Corn was quite yummy.  I cooked it for eight minutes rather than six, which seemed to work just fine.  I much preferred the white corn to the yellow - better flavor and crunch.  Didn't overdo the butter, either.  The lovely thing about an ear of corn is that it has a mere 75 calories and no fat.

Despite my preference for low humour and cheap jokes I do not care for corn at all.

Only in the last decade or so has the cinema industry here been invaded by the smell of pop corn which I also don't like much. One of my reasons for not going to the cinema in to avoid the smell. I don't really understand why people find it necessary to eat quanties of pop corn and candy and drink large quantities of sweetened coloured water as part of their movie going experience. I guess they do it at home watching TV too. Ah!  Old age and intolerance.

Mmm, corn.  I had the best corn on the cob I ever had at the West Bank Cafe on Friday night.  Quite to our surprise, our little neighborhood restaurant had become an expensive little joint.  But the corn on the cob side dish, with three beautifully skewered mini-ears, was only $4.

Still, the service was great.  Just strange to see a place where we used to get a great meal for two for under $25 now have the minimum entree price of $19.  But it was good corn!

Entree!! I've never coped with that useage either. A dish served BEFORE the main course.  How did it ever get to be the main course?

Corn, entrees and tips:  I am indeed an Alien.

Speaking of corn:  Anyone else notice that the cereal that used to be known as Sugar Pops are now known as Corn Pops.  But if I'm not mistaken, it seems to be excatly the same thing.

And DR Tomovoz:  They're now selling all sorts of candy and drinks in the aisles at some Broadway theaters as well!   At Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, they were even hawking ice cream.  This is not so fine if you're sitting in a cramped theater seat next to someone having a three-course dessert during the second act.   So far, I haven't seen (or smelled) smelly popcorn at the theater, but I have a feeling that's next.

Corn on the cob!  Messy and yummilicious.  However, I always overdo the butter and salt.

Watching ALEXANDER even as we speak.  Many of the same reservations as DR CP.  But I like the score.....and since this is one of my FAVORITE genres, it's nice to see it on a BIG scale.  My feelings about Colin Farrell aren't quite as strong as some others - so he is okay in my book.  Not exactly Alexander - but okay.

I am enjoying the movie, and ordered the Van Gelis soundtrack as well.  I like the MUSIC.

We all have limits - and I hate to reach mine - but I did today - and expressed myself in no uncertain terms about what I thought about certain situations.  Then went on with the work.

DR FJL - frightening.  I have no problem with drink etc being consumed at the interval - but not in the theatre. I am more used the theatres where there is there sufficient room for a bar etc if people feel the need for refreshments.  I know most New York theatres were not built like those in London (or here in Oz).
Of course I don't like theatre restaurants either. They don't satisfy on either level. (but they certainly are popular so what do I know?)

Had to share:
A precious little girl walks into a pet shop and asks, in the sweetest
little lisp, between two missing teeth, "Excuthe me, mithter, do
you keep widdle wabbits?" As the shopkeeper's heart melts,! he gets down
on his knees so that he's on her level and asks, "Do you want a widdle
white wabbit, or a thoft and fuwwy bwack wabbit, or maybe one like that
cute widdle bwown wabbit over there?" She, in turn, blushes, rocks on
her heels, puts her hands on her knees, leans forward and says, in a tiny
quiet voice, "I don't think my python weally gives a thit.

Tomovoz, you could never be offensive!

Ginny, we will be around the area of Commerce Township/Walled Lake. It's where my cousin lives. It's a small family reunion. I mentioned a long while ago that my brother was in Iraq for 18 months. He came back in Februrary and instead of having a party in Minnesota (where he lived) the large family decided that a get together in Michigan would be more fun. There are seven McLaughlin children and 5 of us were born in Michigan (Delray General Hospital). We lived in Lincoln Park and Wyandotte and then moved to Minnesota. I spent most of my growing up time in Minnesota so I consider myself more from Minnesota than Michigan but we have a large group of relatives (cousins and uncles and aunts) who have lived their entire lives in the Detroit area. My grandparents lived in River Rouge and Ecorse and my parents grew up in those cities. Much of my older family worked at the Rouge Ford plant. One of my uncles now lives on Harsen's Island and an aunt still lives in Riverview. I also have good friends in Ann Arbor. One is a nurse and another works for the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. A2 is a great place. I've visited a few times and loved it.

