William Orr has it right. NYC, rents are outrageous, most everything is expensive, but, by god, you can still make a pay phone call for 25 cents!

Where do you find Pay Phones?  I see them in airports, but they've disappeared from the streets here.

Everyone is walking around with cell phones.

Still have payphones here. Down in the subways where cellphones don't work. And on street corners.

Wow! Some many posts. So little time. I sat down tonight and tried to watch tv. what waste land. There was nothing to watch of any quality. IMHO.

I admire MH finding enough programs to watch during the week. I no longer have the patience.

Let's try a rewrite...
So, I'm reveling in the beauties of Nature at her Absolute and Perfect BEST...
Rewrite: "So, I'm rivaling the beauties of Nature at her Absolute and Perfect BEST..."

Much better!

You're the first person I know to encounter the Naked Cowboy!

When I asked if anyone saw the Pale Male, I meant the hawk.

I forgot all about that pale male, guess I got distracted by the Naked Cowboy!

North by Northwest!

Starring Grant, Saint, and... Mason Williams?

(He was very disappointed when the sequence where a car was to be assembled in Detroit, and at the end the door of the finished car was to be opened revealing a dead body inside.  He was hoping it would have "Classical Gas" as the background music, but it wasn't to be.)

Hey, there are FAR worse things in this world than an addiction to quality television programming.

I has spoken.  :D

Hilarious Naked Cowboy pictures, Cillaliz!

Thanks! Someone was filming him and he kept stopping to pose with women. He wasn't even asking for tips, so I had to join in!

I might need to go down to Best Buy tomorrow...I forgot that the Val Lewton films were all released on DVD this week...although I will likely only pick up THE CAT PEOPLE and CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE.

I didn't know they were selling the films separately. I thought you could only get them in the box. Great news!

Well, DR Michael Shayne, you didn't exactly pick the prime night of the week for television. In fact, only Saturday night is worse.

I myself gave up on THRESHOLD. I've been reading some good reviews of it this week after I had decided after last week's show to abandon it, and tonight, I was busy with something else so I guess I really have dropped it from my viewing schedule.

In fact, I watched NO network TV tonight.

You can get them in the box set or as double feature dvds.

Instead of network TV, I put in the Criterion enhanced version of SPARTACUS. Thoroughly enjoyed the film, and it looked very nice indeed though I found the Technicolor rather variable throughout. The scenes with Kirk Douglas and Jean Simmons after they're reunited and also later on when she tells him she's pregnant had that usual deep saturation Technicolor is known for. Elsewhere, the color (flesh tones especially) seemed sometimes a bit washed out.

Enjoyed hearing Alex North's score very expansive in Dolby 5.1 sound, and oh, boy did John Gavin have a gorgeous body in that spa scene. I had to repeat certain sections of that to see that again. I know he showed his fine upper body in the first scene in PSYCHO, too, but this was in color and Super Panavision 70!

Today I started the book THE MAN WHO INVENTED ROCK HUDSON about the infamous gay talent agent Henry Willson.

I thought about you, DR MBarnum when Cal Bolder's name came up. He was Willson's client once upon a time along with many, many others.
