Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both short and sweet, and now it is time for you to post until the short and sweet cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BONUS!
-
Notes regaled. Impaled.
-
As we wait to board.
-
Lovely news about the show. Big matinee crowd today. Hopefully a lively bunch.
-
TOD: I like the Big Kat. Which is like a giant single bar of Kit-Kat.

Topic of the Day: FAR too many to mention! I don't have a usual (or even preferred) go-to. I'll take whatever's available. :)
-
So, the YouTube channel that posted the Liza video that I shared last night is American Musical Theater Archives (https://m.youtube.com/@AmericanMusicalTheaterArchives).
-
Another one of their most recent videos is The New York Gay Men's Chorus presents a tribute to Stephen Sondheim (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FEbmoko0dm8)! According to the comments, it's from 1989. Larry, were you (still) involved with them at that time?
-
Good morning, friends.

And others.

~~~SAFE & EASY TRAVEL VIBES~~~ for the Rodzes!!!
-
Today, when I woke up, I had absolutely no idea what day it was. I thought, perhaps, Friday?
-
But my DH informed me it was Saturday.
-
This afternoon we will be traveling north to hear the choir of Westminster Cathedral, London.
-
So happy to hear of last night's DRAT! THE CAT! audience reaction.
Also nice to hear that BK's reworking of that comic shtick paid off so well with that change.
-
MichaelG, thanks so much for the LOVE LIFE Encores repor in last night's posts!
-
Good morning, all!
-
DR singdaw, you never answered my inquiry about the cat lamp yesterday.
-
Well, the cats and I slept very late. The alarm rang at 5:30, I went back to bed with Annabelle and Thatch - Stella prefers her Amazon carton - and bext thing I knew, it was 7:15, about eleven hours after I went to bed.
-
DR Rodzinski, I suspect your photo was apprehended for fear of terrorists taking photo information about the building, but when I worked at Barnes & Noble, 1998-2005, photos of the interior were forbidden. Go figure.
-
I believe Ann and Jen are now back from Italy. I expect to see them today or tomorrow.
-
Good morning, all.
-
That's so weird about the taking of photos in some places.
Especially the Barnes & Noble one! WTF?
-
Well, we opened last night!
Full house, great audience. But what do you expect, at a middle school in a small tight-knit wealthy community?
-
And we close tonight!
It'll be a long day. In a couple of hours I'll be getting ready to leave for the 1 p.m. matinee.
-
PS -- I still don't know exactly what's going on in the show
I figure I'll read up on it sometime between this run and the next one I play of the same show in late April. I mean, what's my hurry? Right?
-
It feels totally like a Sunday to me, due to stuff going on yesterday that made that feel like a Saturday. But that's the way of life these days.
Have a good weekend, everyone!
-
DR singdaw, you never answered my inquiry about the cat lamp yesterday.
I replied twice. First to say that I just thought I had seen it scrolling FB. The second time, I posted the link where you can buy said lamp.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Blueberry buttermilk pie is in the oven.
-
In today’s Connections, there’s a reference to a “famous palindrome.” I had to look up thst palindrome and it’s so famous, I have never heard of it.
-
Travel vibes for the Rodz family.
-
Blueberry buttermilk pie!
-
The dish in back is leftover custard with pear flavor added.
-
I like Ginger Chews as something sweet to grab. Butter mints are wonderful too. Chocolate-covered anything from espresso beans to almonds are tempting. So are Jordan almonds.
-
Today I am going to a murder mystery party with an OLD WEST theme. I am the town banker.
I don't know if I am the one who gets killed. We'll see.
And to eat - chili.
-
I like to eat a few cookies when I want a sweet treat.
-
Matinee and talkback vibes for MR BK & Co.
Travel vibes for the RODZINSKI group.
Thanks to DR MICHAELG for the theeder repor.
I loved Hostess chocolate cream-filled cupcakes, but I recently tried the Entenmann's version and their chocolate cake leaves Hostess in the dust.
I am Banker Bob. My bank - the Deadwood Bank - was robbed last week. I think it was Harry who been late on all of his payments for the Deadwood Saloon.
-
Congrats to DR CHAS SMITH on his SpongeBob musical.....closing night vibes for all.
-
From DR John:
The girls in the audience thought it was the second coming of the Beatles or a young Frank Sinatra. They screamed so loudly that my ears hurt. Then they screamed even louder.
I'm reading the post and enjoying them. I have much to do today and wasn't planning on commenting. This one is just too funny. :))
-
$400 :o
-
George the owl is also very nice.
-
I especially enjoyed reading that the Rodzinski kids loved the Louvre.
-
DR Rodzinski I never doubted that your children would not be polite and well behaved. I remembered how surprised I was my the reaction to my children's behavior when I figured all children should be taught the same manners.
-
From Rodzinski:
I just took a photo of a fashion advertisement in the terminal and a French policeman made me delete it from my phone. He was nice about it. But made sure I deleted it from my trash even. This was over by check-in, so maybe more strict there.
This is interesting. I'm glad he was polite about it, and I'm sure you were nice as well which helped.
-
Pavlova isn't my favorite but I won't say no to it. I believe it is popular in the UK.
Your evening sounds fun, DR Jrand74. Mr. Big Bucks.
Nice, DR George!
Saturday afternoon greetings! After staying up last night to watch Auburn eliminate Michigan from March Madness, I slept until 9:30 this morning. That’s quite late for me.
