We recorded our score with Van Dyke Parks at Cello Studios. I heard it has been torn down, which makes me sad...  :'(

Trivia Note:  Van Dyke Parks was the boy's school roommate of Chet Allen, who originated the role of Amahl in AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS on NBC, Christmas Eve, 1951.  Chet Allen later committed suicide, which has no connection to Van Dyke Parks.

I did not know that, DR TCB.

If you've seen ONE Christmas opera, you've seen AMAHL.   ;)

HOLLYWOOD DEVELOPMENT

Quote
Huge Hollywood apartment complex approved

The L.A. City Council clears the way for 1,000 rental units in seven buildings to rise on parking lots around the Pantages. It's the largest residential project in the resurgent area.

The $400 million dollar development will also include shops and restaurants at street level.

LA TIMES

Quote
SCRIPTLAND: Producers, Writers Guild begin rancorous talks

Compensation for digital media and residuals for reuse of content are major issues as contract talks begin.
By Jay A. Fernandez, Special to The Times
July 18, 2007

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and the Writers Guild of America West met Monday to start contract negotiations, and reports from inside the AMPTP's Encino conference room are that the melee fell well short of the Battle of Thermopylae….

It's apparent to everyone that this is a critical watershed in the relationship between the union members and management that seems to be on a regular cycle of emerging technology that creates new revenue streams and a subsequent scramble to capitalize on its profitability. In this context, for every Writers Guild member apprehensive about a potential strike, there's another member — with memories (actually, more like nightmares) of the WGA's capitulation on a wimpy residuals formula for video in 1988 still burning high — worried that the Guild's negotiating committee won't push far enough.

Another piece of Christmas trivia, while VDP was at that same school (Princeton Boys School, I think) a group of boys went Christmas caroling. VDP had a beautiful voice and sang solos. They serenaded Albert Einstein on his front porch and he went into the house and brought out his violin and accompained VDP as he sang. Van Dyke refers to this as the highlight of his musical career.

Sorry to hear about Chet, though!

Is that the same The Shadows group that performed with Cliff Richard?
I guess you've found the answer to that.

The UK Shadows were known as The Drifters for a while (had to change that of course). Very early on some of the group were "The Vipers".

In the UK and OZ,The Shadows would I suspect have outsold ANY pop intrumentalist - even Duane Eddy. They had 30 top 50 hits in the UK and their LPs sold well - and still do.

Edisaurus,

You may convey to your masters at TNT that some loyal viwers are getting damn disgusted with the schedule fiddling - last night The 8 PM Closer ran into the 9 Pm Closer which ran into the 10PM Heartland, which ran into the 11 PM Cold Case - this makes taping and viewing these shows ponderous. I was planning on trying out the new TNT offerings, but if this is a sign of things to come, I'll look elsewhere.

AND -the damn pop-ups and overlays are getting bigger, more frequent, more intrusive, and increasingly annoying!

We wrapped the brass a half-hour early, the strings twenty minutes early, and now we're doing a few guitar overdubs and we're done.

Had they taken my advice and used Mr. Geissman, we would not be doing these overdubs.  I'll say no more.

DerBrucer have you considered getting TIVO?  It can't do anything about those large pop-ups, but it might help with your recording concerns.

JRand, maybe it is all about expectations.  After your comment we had lowered ours & then enjoyed the show.  Plus, after the intensity of the previous episode we enjoyed the humor in this one.  Granted the plot wasn’t as strong, but then people often have strange ways of getting attention.  I also think Orson Bean’s character was supposed to be like an olive on ice cream. ;D

Hey, and Kitty was in this episode. :)

What is the best route from Richmond to New York?

Where can I find the most delicous banana pudding in the tri state area?

How do you make mayonaisse?

Who left with whom after that late night party at you know where?

SUPER SPECIAL VIBES TO LITTLE SARAH! [/size]

Will the surgeon be able to remove the tumor once her treatments have been completed?

Unfortunately sugery is not an option... (I don't know why... I assume diue to the locatiom of the tumor. I don't press, I let the parents tell me as much as they can bear and let them stop when they need to )

They have been told chemo and radiation therapy are the only options.

She is being treated at Sloan Kettering and I have been told that her doctor is world reknown for his success with this type of pediatric cancer

So far the news has been positve, but the procedures are still agonizing.. they have had to insert a feeding tube as the radiation will cause her throat to swell and make swallowing difficult
