As for siblings... I have three younger brothers: Don, Michael and Jay. We basically came one right after the other. In fact, my brother, Don, was a month premature, so for one month each year, we are the same age - otherwise, we could have had the same birthday. Additionally, each of us were born on a holiday. Jay was born on New Year's. Michael was born on Halloween. Don was born when the first man landed on the moon. And I was born on Women's Liberation Day.

I still have to go to rehearsal tonight. This is for the second (and last) Musical Murder Mystery Dinner of the fall season. The performance is next Saturday. I wouldn't say I have a lot of lines in this one, but I went through two highlighters and the script is only 25 pages long.

I have one sister, Nancy, almost 10 years older. Our mother says she had 2 only children. My sister married and had her children very young, while I was a 30-year-old bride and had Rob when I was almost 35. My mother's grandchildren are 44, 41, and 22. Given those differences, plus some cultural and geographic distances, my sister and I get along surprisingly well.

Speaking of rehearsals, I just got hired (yet again) after some Musical Director flaked and left a troupe in turmoil. This time, it's R&H's Cinderella, and I actually have a little time to prepare (unlike Carousel, where I got the call at 4 for a 7 o'clock curtain--oy). The director has set it in the 50s and wants a jazz trio sound, but he is offering woefully little money for a band (what else is new?). So I'm trying to talk him into letting me do multitrack recordings, with which I'll play live. He's also interpolating the non-Cinderella tunes that were used in the Brandy version. Good thing I like "Sweetest Sounds."

We had a fun rehearsal with no real meltdowns, and we had the full band and they sound great. We were also able to run almost everything from the other day so the people who weren't there, band-wise, had a chance to play through. As always, West End Avenue continues to defy musicians. I've recorded it twice and it's never easy and today was no different, but by the end of it they had it down.

that is sad. i tried extremely hard not to let that happen. after my father passed away i'm not sure it wouldn't have finally come to that, if my sister hadn't passed away 3 months later.

Got back a little while ago from a fabulously entertaining concert of Jeff Blumenkrantz's songs at Birdland. Adinah Alexander (one of the stars of Last Starfighter at NYMF) was glorious, as were Donna Lynne Champlin, Laura Patinkin and Alysha Umphress. Also a cameo by a fine performer named David Perlman. A lovely evening, my first evening out since my horrible gout bout.
