In the DVD player “The Lady Vanishes” which I’m about to return to.  It sure feels good to be sitting. Good night.

Just wanted to mention that I looked at the "fairly new" DVD of THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD tonight. Overall good transfer though some scenes were out of focus; don't understand why they can get most of it so sharp and then have a few shots that are not. The color was lush without being oversaturated (a danger with early three strip Technicolor).

I guess I was most surprised that in his introduction, Leonard Maltin didn't comment on the identity of the solo girl singer in the big band short. It's Nan Wynn who served as Rita Hayworth's voice double in MY GAL SAL and COVER GIRL.

BK, I saw that VALLEY OF THE DOLLS miniseries. Terrible and not the least bit campy like the 1967 film, so it has NOTHING going for it.

Just finished watching the Kennedy Center  Honors. Julie Andrews even sang a little. The voice is a big improvement over the last time I heard her sing. Maybe she can play Madame Armfelt in A little Night Music now

Too bad Patric Knowles didn't have a bigger career in Hollywood. He was very handsome (taller than Errol Flynn when they stood side-by-side), a fine actor, and the camera seemed to like him. I certainly liked him!  :)

The Cast for Beyond the Valley of the Dolls

Cast overview, first billed only:
Dolly Read ....  Kelly McNamara

Every one of these is a horror. I am NOT one of those people who find BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS a camp riot. I just find it tedious and gross. Maybe I've never seen it with the right audience.

Danise you sound like my son in Romania.  I hope you at least have little electric heaters like he does.  Do you have hot water?  ;) He has to boil water.  It takes him about an hour and a half to fill a bathtub with hot water so he can bathe or wash clothes.

My mother still tells stories of her trip to romania. She was told to bring a bath stopper because apparently her hotel didn't have one! She keeps talking about going back there one day.

So is Patty Duke really the mother of a hobbit?

We were talking last night about Raquel Welch possibly doing a screen test for Jennifer in VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (or at least of her being considered for it, which I'm sure she was). I have those two DVDs of Fox screen tests, and I need to see if there's one on there of Raquel as Jennifer. I've watched it, but it's been awhile and I honestly can't remember. I remember that Sharon Tate's screen test is on one of the discs (the scene with Tony in the freezing park), but she's SO much better in the film than in the screen test.

DR George, I don't know, I have heard that term before though. All I know is that I have never seen anyone in Montreal who has one. Although apparently in DR Emily's neck of the woods everyone has them :)

I know my area is far to declasse to have something like that.

And Jennifer, dear, I hope things with thatman get better :(

Mark and THEGIRL.... sniff.. you broke my heart.

For the longest time Sam Astin was rumored to be Lucille Ball's grandson, but turned out to be that Michael Tell was his father who Patty was married to for a month when she was in one of her manic depressive moments.

Now that is confusing! Is Sean Astin the son of Patty Duke and John Astin? The Michael Tell (?) reference means nothing to me.

Sean Astin biological father was Michael Tell. John Astin adopted him when he was 3 years old. Desi Arnez Jr. is not his father

However Mackenzie Astin's father is an Astin and his mother is a Duke

Which reminds me when I have seen reruns of the old "game show" Tattletales its interesting to see how many married couples are no longer married.  My favorite couple was Dick Sargeant and Fannie Flagg who could get one question right. looking back it is not hard to understand why.

Thanks Michael. Now I think I've got it. The Desi reference explains the Ball reference. I had read neither before - hence my confusion. We adopted children have an interests in such lives. (the "We" refers to another Kimlet and myself of course).

Now if I can establish that Lucille Ball was a Welsh miner then she could be the mother of Michael.

...I have just found who the parents are of Sam in LOTR. It never occured to me that these people could give birth to a hobbit - and my favourite character too. No names in case there is anyone else out there is as ignorant as I am.
Can we mention that Daddy has worked for Jackson, too?

I like those screen test DVDs. Had some interesting screen tests for THE SOUND OF MUSIC (Mia Farrow going for Leisl) and Judy Garland's wardrobe tests for DOLLS. Raquel Welch is on it testing for a part in OUR MAN FLINT (which she didn't get). Besides Sharon Tate's DOLLS test, it also has one of Patty Duke's tests for the movie. Walter Matthau testing for THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH.

I'd like lots more, of course, but they're OK.

Fred Karlin did the music for the 1981 miniseries Jacqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls with Catherine Hicks as Anne, Jean Simmons as Helen, Veronica Hamel as Jennifer, and Lisa Hartman as Neely.  Bert Convy was Tony, David Birney was Lyon, and James Coburn was Henry Bellamy.
Mrs. Clint Black was Neely?!?
