Had an e-mail from the singer I was supposed to meet. Saying she'd hoped I wouldn't charge my usual fee for doing her act (my usual fee is a third of what anyone else charges, and is about to go up), and so she thought she'd have to pass. I think it was a test to see if I'd come down, but it was such a relief that I just wrote her and said, sorry no can do, good luck with your act, and nice knowing you.
I should never have said yes - I cannot do these things because of the money - it's too much work and this girl isn't good enough, and no matter how much I'm able to help her she's still not going to be good enough, because she fancies herself a "jazz singer" and she doesn't even know what that means. That, coupled with her inability to stay on pitch - well, I'm happy not to go down that road.
On the other hand, and I know this will make MBarnum and others happy - our very own Seattle gal, Miss Jessica Skerritt, has moved to LA and we'll be meeting tomorrow after I do a little vocal session with Mr. Guy Haines.
