Jane - My conference will be in Atlanta this year, Oct. 7 & 8, but maybe I could schedule vacation before or after and spend a couple of days in NY.

Our discussion of The Kite Runner was one of the best we've had in a long time.  We even continued talking about the book after the cheesecake was served - usually the serving of refreshments detracts us from the book and we just chit chat about other things.  This one made quite an impression on everybody.  One of our members brought information about a humanitarian project called Afghans for Afghans:

Last I knew Derek was fighting to survive in a flood.
Unfortunately, the flood was winning.  It was in his laundry.

LOL.  Then he has returned from his trip?  Was it Hobart?

I have decided to give up on Bollywood movies...I am never going to watch them again...not even the John Abraham movies. I think I will donate all my DVDs to charity.

DR George, I really, really, really enjoyed the CD's.  Thank you so very, very, very much.   :)  You know I loved the Christmas Concert.  I only wish he had sung, "I Was Born To Love You".

You're very welcome!  I'm glad you enjoyed them!  I knew that you would! ;D ;D

There is a commercail running on the TV right now ..William Shatner singing about the show currently running on  "Spike TV" where he and a few minions went to a small town and preteneded the were going to make a movie and use the locals as actors.  Am I the only one sick and tired of these mean spirited shows?

An understatement!

François de Paris you have truly impressed me with your grasp of the Japanese language.  ;D

Elmore we haven’t watched Shaun of the Dead yet.  I will let Keith know what you said.  Thanks.

Danise I wonder if we can get a group rate at The Muse.

Ginny I’m saving the dates.  I call for my appointment several months in advance so there will be plenty of time to plan.

We had a good time trying to communicate with whoever was in it.  Someone had paper and wrote things like, “Drinks?”, “Food?” and “TP NEEDED!!” then pressed them to the window.

Ypu missread, dear Danise, you missread!

It was "CP NEEDED!"; yes, it WAS! ;)

Ginny the Afghans for Afghans is very clever.

We serve food & talk before beginning our meetings.  The exception is our pot-luck lunch in September.

Just watched 2 episodes of the new "Office" on CNBC. Not as bad as I feared. Kinda funny, and yet Steve Carrel is a bit exhausting to watch. This was true of Ricky Gervaise as well, but it seems Carrel is more extreme. Some good laffs though.

DR George wrote earlier:

"
In my DVD player:  "The Incredibles"  I also got this from the library...unfortunately, it's full-frame.  When I buy it, I'll get the widescreen version."

Definiitely you will want the widescreen version since it was composed in the wide-wide 2.35:1 aspect ratio (akin to Cinemascope and Panavision). Very few animated films of any kind have ever opted for this widest of formats.

I'm assuming Pixar didn't pan and scan the original film to get the full frame release but rather recomposed it in the computer for full frame monitors. I know they did this with A BUG'S LIFE and some others of their films, so the full frame will probably be OK. But seeing that wide image done so beautifully is really an awesome experience.

I liked the pilot episode of THE OFFICE last week which was a direct port of the British version. All of the other episodes are not adaptations of Gervais' scripts for the original shows but rather original American scripts.

I thought the one this week was as funny and as viewer-reaction uncomfortable as any of the British episodes. (The topic was on diversity training, and the clueless boss is insulting to everyone of every persuasion without meaning to be.) I laughed a lot and cringed quite a bit at his well meaning foolishness.

Office- Yes, it's the laugh-cringe factor. It can get tiring, and by that I don't mean tiresome, but physically, watching two of them back to back wore me out!

Someone was in the beer can? Only in Tampa!

Oh, gosh, sure! Even the originals I had to see spaced out. You get laugh-shudder overload with too much at a time.

I saw that the ratings weren't good on Tuesday, but it is a compatible series with SCRUBS retaining almost all of the audience right before it. SCRUBS has already been renewed for next season. I think THE OFFICE might get another season as a mate for SCRUBS, and I've already sent NBC an e-mail suggesting they try the shows on early Monday night opposite the 8-9 p.m. CBS comedies which are much weaker rated than the shows they have to face on Tuesday night. I think JOEY and WILL & GRACE could move to Monday night and benefit too, and move FEAR FACTOR and LAS VEGAS to Tuesday 8-10.

So, I go do an errand.  I'm driving down a small alley south of Ventura Blvd. heading to Whitsett.  On my left a little ways down I see a man, a woman, a boy whol looks around six or seven, and several dogs.  Now, it is impossible to drive down this alley fast because, with all the recent rains, there are huge potholes all along the way.  I get closer to the man, and suddenly he starts yelling at me, "Slow down, for chrissakes!  Slow down!"  Well, those who know me well will know that I immdiately slammed on my brakes and rolled down my window and said, "Excuse me?  I can't drive any slower!"  He walks in my direction and says, "There's a fifteen mile speed limit!"  I say, "Yeah, so tell someone who's driving over fifteen, because I just happened to be looking at my speedometer and I was going nine. "  He says, "Yeah?"  I said, "Yeah, you stupid moron - a) I live in this neighborhood, and b) I don't care to rip up my tires on these potholes, which are as big as your mouth."  He walked away muttering obscenities under his breath, while his four dogs roamed without leashes.  What a twit.

Wow, be careful BK...in Salem, Oregon, USA, an exchange like that would very more then likely have ended with the dog walking family pulling out a gun!!

The mailman brought a couple of DVDs for my viewing pleasure today...from our own DR Rodzinski!

Now I have Arch Hall Jr. starring in THE NASTY RABBIT, and Rodzinski starring in RAGE OF THE WEREWOLF...Does DR Rodzinski play a "woof" man?? We shall soon find out! LOL!

My Arch Hall Jr. viewing may have to wait a few weeks, however, as my dance card seems to be filling up and I will be lucky to get much of anything watched! It is turning into a busy weekend!
