In fact, I don't think there's anyone named Penny that I haven't loved.  That's very interesting, now that I think of it.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am that Tomovoz's illegitimate niece, Nicole Kidman, didn't receive a single nomination for anything!

Well, I was working my way through these long, long notes following a fun rehearsal which was preceded by a NOT FUN DRIVE THROUGH SNOW AND ICE, and DR TCB's (He of the gorgeous new photo) response seemed to beg for a response:

It just show to go ya that those voters at SAG are people with exquisite taste!

Actually, Jane, except for the ships sailing to the Grey Havens, we missed a big chunk of the last part of the book.  There was a chapter called "The Scourging of the Shire" in which the Hobbits return to Hobbiton and find it overrun with all sorts of disreputable characters and they have to clean everything up.  I'm hoping against hope that Jackson filmed some of that for the expanded release.

He didn't.

What you see in FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING is the only footage Jackson shot of "The Scourging of the Shire."

Well, I have liked some of Robert Altman's films and others I liked parts of more than the whole. I will also readily admit that there are quite a few I've never seen. When I see them coming up on one of the premium channels, I try to remind myself to watch it, but I usually forget. I guess I assume I'll catch up with them eventually, and that's just not true. I would most like to see SHORT CUTS which got lots of very positive reactions from folks I know. I've never managed to catch it. One day . . . .

For the most part, I have loved Altman's films.  Then you get stuff like H.E.A.L.T.H, POPEYE (yes, i recently watched it on dvd. .. and it still stinks), READY TO WEAR. . .and a few others which have thankfully been forgotten at this moment, BUT:
GOSFORD PARK
THREE WOMEN
IMAGES
CALIFORNIA SPLIT
NASHVILLE
M*A*S*H
A WEDDING
NASHVILLE
THE LONG GOODBYE
MCCABE & MRS. MILLER

Inspired casting,  insipid script and direction, though.
POPEYE is usually listed as Robin Williams' film debut, but, didn't he do a couple of indies before hand?

Speaking of Indies. . .
I remember Alfred Molina from RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.

I remember Quintet.  I wish I didn't.

Whoever thinks Paul Newman can't turn in a bad performance should see this film.  Of course, everyone else involved should be embarassed by it, as well.

No, I believe Williams had only done television prior to Popeye.  Played second banana to that Pam Dawber chick in The Adventures of Mindy.   ;)

Popeye was in '80, Garp in '82.

I was working with him at the time, and am pretty sure he did no movies before Popeye.  His second film - and it's a good one - was The World According To Garp.

Late-night denizens!  I HATE MARZIPAN.  I do like See's Dark Chocolate Nuts and Chews though.

jbelles, you just be you, no one is asking you to be anyone but you.  the fact that you are more obtuse than even the obtuse I or me is not a criticism.  It is a statement.  Here is another statement: I HATE MARZIPAN.  Be happy your statement isn't in caps.

Then of course, Newman did right with Altman in BUFFALO BILL'S HISTORY LESSON. . OR something about Bill and Sitting Bull. . .

Oh, yes, DR Tomovoz, you AND i have exquisite taste, too!  Kennedy is a major player in this house. . .
