Good morning!

It's raining here but not especially cold. Looks like it's going to be a gray day all around these parts.

JRand, I checked the programme and Gaunt has listed the CHAMPIONS in his bio, so I assume it's the very one.  I've never seen this series...what's it about?  I had seen Gaunt a few years ago in a small but interesting role at the National in a play called HUMBLE BOY.  I had found and read the play GATES OF GOLD on my last trip to London, because I like Frank McGuinness' writing.  It's a fictionalized version about the relationship of Michael  MacLiammoir and Hilton Edwards who were lovers and founded The Dublin Gate Theatre in Ireland, centering on MacLiammoir's death.  When I saw it was playing, I wanted to see it.  It was playing in a theatre on Whitehall (its original name I can't remember) which has been recently divided into two playing spaces, called The Trafalgar Studios.  Gates of Gold was in the smaller space, so intimate you could count the nose hairs in an actor's nostrils.  Truly, you could literally reach out and touch them.  Lovely play; terrific performance by Gaunt.

The Lovely Wife and I will nestle in for New Year's Eve, like we usually do, and have a stack of movies to watch...AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH; PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST; and THE BLACK DAHLIA.  I know the reviews for BLACK DAHLIA have not been great (including BK's); but a friend of mine wrote it and had been working on the script for seven-eight years, back when David Fincher was still involved.

We've also been catching up on our WGA Award screeners.  We watched LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE last night...very funny!  Also have seen THANK YOU FOR SMOKING and NOTES ON A SCANDAL.

Films I need to see in the next few weeks areTHE QUEEN; HISTORY BOYS (saw the original play); and, most of all, VENUS with Peter O'Toole.

In re: last night's discussions...

As proof that some things simply are not chosen, let me offer this - that viewing Rod Steiger's tail would have turned me straight!

(I saw Roger C. Carmel's tail once.  Still didn't do the trick.)

Remember the Doctor is part human
The Eighth Doctor was part human, because of a blood transfusion during the regeneration process as I recall.  I don't know if the human element would have survived the next regeneration, though, and as that story has not been told...  :-\

GEorge and SWW

Have you seen this...

The Sarah Jane Adventures

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0862620/

http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/

I hadn't heard a peep about it before, but it makes sense.  Sarah Jane was/is a fun character, Slaydon is a good actress, and since the Torchwood spinoff is intended to be more "adult" in content, pairing Sarah Jane with a younger crew (and I'd presume K-9 as well) keeps everything in balance.

...This was the early '70's, before everyone hated mimes....
Hating mimes is far too easy, because everyone knows mimes never answer back.

Good morning dear Esteemed, resolved, rested, and rarin'-to'go BK --

I enjoyed reading about your "retreat to your darkened bedroom" to ruminate and reflect on your year and your life.  I have a similar thing now, but it is in the morning, and I do it daily.  It helps keep me centered, guided, and in a good place mentally and spiritually.

I slept terribly last night, with an annoying "crick" in my neck that just wouldn't relax out.  But hopefully it will be better today.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TOMOVOZ!

In a few hours Bryan and Craig will be watching the extra special fireworks in Bucharest, extra special to celebrate Romania’s entrance into the EU tomorrow.

Unfortunately Bryan’s coat didn’t arrive with him since it was packed inside his new suitcase, along with all his other essentials, camera and his MCAP books.  Using the powers of this site I’m sending him good vibes his luggage arrives, or at the least is located, very, very soon.

Time for me to head to work, to aid and assist those who still have New Years feasting and festing to prepare...

And then, a quiet night at home.

Question for ask Bk Day:  Why do we go to extremes to mourn a life that ended peacefully at the age of 93?  Isn't reaching that age something we should be celebrating?

I've said this over and over again, both here and elsewhere.  Yes, we should be celebrating - 93 is not something to mourn - my goodness, someone lived THAT long, get up and dance a jig in their memory.  If you go on other boards you'll see it happen - someone who's over 90 dies, and these kids who barely even know who they are say "I'm devastated"  "Noooo" all that stuff and I've posted just what you did and they come after you like you were Hitler.  Ridiculous.

I'm reminded of a joke that I think i first heard on "Welcome Back Kotter."

A telegram delivery man rings the bell to deliver his next telegram.

An old woman answers and says "Oh goody! A singing telegram..I've always wanted to get one of these."

The delivery man replies "I'm sorry ma'am but this isn't a singing telegram, it's just a regular telegram."

The woman, obviously disappointed, sighs and says "Couldn't you sing it to me anyway, I'm 91 years old and this may be my last chance to get a singing telegram?"

The delivery man says "No ma'am, it's not the kind of telegram you sing, and I don't sing very well anyway."

The woman pleads and pleads with him "Please, please sing me the telegram.."

The man finally gives in and starts-up, to the tune of "Hooray for Hollywood":

Da-da-de-dum-dum-dum..
Your sister Rose is dead,
The word I heard is that she died in bed,
I wanna tell ya she was really great,
But she was ninety-eight,
Yeah, your sister Rose is dead.

I played a singing telegram deliverer on an episode of Angie - it's at a wedding in Angie's house (one of the Mary's is getting married, but no one has met or seen the groom).  I'm mistaken for the groom, and though I keep trying to let everyone know, no one lets me get in a word.  Then they start playing the wedding march and she comes down the stairs.  I look confused, and then we see each other.  Ultimately I sing the telegram that the groom ain't showing up and has taken a powder.

It was one of the funniest TV shows I've ever done (I have it on Beta somewhere).  I don't know that I was ever funnier on TV.  And the funny thing about it is is that I almost left the reading when I went up for it.  I took a look at the script and aside from the telegram and two lines, there was no dialogue.  I thought "I don't do this anymore" and I called my manager and told her I was leaving.  She convinced me to stay (she'd read it) and said "It's really funny - and you don't have to learn any lines."  I went in, did my thing, got the part, and because of what I did on the show, they seriously contemplated bringing me back - unfortunately, the show went off the air.

It was exhilerating getting the kinds of laughs I did without having to speak one word - all with subtle eye moves and facial expressions.  I must have that transfered to DVD - or maybe they'll put it on DVD - everything else has been.

I promised not to say anything about Torchwood until George got his copy...

I have always liked Sarah Jane. I agree with your assessment on Sarah Jane and she would make an excellent pairing for children.

AMEN!!

He lived a long life and that is what we should be celebrating. It is not like someone who has been murdered in the prime of their life.

I remember Robert Hays being on Starman and at the same time on the local independent station they broadcasted reruns of Angie.
