air Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, where the no smoking policy is now
enforced with high-pressure water cannons and helicopters loaded with
foam. With us this week are piano man Randy Newman, the California kid Martin Sheen, comedienne Paula Poundstone, and cellist Meta Weiss. Also with us, the Royal Academy of Radio Acting: Tim Russell, Sue Scott, Fred Newman, and Erica Rhodes, The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band with Richard Dworsky, The News From Lake Wobegon, and much more, coming up this week on A Prairie Home Companion.

This will be the fifth consecutive year that Garrison Keillor has
brought the renowned public radio program to Los Angeles. The
performance will be recorded and broadcast to die-hard fans around the
country and the globe on Saturday, June 9th. 89.3 KPCC will broadcast
the event locally at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM on June 9th and 11:00 AM on Sunday, June 10th.
Currently in its 33rd season, A Prairie Home Companion has made
Minnesota's way of life and the fictional small town of Lake Wobegon
part of American popular culture. The show is heard on more than 500
public radio stations nationwide, with a weekly audience that tops 4.3
million listeners. The program can also be heard on XM Radio, the
Armed Forces Network Europe, the Far East Network, and in dozens of
European cities via the Astra satellite network. Garrison Keillor's
signature monologue, The News From Lake Wobegon, is available via
podcast/iTunes.