We just had a wonderful Mud Chocolate Cake and big glasses of milk. I turned on the air conditioner and we are relaxing with books listening to Johnny Mathis. It's been a quiet but lovely day.

Later, gaters.

Good Evening!

Well, I had a lovely nap.  -Someday, I hope to actually get some more reading done.

I kept listening to spaceagepop.com...  I think some of those selections gave me some bad dreams.  Very weird, bordering on scary - movie scary, if you get my drift.  And I'm pretty sure this one was one of a continuing series of weird dreams.  Who knows?  Maybe I'm dreaming in "episodes" now.

So, still a bit groggy, but the sun is still setting... Maybe I'll head outside for a bit just to get some air....

DR MattH - Rosena Hill just started as Sara Ramirez' stand-by a few weeks ago.  She was actually in that Understudies concert I went to at Ars Nova where she performed her second act number.  At that point and time she mentioned that she had not gone on yet, but was scheduled to go in a few weeks due to some vacation/conflict.  I guess you caught one of her first times on stage in the role.

And I didn't realize that James Ludwig was standing by for that show!  He's one of my favorite people!  Just such a nice guy.  Great performer.  Wonderful voice.  -And very cute too.  I still have fond memories of him running around the actor's house at Olney in his bathing trunks... But I digress.  Thanks for the info/report/review.  ;)

I know a disembodied body speaking from a burning bush has worked int he past. Maybe that was considered tacky for speaker placement.

Well, better than that burning bush in last summer's craptacular, The Ten Commandments: The New Spectacle Musical".  That bush didn't even talk.  Just sort of flickered.

What a lovely (Surprise) guest to have with you for your anniversary. Chances are he may sing for you.
I don't think I would be bothered much with the books at this time but each to his own. Have a Wonderful Wonderful evening.

Perhaps... there's... something you don't know...  mwahahahahahaha.

I know this will sound very corny, but I suddenly got a craving for corn.  Yes, Virginia, I got a craving for corn, so I bought me some ears of corn - two white, one yellow.  What is the difference betwixt them?  I'm boiling water now - I've been told to insert the corn into the boiling water for six count them six minutes.  Does that sound right?

Sounds good. The best corn is called either Peaches and Cream or Candy Corn, it's white and yellow

Six minutes?  or sixty seconds?  It all depends how fresh your corn is, and how much "bite" you like in it.  Some purists will have you keep the corn in the husks, and only put it in the boiling water just long enough to bring some heat into the kernels, not to really cook it.  30 seconds, 60 seconds tops.  And if you take off the husks, then sometimes shorter than that,  "Just keep holding ear of corn by one end, plunge it into the boiling water, count to 10, take out of the water, enjoy immediately."

Frankly, I don't mind "overcooked"  corn on the cob.  That's basically what I grew up on.  And sometimes my parents would add some milk to the water.  And unlike fried chicken, I actually like cold corn-on-the-cob.

As for yellow vs. white - The white varieties tend to be sweeter.  They're bred that way - white=sugar, sugar=sweetness - at least in the standard consumer mind, if you get my drift.  However, I tend to find some varieties of yellow corn to have more of a "corny" flavor.  But that could just be due to the impression due to the color.

Ok, I have to do this

We're from Iowa, Iowa
That's where the tall corn grows.

You'd think we could come up with a better state song that that!

You are not mistaken.  Yes, Sugar Pops is now Corn Pops - An attempt to make them more "healthy".  Sugar Smacks have gone the same route, they're now just called "Smacks".  However, I believe the Kellogg's frog is still around.

Alas, the West Bank Cafe decided to go "upscale" a few years ago - especially at dinner.  -The lunch menu is still somewhat reasonable, although some of the specials will sometimes be as much as $10 more than the highest priced item on the regular menu.

When I would head up to NYC with Olney Theatre for auditions - usually at the "old" John Houseman - that was our lunch spot.  The Westway Diner was our breakfast spot.  Alas, both dining establishments are no longer the bargains they used to be.  -I was particularly "shocked" at the pricing at Westway a few weeks ago - it seems that the whole breakfast menu had gone a la carte.

*Have you tried the new French place next door - Bistro du Vent?  It's quite good - if a bit "hip" right now, and there are some relative bargains to be found there.
