Finally, I finished out the afternoon with SWING TIME MAISIE. TCM has been running the MAISIE movies all afternoon, and this was the one that was on so I just watched about 25 minutes of it.

My Blu-ray of HAIRSPRAY did arrive in today's mail (along with the Blu-ray of LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and the DORIS DAY TODAY special on DVD).

I'll be watching the Turnblads tonight.

I will, of course, be watching Twin Peaks episodes this evening.  I should be through with the series by tomorrow night.

I watched the three featurettes on WITH A SONG IN MY HEART and enjoyed them even with Dr. Drew Casper's participation. Sue me. He makes me laugh with his earnestness. (You're right; Miles Krueger could AT LEAST comb his hair before appearing on camera. He looked as if he had just gotten out of bed.)

Poor Miles! I'm very fond of him, but I can understand the question.

I too enjoyed the TORCHWOOD episode last Saturday, very touching.

Lots of Ianto - Owen friction....and a nice romantic entanglement (almost) for Jack.  Toshiko also had some nice scenes.

I like Ianto very much. I wish he and Jack would get involved. He seems devoted to him.

David (I know everyone calls you Coleslaw and beyond but I call you by your Christian name :-)

The IoniTT USB10 is very easy to set up and use. The thing that I thought would be most daunting was the tone arm and the weight (it comes relatively unassembled). Anthony took care of that and I installed the software. It was all very quick and easy and we were up and running in minutes. I admit part of the learning curve was eased because we have and use Audacity, the software that comes with the turntable so we knew what we were doing. After making a couple of configuration choices (it states what those choices should be in the manual and you have to have your turntable plugged into the USB port before those choices show up as choices) we were able to record and edit and save as waves and mp3s. One of the songs we recorded was a 45 (the turntable only records in 33 1/3 and 45 rpm, if you have 78 rpm records, you record them on 45 and then use Audacity to change the speed) of a record by Linda Lee. Our dear Tom in Australia may know the song. It's called You Treat Me Like a Boy. It was in Anthony's collection. It's a cute comedy song from the 60s. I don't have the record here in front of me to give the label and composer, etc.

If we lived closer we could come over and help you set it up (no, TCB, that's not a euphemism) just like we did with Alfred.

DR Danise,

I went back and read more about that Bravia you linked us to. This is a new style of Sony rear projection. It's not the LCoS style that I was familair with, so it does use a bulb like some other rear projection sets (my Samsung is a rear projection WITHOUT a bulb. It uses LEDs instead to furnish the light).

The pictures on rear projections can be every bit as outstanding as on plasmas and LCD flat panels and they're better with black levels and feature no motion blur that the flat panel sets sometimes deal with. But you DO have to replace the bulb, and that's a $200 bulb. It's not the kind of TV you want to leave on for hours at a  time just for background noise.

Every HDTV has drawbacks of one kind or another. None are perfect. But you definitely need advice before you buy and need to consider the questions I asked earlier before you make any decisions.

Hi DearReaderLaura! I had a great Thanksgiving, how was yours? We actually were in The Netherlands for the whole week, so our families had to do without us for the holiday. We had a lovely dinner of salmon and steak at a tiny French restaurant. It was great :)

My copy of The Ridiculously Expensive Mad arrived today and it is indeed in near fine condition--in fact, I'd have graded it near mint.  The only flaws I can see are some very minor chipping to the bottom of the back side of the dustcover (which is enclosed in one of those protective mylar things, so there shouldn't be any more of that), and some very minor toning to the front endpaper.  Other than that, it looks great, with all inserts intact.  What a trip down memory lane.  I still remember my birthday that year--my Mom picked me up from school and gave it to me to look at in the car on the way to the orthodontist.  Memories, pressed between the braces of my mind.

Book gradings are oddly phrased but very specific.  Mint is not a book term.  So, near fine would describe what you're talking about, although it sounds closer to fine - then there is very fine (which can still have minor wear) and then there is As New, which is without any wear or faults.

Went to Gelson's - none of their hot items or deli stuff looked appealing, so I decided to broil a nice steak, which I haven't done in ages.  It's broiling as I type.

Thank you, DR Matt for the info.

I somehow doubt I need that big of a set in my small house.  I did some more looking and I am really looking at this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8473653&productCategoryId=abcat0101001&type=product&id=1186005983963

It's on sale for $799.00.  I think it would do everything I need it to do except fit in my current TV stand.  I would just have to buy another one.

Good Evening!

I got my e-mails sent, my faxes faxed, and my phone calls made and/or returned.  I also took care of a trip to the bank, and then finally got a real meal at the fish place next to my bank branch. YUM!
