Given all the news yesterday, some of you may have missed this:

Melania actually wore FLATS!! That's right. She boarded the plane out of DC in her usual stilettos (and designer suit), but landed in Florida wearing wearing flats and an almost-muumuu. Quite a transformation. Does this mean a new Melania is in the works?

Her new lover prefers her to wear flats.

BK, did I miss you talking about THE PROM?  Did you really hate the film?

It is quarter to midnight, so it is probably a finish, as well.

No viewing tonight. Muse Margaret called and loved the final batch of pages up until the final two, which she HATED. Very similar to her reaction to the final chapter of Rewind. She said she thought maybe it was her and I should have someone else look at it, but I just kept hammering away at her to get to the root of the problem and once we did I saw exactly why she was so bothered by it. We talked it through, figured out how to fix it, and she went and ate dinner while I fixed it. It's funny to me, but it involved rewriting one long speech and adjusting the half-page that follows it. And doing that changed the entire tone and feeling of the ending and she was so right about it. And then I wrote a two page additional chapter, which I'd thought about doing originally and my initial instinct was right. Then I read her the changes and she loved it - left her feeling good and our protagonist remained true to himself. And that's why she's the Muse.

Very good news, BK!

The other night I decided I would try watching THE BOYS IN THE BAND.  After all, in March it will be 51 years ago when I saw the original Off-Broadway production and hated every minute of it.

What did you think of the new version?

I made it a little more than a third through the film, before I had to shut it off. I thought the cast was very good, as was the original cast, but I just think the play is horrible.

I've listened to the original cast album, but couldn't get through the whole thing, either.  They all just seemed to be so mean...of course, I was listening with 21st century sensibilities.

Back in the Sixties there was all this speculation of whether Edward Albee had actually written WHO’s AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF to be played by four men.  Of course, that is totally stupid, if for no other reason of Martha and George’s son.

The whole idea is ridiculous.  Henry Fonda and Richard Burton tried to mount an all-male version, but Albee refused to allow it.

Wasn't there supposed to be a regional production where I think they wanted to cast black man as George and his estate wouldn't allow that, either. :o

I don't think that they wanted an all black cast, if I remember correctly...which, of course, could be muddled. ::)

Maybe that should be 52 years.  It was 1969.
