Charles Frank was excellent in THE RIGHT STUFF, for me his only big claim to fame. I've seen him do lots of guest star stuff on TV, but he never had a major star career, and he had the makings for it. Just never happened.

I really love Barbara Stanwyck (less enamored of Gary Cooper).

I supposed the film of hers that I've seen the most and love is SORRY WRONG NUMBER.

DOUBLE INDEMNITY must be included.

But there's another Stanwyck movie that I adore and haven't seen for years - ALL I DESIRE. It's more of a B-picture from the 1950s, but she's just mesmerizing in it. Trapped in this hokey melodrama, and she acts it like it was the grandest screenplay ever written.

Good morning, all! I was having a verybizarre dream concerning my high school best friend and husband of DR Ginny. Richard was walking around tweeting; it seems he needed to see a doctor because he had inhaled a bird, and surgery was a threat ntil the bird died. I am not making any of this up! So I had to take him and Ginny to a hospital. That's all I remember except I believe we may have been at an amusement park. Or a bizarre building.

I have some laundry today and some guidelines on which to continue.

DR edisaurus, they music cues to which you refer may be indeed playoffs, but I suspect a few of them - since you're listening to radio broadcasts - may be scene changes played to denote a change of place or passing of time.

I have never really seen that many Barbara Stanwyck or Gary Cooper movies. Stanwyck of course in Double Indemity and being butch in The Big Valley TV series. As for Mr. Cooper there were maybe movies I believe I saw him in; one was also with Stanwyck Mr. Deeds Goes To Town and High Noon. Other than that I don't think there was anything else.

He was a longtime regular on ALL MY CHILDREN in the 1970s. My mother was addicted to the soap.

why oh why?

The NYSF production I believe kept the book interploted one song from one other show (It worked IMHO) and it was all in the staging and the performances.

Why oh why do they need to do things like that? The book isn't all that bad.

-I mean, it did get cooler again last night, but not cold enough for the radiators to turn on. And, heck, they didn't turn on until about 30 minutes ago, and it was much cooler last night.

The book isn't bad at all! And the music is perfect as it is!

Maybe they think they need Johnny Depp references. Or they have to throw in anti-Bush jokes (there is a time and place, people). Or remove any and all sexist references. Or add the same.

This does not bode well.

Well, there's a reason this is being called Pirates! and not The Pirates of Penzance. It's an adapatation/overhaul of the original G&S piece. There's a more modern feel and sound to it. The plot is the same, but the language of the book/script has been updated/changed in order to fit with the new concept. From what I understand - and from what I heard through the door of the rehearsal studio

- the movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean", was part of the inspiration for this new piece.

I guess you could see it as an extension - a big extension - of how companies would update certain lyrics in G&S shows - in particular "I've Got A Little List" from The Mikado - to incorporate some present-day references.

And, heck, if this production helps to keep Papermill going... More power to 'em!
