Jose, when you were talking about former cast members

And it always amazes me the people who were in that original cast in ensemble roles:  Paul Binotto (a frequent Plaid), Phylicia Ayers-Allen (TV's Mrs. Cosby), David Thome (A Chorus Line alum), Brenda Braxton (she was a swing), Cheryl Alexander, Brenda Pressley, Charles Randolph-Wright (who is now a writer and director), etc., etc., etc...

I kept thinking, these people weren't in Annie!!! Then I realized which show you were referring to...never mind!

Here it is!

This magazine cover is my favorite Tom and Katie reference.

I started to type more, but I think it's best not to get started.  I have some strong views on Mr. Cruise and his opinions about psychiatry.  Just ask Rodzinski, he's heard all about it and at great length.  :)

DR Ben,
I wonder if that is the same Brenda Braxton that is a newscaster on our Channel 8 news in Portland! I adore her, and I know she has done some stage work.

My Annie cast:
Annie: Dakota Fanning

I was going to cast Miss Fanning as Annie, also, but then I thought that she would be good in the role.  For that matter, she could probably pull off Miss Hannigan, Mary Tyrone and Medea without a sweat.

Watch MTV come out with Annie: The Hip Hop Musical.

Well, they've already got "Hard Knock Life" as a start.  The day somebody does a cover of "We'd Like to Thank You, Herbert Hoover," I'll... I'll... the very idea is too disturbing to even finish my sentence.

In hopefully-not-so-wrong-headed casting news, I've already heard back from last night's audition (how I love directors who don't take ages to make their decisions), and I will be playing Jack Chesney in Charley's Aunt.  We start rehearsals next Wednesday, opening night on Sept. 9th.  Guess it can be useful to have your lone schedule conflict be callbacks. :D

Question for BK:  When I upload a CD to myPod, iTunes does an automatic grab for track information from a website called Gracenote CDDB.  How does this info initially get out there?  Did you or someone with Kritzerland contact Gracenote and supply the track info for the new releases?  Did an anonymous someone out there inadvertantly upload the info because he or she was the first one to play the CD through iTunes?  Just curious.

I'm dismayed that Colleen Gray will not be there.  I am hoping Caroline Munro will be there.

I've held Maggie Ray's special Oscar and I've touched Chuck Heston's.  I've also seen his "rod of god", the Moses staff, from The Ten Commandments.

The Mark Taper has all their Tonys and Awards displayed under glass in their miniscule foyer.

Ginny, Cincinnati Playhouse-in-the-Park is one of my favourite regional theatres.  Spent many a happy hour seeing theatre there.  I think it's a great venue.   I was sort of an habitue of the place when Word Baker was Artistic Director.  Got to know him slightly when he attended some theatre conferences when we were in college.

And here is Portland's KGW Channel 8 Brenda Braxton:

Brenda Braxton can be seen weekdays on KGW Northwest NewsChannel 8 @ Sunrise with co-anchor Russ Lewis and on NewsChannel 8 @ Noon.

Brenda came to the Northwest from WAFB-TV (CBS) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1989 where she served as the evening anchor and medical/health reporter.

She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from the University of Portland and a Master of Journalism Degree from Louisiana State University.

In her spare time, Brenda enjoys gardening and interior design. She and her husband have a son and a daughter.

Who is/was Maggie Ray and what was her special Oscar for?

Since Mr. Pogue is off line at the moment, allow me to answer in his stead.

Maggie Ray is Martha Raye. Pogue worked with her and they became friends. She received the the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 1968 Oscar telecast.

How 'bout an HHW gathering on Monday, October 3?  Danise will already be in town, I think, and my flight is due in at 12:30pm.

It's good for me.

I guess Jose didn't see my question of yesterday.

Yes, Dear Friend BK, he made an oblique reference to it on one of his posts yesterday.

Just had lunch at Donovan's which is said to serve the best hamburger in NYC. It was good. The best? Hard to say. It was sized very well, not just a giant ball of ground beef... I will have to make weekly visits until I can say whether it is the best or not.

A fine day for mail!
I received from the illustrious Tomovoz a package of delightful CDs.
One disk features well-known instrumentals followed by less well-known versions with words. Can't wait to hear "Telstar" with words.

One disk is themed entirely on Twisting songs,
One disk is classic "dead girl" type songs, like "Tell Laura I Love Her"
And one is movie themes.

Many thanks, Tomovoz!!!

I am also disappointed about Colleen Gray not attending the show this weekend....I loved her in THE LEECH WOMAN and in PHANTOM PLANET!

Of course, other DRs may know her from slightly higher class films! LOL!
