I read the On the Lot Board discussions, too.  I guess I was confused about last Thursday's episode.  I thought they had whittled it down to 18, but it was 24.  I saw that post, too, JR, that alleged shenanigans were afoot.  Not having seen tonight's episode yet, I can only say that I think the premise is a worthy one, and several of the 1 minute films I found completely wonderful.  The weird rotating judges (almost a Monty Python reference) and hosts, as well as the missing episode, are kind of weird, though.

I'm curious BK why you would want the show cancelled quickly.  Is it because you object to the contest elements?

The "missing episode" of On the Lot is available on the website.  Go to episodes, then Auditions Round 2, and Outtakes 2 through 4.  It's pretty much all there from what I can tell.

Wow!  That other article in that Starlog magazine looked very eye opening:

Gosh I wonder if I have that issue of STARLOG? I bought STARLOG regularly in the late 70s..but maybe I stopped by 1981. That cover does not look at all familiar.

Good Evening!

Back from Xanadu

Silly, silly, silly, silly, silly and SILLY!

Oh, and CAMP too.

For a child of the 80's, it brought back many wonderful and, in retrospect, embarrassing memories.  I had fun.

And I'll leave it at that until the Critics get to it.

If XANADU had had the wisdom to open off-Broadway, wait to be discovered and then either (a) move, or (b) stay put off-Bway in NYC like Little Shop did but tour to large venues - I suspect it would become a hit.  As is, openiong directly on Bway, I'll fearlessly :) predict as follows:  if Brantley reviews it for the Times, it will be negative and the show will be stuck building word of mouth with the summer tourist crowd; if Isherwood reviews it, I think he will like it a great deal and call it an extended but very enjoyable sketch.

Yeah... And what DR FJL said.

Now I'm just trying to figure out the Perez Hilton tie in with the show.  There's a big "quote" of his outside the theatre: "Do you love it?... Or do you LOVE it?"

Seriously, I was thinking the same thing about how the Times will end up reviewing it.  And since any show opening up in the summer - especially shortly after the Tonys - is already handicapped in a sense - and not for the better - I really am curious to see what kind of audience the show will find.  And vice versa.

MOVIE/MOVIE certainly did have some fun moments, and I liked the conceit of the piece, but making BAXTER'S BEAUTIES OF 1933 in color violated our knowledge that BECKY SHARP was the first three strip Technicolor film, and that was in 1935.

DYNAMITE FISTS was shown in black and white at the movies, but it was obviously filmed in color and simply printed in black and white. Current TV prints of MOVIE/MOVIE have both features in color.

I began my evening watching Claude Berri's charming THE TWO OF US on a new Criterion release. Looks wonderful and was one of those movies where the time just flies by because the two main characters are so precious together. It's over almost before it starts, it seems.

I watched all of the special features on the disc, too, including an interview with Alain Cohen (who played the boy) seeing what he looks like now. New interviews with Berri and also archival footage of him and star Michel Simon talking about the film, too.

Not as feature packed as many Criterion discs, but certainly worthwhile.

I started another ANGEL episode, but I didn't have a chance to finish it. This one involved a ritual Lorne performed to try to resurrect Cordy's memory, only it wiped out the memories of all of the gang instead.

I'll finish it tomorrow.

HOUSE's season finale had some very surprising developments plus an interesting case of a woman with heart problems.

The ending of the show certainly leaves next year's cast list up in the air.

THE SHIELD had another mesmerizing hour as time is running out for Vic to save his job, and Shane's loose cannon ways are getting more and more dangerous for him and others.

There was also a very entertaining series of running gags between Billings and Dutch as they one-upped each other.

Tomorrow I'll have the BOSTON LEGAL season finale to watch, the ANGEL episode to finish, and, of course, another episode of THE CLOSER from the second season set.

I just finished watching THE GREAT WHITE HOPE...it was an interesting movie...I guess it was a good movie, just not a very happy movie.

The lead actress was Jane Alexander..but she seems to be a different Jane Alexander then the Jane Alexander I know of...this one was not British and she had a very overwhelming nose!

Well, no one's going to accuse this person of being an actual writer, are they.  I mean, the fact that sites would allow such things (unless he owns the site) or that the author would allow such ineptitude to be viewed by one and all is what's astonishing.  It's hard to tell WHAT he thinks of anything - he hasn't seen the film, totally misunderstands what I wrote in the booklet in just about every way you can, and then, well, I don't know what.
