Well, the Seattle Storm women's basketball team (whose game I took my niece to last night) won! They were losing big time at the half-time ("intermission" in theater lingo

) but scored 53 points in the second half to win 79-69! The only reason I bring this up is because after the game, we went to Tower Records (in their brand new Seattle location) and I bought four (count 'em, FOUR) CDs!! The original Broadway cast recordings of Spamalot and The Light in the Piazza, and two CDs by Susan Egan! I love her. One is her "Coffee House" CD. Donald has played a couple of songs from this CD on his radio show. The other is called "all that & more" (in lower case). It's a compilation CD of tracks that Susan has previously recorded plus two songs that she has not recorded before. But the best part is that ALL of the tracks are produced by our very own BK! AND three of the tracks are orchestrated by our very own elmore!! Pretty darned cool! The three tracks that Larry did are the two new tracks, "More" (from "Dick Tracy") and "Joshua Noveck" (she admits to out and out stealing this song from BK's "Broadway Bound" CD) and "You Can Fly/I'm Flying" from BK's "Cinderella" compilation CD. I'll try and listen to all of these this weekend.

In other news, I have to finish catching up on the posts from yesterday (I'm up to 149), then I have to leave to house-sit. Actually, I should be there right now, but I'm not...I'm at my home catching up on the posts from yesterday.

This afternoon (if we can get tickets), I may go with my friend Margo to see "Star Wars III." Before and after that, I'll be at the house I'm house-sitting.

"Trapeze" was always a favourite of mine and as a kid I thought "Greatest Show on Earth" was wonderful.
I also loved "The Flying Fontaines" which is not listed by Maltin.
"Carny" was an interesting movie too.

Best yet though is the TV production "Carnivale".

Of course "Lili" is right up there as a sentimental favourite too.

Yes, "More" is a chart of Lanny's. I didn't even know of this album's existence. Can I bill for a second usage for reusing tracks with another singer? Get me Perry Mason!

I'm off to the recording office for a few hours, then the post office for a few packages. After that, I don't know.

As I kid I loved "Trapeze," some circus film with David Nelson whose title I forget, and "The Greatest Show on Earth," but it's been too long to have an opinion.

Look For a Star - I now have at least 5 versions but have never seen the film.

Maybe Nelson was in the Flying Fontaines. I remember in something aboout a circus.

Yep, DUMBO for me. So many of the other films come to a grinding halt to feature the circus acts, and I just get bored. I'm sure it was entertaining for audiences at the time, but I'm not a great fan of the circus anyway, so seeing those acts just bores me.

Yes, as I've mentioned several times on the forum in the last couple of weeks, I really love NIGHTMARE ALLEY. Haven't seen it in awhile, and reading the DVD announcement a month or so ago just got me giddy with excitement.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY.....scary stuff....Tyrone and Joan were great!

I too haven't gotten the answer yet...my first few guesses also collapsed, but I have not given up!

David Nelson was in TWO circus movies. In THE BIG SHOW starring Miss Esther Williams and Mr Cliff Robertson he was an American serviceman who fell in love with the daughter of someone involved in the show. HOWEVER in the second one THE BIG CIRCUS, an Irwin Allen Production starring VIctor Mature and Rhonda Fleming, David was a trapeze artist with Gilbert Roland. David turned out to be the person sabotaging the circus - with red herrings like Peter Lorre and Vincent Price thrown in - and was in tights a lot, and finally died when he jumped into the crowd while being chased by the police.

THE BIG CIRCUS and THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH are two of my favorite circus/carnival movies. Along with, of course BERSERK and CIRCUS OF HORRORS,

Well, since I'm taking the subway in today, I have to head out a little earlier. There's just too many people in town during the Memorial Day weekend to "risk" driving in. And driving around the block umpteen times waiting and looking for a parking space lost it's charms years ago.

Between shows, I'm either having dinner with my friend, Jose - yes, another Jose - or with the "black shirt brigade" - a.k.a. the pit musicians from Mamma Mia! and Big River. Or both. We shall see.

DR JRand - Which costumes did you have in mind? The finale outfits are starting in the four-figure range apparently, so... Low four-figures, but still four figures.
