How far ahead do you get the music to prepare, or are you truly sight-reading?

Well.. I received a score last week... And then I went to Atlanta...  And since about six or seven of the songs had been transposed since last week... And there were four new transitions... So, yes, today I was basically sight-reading.

He does seem to be a favorite scapegoat around here!

Well DRJOSE, I suppose somebody has to like it....and you and DR ELMORE are champions who may - MAY - make me change my mind.

I started reading it again last week - but didn't get past the dinosaur walking into the living room.  The flying scenery did it for me the first time....so at least I got a bit further.

Well, remember, there's flying scenery in Sunday in the Park with George too - Where's my tree? - so...

You have to make it to the third act.  There's a lot more strange stuff that happens during the first two acts - stranger than the dinosaurs.  Just keep reading.  Even if it's just a page or two a day.

I agree.  I watched the video production this weekend, not ever having read the play.  The third act brings the whole "device" into focus and was rather moving, I thought.

My guess is even Miss Kitt was impressed.  Meow!  ;D

Well, since I did not have a chance to play while she was in the room today... But soon...  However...

During the Meet and Greet, each of us in the room went around and introduced ourself, our name and role.  When it came time for Mr. Kitt, she simply stood, turned to the room, and bowed.  :)

Exactly.  The third act is the most "human" of the acts - and it's meant to be that way.

DR singdaw - I'm guessing you watched the Jack O'Brien production with Blair Brown as Sabina?

A gentleman who writes a weekly column for the Clarksburg, West Virginia, Exponent-Telegram emailed me a couple of weeks ago.  He wanted to use some of the information I used in my online bio of Miss Allison for a column he was devoting to her.

I said of course.  He is supposed to send me some clippings of the article.  Allison/Mary Jane was born in Charleston, West Virginia, and even though she moved away as an infant back to her mother's hometown of Washington D.C. - West Virginia claims her as their own.

That is way cool! You will let me know when it is out, won't you!!

Another interesting tidbit...

Back in the '50s, Eartha Kitt played Sabina in a production of The Skin of Our Teeth at La Jolla Playhouse.  Her cast included Dennis Hopper, Cloris Leachman, and James Whitmore.

DR edisaurus - and DR Ginny (if you're still looking for hotel rooms) - You may also want to check out the Chelsea Savoy.  A sportswriter friend of mine stays there frequently when he comes up from Charlottesville.  He says the rooms are nice, and if you don't mind not having a window, the interior rooms are a nice bargain.  *And since it's on 23rd, you're just a block or two or three from the most of the major train lines.

Really?  Back in those days, weren't the classics really just the current bestsellers?

Well, I don't believe I was born when you invented the wheel, so I take your word for it.

DR JRand56, a lot of the show was inspired by the Olsen and Johnson HELLZAPOPPIN, and it owes a lot to FINNEGAN'S WAKE, but it cannot be taken - even by 1941 standards of drama - as a well-made play.

Perhaps the best way to approach it is as a Vaudeville history of mankind with a bit of theatre of the absurd and French farce thrown in.  The overall framework is sort of NOISES OFF, Act One is basically a French farce about the Ice Age, Act Two a vaudeville olio on the boardwalk of Atlantic City during Noah's Flood, and Act Three a family tragedy set after any major war, perhaps THE TROJAN WOMEN set in a Ringling Brothers 3-ring attraction.  To me, the brilliance of the play is that, given all the nonsense and comedy, it's both a great tribute to humanity's continual survival and a moving piece about the human condition, from our peccadilloes and crimes - petty and grand - to our dreams and lofty ambitions.

I'm back from ZODIAC; very long, but quite gripping and well-cast.  I liked David Shire's score as well.

Oh gosh my eyes are burning.  I inhaled some smoke (from my oven) and my eyes have been burning all night. I tried visine and it seemed to help at the time. but gosh do they still hurt.

And no i did not burn down the house. I was making a mini-meatloaf recipe (in muffin tins). And i forgot to put a tray under the muffin tin. It did not seem like there was anyway the meat/sauce would spill over. But somehow it did. And there was smoke. :(

DR Jennifer - If you can gently splash some water in your eyes as a sort of eye-wash, that will help.  Also be sure to wash the area around your eyes.

And as for the cause of the smoke, unless the beef you were using was extremely lean, I'm guessing some fat spilled out of the muffin tins.

Great cast photo there, DR JOSE!!

You and DR ELMORE are very persuasive....and in fact a copy of the television production of the show is on its way to me.

I may watch before I read anymore.

I don't remember the book of ALL THE KING'S MEN or the 1949 movie being this boring.....but I could be wrong, and often am.

AND thanks for the CREATURE cd info, MR BK.  I think a link will be fine, if you don't sell it on KRITZERLAND, you don't have to buy address labels and envelopes!  And that won't cut into your royalties.

Did you tell Miss Cindy Williams that she is soon to be released on CD?
