting (David Zinman?), but I judge harshly because I'd been listening to Dorati and Minneapolis this past week, and I believe few can compare with his readings. Those recordings are brilliant in every way.

I still need to sit down with the score to compare all the versions I have for the little cuts taken in studio recordings. I've been looking forward to that, and to just hearing these great recordings again, and I'll finally be able to get to it later in the week.

It was one of the things iTunes did not lose inm the chaos of a month ago. This and Dorati's 1954(?) recording with the Minneapolis Orchestra were the two complete Nutcracker recordings I grew up with, and they remain my favorites.

If you haven't seen the movie with the NY City Ballet and McCauley Culkin, it's a delightdul transfer of the Lincoln Center production.

There was also a film of the Northwest Pacific Ballet production designed by Maurice Sendak, but it tries too hard to be Hoffmann's Casse-Noisette rather than Petipa's ballet so the score is re-adjusted to fit. The score is beauitifully conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras.

And in new news, the basement fridge has died.

Which actually is fine by us, because we rarely use it these days and older fridges suck up the wattage like nobody's business. I went down to throw one thing in the freezer, opened the door, and a rush of warm air -- actually, make that warm, SMELLY air -- rushed out at me. The motor was still running, but we figure the cooling system shat the bed about a month ago. There were a few things in it that were probably on the verge of growing limbs and walking right out of there.

This was a full size refrigerator I brought home when we closed our office in 2002 and I began working from home. There was lots of good stuff we were allowed to take. It was wonderful for a while, having the extra storage, but we just no longer need it. And once we get it out of here, we can sure use the space.

Vixmom, wires from them take three days - what we did for the first payment is the option that it goes right onto your debit card - that's instant and it hit my bank literally forty seconds later. HOW we do it isn't the problem, the problem is their payment system is down - no one can get anything until they fix it and it's working properly.

The Nonna, (who is about five years older than my own kids) came over and gave me a hug for having the children over. She doesn't bake, but her daughters (one of whom is the mother of said children) is learning how to.

This is very sweet.

Do is Done. Spaghetti sauce was, for whatever reason, not quite up to the usual standard but everyone said they liked it and they sure ate a lot of it. However, I made enough for twenty people. There were five of us for most of the evening, then seven, then nine, all me, not one woman showed up and that included the mysterious absence of Amy and Mark, who neither wrote to tell us they weren't coming for the first time in i don't know how many years, and several other regulars, plus Adryan and Dale, Kay Cole, Barry Pearl. I have so much food leftover and why did I bother to make so much. I think from here on in, because of tonight, people will now have to RSVP because I am NOT overcooking like this ever again. I have half a think of tuna pasta salad left AND the entire second batch. And probably three POUNDS of pasta and sauce enough for an army. You see my point, I'm sure.

My 9 year old is right on the verge of not buying into Santa. Yet he still had me checking NORAD’s Santa tracking radar.

I learned the deception I think when I was 7. Santa in those days would come to our house on Christmas Eve and deliver our presents in person. Usually played by an older cousin or relative. I was never phased by the fact he drove up in a car or had one of my cousins as a helper.
But one year I had a view through an angle where I saw my dad hand off the Hefty Bag of presents to “Santa.” Illusion shattered. But hell, I was still getting presents, so it didn’t bother me much.

Keeping with the Christmas spirit - four people cancelled for tonight.

That's too bad.  Hopefully, everyone who showed up had a great time!

Barbie was shocked (shocked, I tell you) on Christmas morning when she showed up at Ken's place, only to find Ken and his buddy Allan both still in their pajamas!