-
I also solved Wordle in 2 today!
-
DR George, it is a lotta Weill, but it's 10 down, 13 to go, according to the count of the Kurt Weill Edition.
-
I have to say I never understood the criticisms leveled at this Love Life production before it even opened. Love Life is vastly overwritten, with no recording or published score to provide a "definitive" version from the creators' viewpoint. It's also a modular show which makes it easier to plug and play scenes. The requirements for specialty performers in different numbers also influences what to leave in and what to leave out.
-
I think using the children instead of the magician worked well. It wouldn't surprise me if cutting the madrigal was intended to increase the emotional impact of Part 2 by starting off with a scene rather than a more distancing vaudeville act. The remaining acts in Part 2 seem more emotionally connected to the story, especially the restored Susan's Dream (restored from the final Broadway running order, that is.)
-
The New York Times critic thinks this sentimentalized the story too much. That critic is perhaps the first in history to call any production of Love Life too sentimental. But I understand the criticism though I disagree with it, and it's based on actually seeing the production being critiqued.
-
Now I have to get over to the Stanford Music Library to see the critical edition in print.
-
We are on the plane now inflight - they did indeed cool it down.
-
All in all, if this turns out to be the only version of Love Life I ever get to see, I'm glad it was this one. This show rests so heavily on the two stars and they were just fantastic.
Yeah. The clips show their voices are ridiculously good.
Around 1993, John McGlinn wanted to record a complete Love Life with Judy Kaye and Thomas Hampson for EMI-Angel. He had the great copyist Christine Ambrose prepare a vocal score from Weill's full scores. I never knew exactly what happened to prevent it: the Oklahoma! debacle that ended his EMI contract or EMI's insistence to only record one CD of excerpts. I have one of the copies of Christine's vocal score, and I suspect it may be the source for the newly published score. I'll find out when my copy of the new score arrives. To finish off his contract, John did record a nice chunk of Love Life and The Firebrand of Florence on Hampson's "Kurt Weill on Broadway" album for EMU.
I love that Hampson CD! The critical report credits John Baxindine with the piano/vocal score. Joel Galand was the editor. You can find the introduction and critical notes at the Kurt Weill Edition site:
Home from the hills. Time for a nap.
I hope it was a good trip.
-
This is a first for me. Boarding has been delayed because the plane is too hot.
Our boarding was also delayed due to a maintenance issue. And it was
hot! But then it got cold as we flew over the far north.
-
Now we are home and the house is still here, checking off my last item on my list of fears when traveling.
-
I was tired but every time I dozed on the plane, I awoke with a jolt. Don’t know why.
-
So I watched four movies, and here is that rundown, spread over 4 posts.
-
Edge of Tomorrow.
I’d heard this was a good Tom Cruise sci-fi Groundhog Day. And it was engrossing enough. Emily Blunt was good.
-
Napoleon.
Having now a taste for French history, this seemed like a good idea. It was well made. Joaquin seemed fine, dedicated. Kinda never really got what made him tick though. Meh. But informative.
-
Purple Noon
Always wanted to see this the first adaptation of the Mr Ripley source material. Such lovely Italian scenery. Sumptuous.
-
See How They Run
This was a surprise delight you mystery fans must know but it was new to me. A mystery within a mystery during the 100th performance of Mousetrap. Lots of fun from a game cast.
-
Sam Rockwell tends to be an enjoyable actor. The girl who played his constable partner was quite good too.
Welcome home DR Rodzinski!
Kind of. We only turn on the hot water when we really need it. We had to empty the hose for our water softener and turn that off. We always turn the water off when we leave town so, as long as no one above us floods us, we should be fine while we are gone.
-
I’ve never seen any Die Hard films.
This really isn't the best time to be taking this trip. I am trying to prepare myself that planned stops might not happen.
The Choir of Westminster Cathedral, London, was quite remarkable. It was worth the drive.
But we had to drive back 1.5 hours through what I can only call a monsoon. That was nerve wracking.
Good night, all.
Back from a good show but not as tight as last night and therefore not as many laughs, although they had them at the top of the show, and then the slow cue pick-ups and fumfering and that makes the audience uncomfortable - they did have great reaction to the songs. It's a lesson everyone has to learn - every audience is different, but if you are slow or you fumfer they just won't laugh sa much. Hopefully, our sold out matinee will be back to being sharp.
So, tonight, I worked the till for one of the (paid) bartenders (who can serve mixed drinks) for a Queen tribute band called Mercury Rising.
-
Except for the guitarist who's from Tacoma, all of the rest are from Olympia, and I know a couple of them.
-
They are all VERY good musicians and singers!
-
There were over 600 tickets presold!
-
I didn't hear what the final count was, but everyone there had a great time.
-
The opening act was local guy Sam Miller (https://www.sammillercomedy.com/), up and coming stand-up comic who performs all over the country.
-
He performed a half hour and then the show proper started.
-
We were told that the band's first set would be a half hour and then there would be a 20 minute intermission, but the band played about an hour and 20 first act, then had the intermission.
-
No one was sad that the first set went longer than expected.
-
They really are good performers, but they didn't impersonate Queen at all.
-
Their band was lead singer, another guy singer, a girl singer (none of these three played instruments), a girl singer/keyboard player, guitar, bass, drums.
-
What the HELL is this page six malarkey?
Not very sporting.
