Back from rehearsal, which was so much fun to watch and about which more later, then a burger at Joe Allen, with Cason, BJ, and Miss Patti, then a walk to The Little Pie Shop where I got a chocolate cream pie to go (a tiny one), and am now home catching up on e-mails, calls, and, most importantly, posts here at haineshisway.com.

MattH - I would say we've agreed on certain films before.

Appreciate all the suggestions.  I've only watched three TV progams in the last ten years, and only four in the last fifteen - the four are, The Larry Sanders Show (excellent), Curb Your Enthusiasm (up through the season with The Producers - I got weary of it that season), Alias (which I really liked the first two seasons of, and then, beginning with season three, sadly watched it go to hell until it limped to its silly conclusion), and The Sopranos, which, even in its worst moments was some of the best TV ever.

At lunch, a good many of us went across the street from the rehearsal hall to a soup place on 54th.  It looked pretty good, but I ate nothing.  I'll go into detail in the notes, but we actually did more than we'd scheduled today - the opening, act one closer, opening of act two, and even an hour's worth of The Brain Tap.

Oh, I keep meaning to mention...

It seems that it is "Season of Savings" time again here in NYC.  This started off a Winter Promotion in order to bring in business during the traditionally slow months of January and February.  However, there seem to be a couple of mini-Seasons throughout the year.  In any case....

If you go to Season Of Savings, you can view the current discounts.  Most of them are for shows, but there a few hotel and restaurants offers too.

*BK, Cason, BJ and company - You may want to print out a couple of the discount vouchers if you're planning on catching some shows while you're in town.  *And remember sometimes you can sometimes get just released house seats the day of.

TOD:

Heroes.  Goofily convoluted.

Eureka.  Less convoluted, still goofy.

Ugly Betty.  Still goofy, still convoluted.

Doctor Who.  Goofy and British.  And sorta convoluted.

Good Eats.  Alton Brown is goofy.  I'm not sure if he's convoluted, Amy might know.

Iron Chef America.  The only reality show worth watching, in my opinion.  (And it also has Alton Brown, being goofy.)

What discount flyers?  Where do you get such things?

Go to the website www.seasonofsavings.com, or if you want a hard-copy, I believe there's an insert in the current issue of Time Out New York.  But think there are also discount flyers available at the Times Square Visitor's Center.  Oh, and the TheatreMania.com ticket kiosk in the Virgin Megastore also has the discount codes.  And there's always broadwaybox.com too.

It's Fine and Dandy by Kay Swift and Paul James.

I remember some intentionally bad magician used to hum it while performing, but it's an old radio number, I believe

Yes! If you look back I immediately said it sounds like a magician's song!

I watched "Prime" yesterday and fell TOTALLY IN LOVE with NYC...again.

You folks living there are SO-O-O LUCKY!  It's amazing how a movie can make a city so large look so appealing.

I love PRIME! My friend Naomi Aborn plays Meryl Streep's younger daughter.

8 hours on the great apartment hunt! We spent a morning organizing, then a stop at 157th and Amsterdam where the realtor was actor Jose Llana of ON THE TOWN, the revival of FLOWER DRUM SONG, and currently wonderful THE PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE; we liked the space but not so much the neighborhood. Then 135th and Riverside, which would be my choice if I had a daughter; the 11 and 5 bus stop right outside the apartment door and both buses run north from Juilliard, so I feel that's a good safety factor after dark.  The City Colelge neighborhood is wonderful as well.  After that Sherman Avenue north of Dyckman, which was glorious space but a long haul to the subway and the neighborhood seemed particularly Latin and Loud. When I left them, they were off to 151st and Broadway.  The Gilfrys are great folk, and I wish them well.  At some point, before he leaves, I'm taing Rodney down to a "Brain" rehearsal. He loves the CD.
