I enjoyed several entertainments on TV this afternoon.

I began with another revisit with a CLOSER episode, this one about the body parts of the dead porn star found in a dumpster. Good episode.

The Swedish Chef Hat Story

Once upon a time, several years ago, DR Sandra was perusing Ebay when she found a listing for a Swedish Chef Hat. She thought the description hilarious, with things like "Of all the things on Ebay, this certainly is one of them," and other such amusing sayings.

She posted a link to it on this board because she thought it was so funny. The next thing we knew, BK had bought it. He later presented it to her for Christmas when we were in LA.

She decided to take the hat with her whenever she traveled and take a photo of it. Swedish Chef Hat was photographed in Las Vegas, Palm Springs (on the Lucy statue), family reunion in Kansas, and even on The Fifth Floor (a mystical place at the university in the English Building on a floor that doesn't exist).

Not as funny as DR Sandra would have told it, but she was carried out of the house a while ago kicking and screaming (literally) by her brother.

Next, I finished all of the remaining special features on the WINNIE THE POOH DVD. Most of it was strictly for the kindergarten set, but there was a switch to turn on for pop-up trivia during the movie. There were some fun facts in that.

Next came another episode from the ANGEL fourth season set. This one had the new "savior" causing everyone to be happy, concented souls except for Fred who could see the "spirit" was a rotting, diseased entity. Now, Fred has a target on her back with everyone gunning for her to shut her up.

I ended the afternoon watching one of the Basil Rathbone/Sherlock Holmes features that TCM has been playing today - TERROR BY NIGHT. This is one of the briefest of the films but has always been one of my favorites.

The print they were using was in terrible shape. The one in the restored set from MPI was barely rescued in time, but it looks very nice.

I saw that TCM is running some of the later Philo Vance movies later this afternoon. I set the DVR to catch THE DRAGON MURDER CASE which I don't think I've ever seen (Warren William plays Vance).

More gay images-in-films tonight on TCM, and I'm going to watch the first one "live." SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER is the second one, but I have it on DVD.

RE: James Carpinello in Xanadu.

I haven't heard anything yet about re-casting, but it does seem like they are going to try to rotate through the three covers - all of whom are quite different types.  For now.  I think with Andre Ward going in, that would cause the least amount of "shuffling".  However, Peter Samuel is also one of the Sonny covers, and he's normally Tony Roberts' understudy!  *My roommate is friends with the other Sonny cover, Curtis Holbrook.

Speedy recovery vibes to Mr. Carpinello.

Peter Samuel is Tony Roberts understudy!!!  Is he also 85?

You'd rather have it paired with COMPULSION?

How about THE INTERNATIONALE? Or Montaldo's SACCO AND VANZETTI? Or even THE MALE ANIMAL?

Since Barney's been dead over a year, I guess not! Sure looks like him.  BTW, this revival of YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU is getting wonderful reviews.

I've got to track down Kevin Kilner. Last time I saw him was around 1995 when he was acting in the anniversary production of THE GLASS MENAGERIE.  I met him right after he'd gotten back from playing Mitch STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE with Michael Chiklis as Stanley in Columbus, OH. I always thought the director should have reversed the roles.  Either he or his girlfriedn at the time lived a few blocks away from me.  I guess that CLOSER episode has me waxing nostalgic.

Kevin Kilner needs to work a lot more than he does.  I have always enjoyed his acting, as well as his good looks.

For fans of BOSTON LEGAL:

I just read that Julie Bowen, Mark Valley, Rene Auberjonois and Constance Zimmer have all been let go from the show.

John Larouquette joins the firm next season, and Christian CLemmenson, who plays Jerry "Hands" Espinson, has become a series regular instead of a guest star.

I agree!  Every time I've gone, I MUST have their Swedish meatballs! :D

DR MBarnum -

Scandinavia House

has been on my list of things to do in NYC for several years!  Maybe we could go there for Swedish meatballs in a couple of weeks.

Or you could just hit IKEA.

Good Afternoon!

Aaaahh... I do have to say that getting my hair cut - at least down at Chelsea Barber - is one of the most calming and civilized things I don't mind treating myself two every two to three weeks.  -And the hot towel - with menthol - wrapped around my head at the end of the haircut is both relaxing and invigorating.

Julie Bowen was pregnant in real life, and I wonder if she requested a leave of absence to be at home with her child.

Mark Valley was in a pilot for another network that didn't get picked up.

I was most surprised with Rene's ouster. Yes, as a managing partner at the firm, he gave orders, but he didn't have any sexual involvements or court cases, so I suppose the producers thought he was expendible. Candace Bergen could be the head honcho.

Hmm... Scandinavian sounds good.  However...

After reading the following article in today's NY Times Dining & Wine section, I'm wondering if we shouldn't just all put in a couple of bucks and chow down on a whole pig at Momofuku Ssam Bar or Daisy Mae's BBBQ?!?

My goodness, we've had a rain shower (while the sun was shining). Temps dropped again, and it's cool outside.

This is the third day in a row we've had rain of some kind.
