THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE THE THURSDAY
« on: January 18, 2006, 12:07:58 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, you now know it's the Wednesday after the Tuesday before the Thursday and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which might be on the Monday after the Sunday before the Saturday prior to the Tuesday before the Wednesday - or, the 12th.  Of Never.

bk - in your notes you said you must "take the day" - be sure to bring it back.  Just today, I told the DP that I was going to take a shower and if he was nice, I'd bring it back.  He said "huh?"    If you can muster the energy, don't miss the Brokeback Mtn. screening.  I know a lot of us are waiting your take on the film.  Just bring it back :)

And, in honor of Pogue's birthday, we shall add sweet gherkins to our repast of cheese slices and ham chunks.

Up.

Getting liquids.

Dry, dry, dry.

And in the first throes of a full-blown head cold.

I tried not to get it.

Yes, I tried not to.

But here it is.

Truly.

It IS.

And yucky.

Still dry.

Parched.

Sere.

My thirst is voracious.

Unquenchable.

And the water just sits there in my stomach.

Sloshing when I move.

Gurgling a bit.

Where is absorption when you need it?

An aside to DR CP:

What can you tell me about a dish known as a Kentucky Hot Brown?

I understand that it is an open-faced sandwich, with roast turkey and bacon served atop toast, all covered with a cheese sauce.  Does this sound familiar?

Do I have a fever?

Feed a cold and starve a fever, right?

But the idea of that otherwise delectable sandwich puts me off my feedbag.

My cold doesn't want to be fed.

But my temperature seems okay, too.

Maybe it's the time of day.

I should return to bed.  I've a late shift today (Lost will have to be taped, I'll be getting home that late), but that's still no excuse for me to be keeping vampire hours.

Fletcher, who is lounging on a bean-bag chair right behind me, sends everyone his love and kisses.

Doggie kisses.

That's the ticket.

Good night, S. Woody.

My bed beckons me, as well.

Apparently, it's named "Kentucky Hot Brown" after the Brown Hotel in Louisville (not sure, I think that's right).  I doubt they would have used that Yankee stuff called Velveeta at an establishment such as that.  Southerners do have their standards, after all (Paula Dean not being in the same class).

Good morning, all!  I missed dinner with DR Ginny and Richard last night, but we plan to catch up on Friday at Artie's.  Did anyone mention on HHW that the Second Avenue Deli has closed?  They had great food.

Today's Tams-Witmark and THE GOLDEN APPLE orchestra parts, which should be the final instalment on this show, and then it's back here to work on a Jule Styne song "Blame it on my Absent-Minded Heart" for Kelli O'Hara to record on Monday.  I hope to have it all finished by tomorrow to turn it in to the copyist and I've got 22 players for the session, which will be fine.[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!DR CHARLES EDWARD POGUE, A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Birthday to Mr. Pogue!

Thanks for the pictures Tom/Rod.

I will still be at Jury Duty today. I am in civil court so there will be no sequestering. I went yesterday at 8:45 for "orientation" Since I've done this six times in 20 years I know the drill. It was a bit of a waste.

I arrive today by 9:30am for attendance and then I wait to be called for a panel. If I don't get on a jury today I come back tomorrow (Thursday) and if I don't get put on a jury tomorrow I am done for six years. If I do get put on a jury I am there for the length of the trial. If the trial goes for more than 10 days (highly unlikely in a civil case) I will be released from Jury Duty for 8 years.

In the Jury waiting room I am reading an old (from the 1970s) bio of the Joan Bennett family called The Bennett Playbill written by Miss Bennett with the able assistance of Lois Kibbee (related to the great character actor Guy Kibbee). I also have the newspaper and other reading material.

Ginny and Fred I don't think I will be able to join you after the Barbara Cook show on Friday. I don't think I officially mentioned that. I don't want to keep you hanging so make plans without me. Sorry!

Here are a few more pictures from Dublin.

The Brazen Head is the oldest operating pub in Ireland. It has been in existence sin 1198!

We had no Christmas tree in Dublin so we went to the equivalent of the Dollar Store (the Euro Stretcher and Pound City still called that because Ireland's currency was called the Pound or the Punt until it went on the Euro) and bought cheap decorations and made our mantle look spiffy.
