I feel the need to bake another rum cake.  And possibly a wine cake, too.

Just because.

My little flitter Dr Elmo, I see you're back on screen.  How are you, my darling? (before you disappear again...)...

DR MissKaren, I am coping, trying to maintain a semblance of my sense of humor, and staying busy as I possibly can!

DR Ron Pulliam - Ever see "Steel Magnolias" - the movie version?  Red Velvet Cake makes an appearance in there.

Good grief! There was something in Steel Magnolias that was worthwhile. Who'd have thought?

Good afternoon to the assemblage, the "chosen," the hoi-polloi, the creme de la creme, and the H/Ks here and afar.....

First of all -- yes, really good Red Velvet Cake is very yummy indeed!!  If it is dry, or bland, or flavorless, then you ain't got good R.V.C..

In any case...

Red Velvet Cake is all about the Cream Cheese Frosting.  And the red food coloring.  Basically, it's a chocolate/cocoa layer cake with a lot(!) of red food coloring.  I've seen recipes that call for as much as four(!) bottles of red food coloring.

Some people put nuts in their cream cheese frosting.  Some people put pineapple.  Some people put both.  Others just leave it plain - cream cheese, butter and sugar and vanilla.

And for a final touch, some people even press some cake crumbs into the frosting to give the cake a red dusting... almost looking like red velvet, I guess.

I'm sure there's a line connecting Red Velvet Cake and Tipping the Velvet mentioned on the site a few days ago.  I shall leave the line for others.

Dear Esteemed, written, supped, consulted, and Cupid-like BK --

I am THRILLED that the Brain CDs are going to Pony Express, and will soon be available to be enjoyed and treasured.

I'm a lucky boy, in that my house is being rented for 2 days of shooting for some anti-smoking PSAs tomorrow and Thursday.  So I don't know if I'll have much laptop access.  But I'm here in spirit !!!!

How many Dactylopius Cocus give their lives for a piece of Red Velver Cake I wonder.

You mean Tomovoz's FAVORITE movie?

It's the groom's cake, isnt' it!  The armadillo with gray icing...and when it's cut into it looks like it's bledding?

On top of some spiffing performances by the female cast, there's that absolutely glorious, heartbreaking music score by Georges Delerue.

Well, it looks like some of the shows DR Jose worked on in D.C. this past year have been honored with several Helen Hayes nominations

http://www.playbill.com/news/article/105714.html

Outstanding Supporting Actor, Resident Musical
Andy Brownstein, Assassins, Signature Theatre
Jim Corti, She Loves Me, Arena Stage
Mika Duncan, Assassins, Signature Theatre
J. Fred Shiffman, Cabaret, Arena Stage
J. Fred Shiffman, She Loves Me, Arena Stage

What kind of stupid award committee would nominate Jim Corti (granted a very talented actor who I saw in the national tour of RAGTIME) for SHE LOVES ME; while ignoring the stunningly handsome Sebastian La Cause in the same production?

Ummmm.....possibly because they aren't attracted to La Cause in that way?

After having a mediocre Lean Cuisine for dinner, the Red Velvet Cake looks painfully delish.
