Hello DR Elmore

I guess you've always had problems with the Prodigal Son story too!

Dear friend Tomovoz, I relive the bloomin' story every time I return to Ohio!

The funeral of the miner killed in the quake will be held today - the rescued miners will be attending.

Richard Carlton was indeed one of the best known, and at times controversial, journalists in OZ. It's a pity he will be remembered for his last question - inappropriate and the worst aspect of "Sixty Minutes" style TV journalism.

Okay, folks, my day at the library is coming to an end.   I passed up margaritas and salsa with DR Ginny and Richard because I have to be sobert tomorrow morning when I take my dad to hospital for some sort of scan.  Unless all hell breaks loose, I'll be posting tomorrow afternoon.

Did he like to tell outrageous jokes so that folks could tell him what a cartion he was?

I hate these library keyboards.  They highlight my ineptitude as a typist!

TCB, knowing your interest in the Titanic, I wondered if you have seen this news piece.

Titanic's Last American Survivor Dies at 99

By ANDREW RYAN, AP

BOSTON (May 7) - Lillian Gertrud Asplund, the last American survivor of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, has died, a funeral home said Sunday. She was 99.

Ben, yes, thank you, I did see the story in this morning's newspaper.   I never had the chance to meet Ms. Asplund.  I believe she was going to be at the reception in Boston that was cancelled when the large hull piece broke free and sank again back in 1996.  I only had the chance to meet two of the survivors of the Titanic.  Hard to believe that we are still discussing the Titanic after 94 years.  There was a period in the the Thirties and the Forties where the ship and the sinking were all but forgotten.

..............................................  her face was puffed up like it was when the yellow jacket stung her last fall...                             her right eye swollen almost competely closed and the bruise on her cheek from when she was hit by the golf club in gym on Thursday.................................... (I mentioned that, right?)                    had changed from a slight purplish shadow to a huge green, yellow and purple mark on her swollen right cheek................................she looked like the loser of a prize fight.

The Bodies exhibit was OK but it was also a little wierd. I wasn't grossed out but every so often the thought that these are real bodies just jumped into my thoughts. I didn't know this but there was some controversy over where the bodies were obtained. Apparently all the specimens are Asian. There are disclaimers all over the place that the bodies were obtained legally and treated with the utmost respect and dignity but there were comments in the guestbooks saying things like "stop stealing bodies from China" and questions like "why are all these bodies Asian and where are the women"

We had lunch at South Street Seaport afterwards and then home with a stop at the grocery store.

Glad to hear that you didn't go out for ribs, Ben.

TOD

Burns and Allen

I know this next group is more of an ensemble but I love the early years oif SNL with Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi. and others. I think Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy even did a stint on it...

Puke and Snot

I know Monty Python is more of an ensemble but I love them.. All of those guys are NUTS!

Actually, it was the late author, Walter Lord, who refocused attenition on the sinking of the Titanic with his masterpiece A NIGHT TO REMEMBER.  I am very pleased to have a leather-bound hardback edition that was personally signed by Mr. Lord.

Is anybody on the East Coast watching "David Blaine:  Drowned Alive?"  Has he drowned yet?

Jane, I always vote for books over films.  In truth, I've not seen the film, but the book is quite wonderful and rich in detail.

CP if I can get to the bookstore tomorrow, had planned to go today, I will pick up a copy or order one.  Later I can watch the movie with Keith.

Since I don’t remember Excalibur very well I added it to our NetFlix queue.
