Once again, I'm outside the pack. I loved THE OUT OF TOWNERS (original)

I guess I'm part of the pack - although I admit Sandy Dennis is an acquired taste. The original was much better than the 1999 re-do" Steve Martin is no Jack Lemmon.

It's still hard to watch Dennis and not think of "Honey" from Virfgina Woolf

I just find movie comedies today mostly vulgar. Comedy on television is far more sophisticated and entertaining to me. I haven't seen anything at the movies that can compete with the best episodes of THE OFFICE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, 30 ROCK, or OLD CHRISTINE.

I wonder if some of the problem is the medium. Movie goers today want a big-screen roller-coaster ride to justify the expense. Even if Hollywood produced a clever comedy (ala Hepburn/Tracy or Cary Grant/anywoman) many of us would stay home and wait for the DVD. That said, a big screen chase-comedy ala Mad, Mad, etc ot The Great race might still play well.

DR Cillaliz - When you played Potemkin in Celebration, did you just sing all of the character's songs in your own octave, or did they transpose?

Boy, did I need to sleep, I guess.  Didn't arise until ten, and now I must de-groggify, joggify, and try to have a voice, because what's coming out right now is really scary.

I think that is when the term 'Fickle Filipino" was coined.

Didn't Elmore also coin the phrase "Bimbo Barnum" at the same time :D

Well, done with my "rural tasks of the day - planted
2 pots tomatoes
2 pots basil
1 pot mint
1 pot chives

More tomatoes plus peppers yet to go.

The mailman delivered the DVD of Xanadu (on which order Woody queried, WHY?)

After almost a month of beith E&T from my bird-feeding, I loaded uo yesterday - it didn't take long! Visitors inclusde a bunch of Blue Jays and Grackles, a pair of Cardinals. my Red Breasted Woodpecker friend, a Mourning Dove, a tufted titmouse and a white-breasted nutcreeper. Only one squirrel appeared.

A temporary moment of excitement:

After weeks and weeks of drought, we had about 6 minutes of rain.

On the other side of the street.

I hope we had some at home. We've been on a watering ban and can only water on one day from Midnight until 10AM.

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING did incredibly well a few years ago and that was not a big movie at all.  If it's funny, they will come (though I didn't find WEDDING to be that funny myself.)

I was just informed by Amazon that 110 IN THE SHADE is being delayed by a week.  At the same time the Talkin' Broadway E-blast List says that the disk in stores and that they don't understand why Amazon is delaying.  Go figure!

I just got back from lunch and one of my errands at lunch was to purchase Curtains and 110 in the Shade. I have them both in my hot little hands (well I'm typing right now so I'm not actually holding the discs, but you get the picture).

Barnes & Noble is holding a copy of the Curtains CD for me and DH Richard will pick it up on his way to Cincinnati, where he and DS Rob will finish moving Rob out of his room at the University.  I called the Border's that's between my work and home and was told that they'd only received one copy and someone had already been in to pick it up.

This Afternoon is the Grand Opening for The Rehoboth Beach Farmer's Market. I'll pick up Woody at 4:30 and we shall go Famer shopping - with luck I'll find some fresh local Scrapple! (Or some local Amish baked goods!)

On a local note (a sign of the times), there is a health alert not to eat more than one portion/week of fish caught in any Delaware waters (coastal, inland, or fresh) - unless your you're (OZ might be watching) pregnant, or the fish were caught in a few of our local rivers, then the limit is one portion/month!

Woody has yet to master fish cookery.

There was this show at the Alex Theater in Glendale, CA, called Fashion, supposedly about a group of ladies putting on a play, that was absolutly dreadful.  I fell asleep.  Der Brucer fell asleep.  We left at intermission.

And, for some strange reason, they actually put out an Original Cast Album of the thing.

Der B and I passed on getting the album.  We're not total masochists.   :P

If one chooses to purchase said original cast album, one is not a masochist, one is a completist. ::)

Not here. Delaware is still in retro-grade. Possession of a trace amount will land you in the pokey and a flower-pot sized plant can get your house confiscated by the government. White drivers going through black neighborhoods are presumed to be looking for a drug buy!

DR George, I listened to A Doll's Life yesterday.  I must have listened to the LP a lot more than I remember, as I was much more familiar with this score than I would have expected.  If I didn't know better, I would never identify this as the work of the same composer who wrote Snoopy!.  There are many lovely moments of lyricism in this score.

I'd only heard the whole recording once or twice before, but one of the songs must've been on some compilation (or maybe Donald Feltham played it on The Broadway Radio Show), because I practically knew the whole thing.  And I was thinking the same thing about the score.  Snoopy (which I really like) and this were from the same composer?  Good work!
