DR Jane, I'm happy the task is over. I have to go up and down stairs with plastic bins to accomplish it .. so I'm happy I am finished. On with the 'other' traditional stuff.

I could be wrong about this, but I think THE CLOSER airs from 8-10, so it shouldn't conflict with LIFE. I'll be watching it and recording CHUCK and HEROES. Then I'll watch LIFE "live" at 10. (I'll probably record THE CLOSER as I watch it so I can see it again later in the week. I rewatched all of Season 3 shows that way because they're just too good to only watch once. I watched two episodes of the old 1961 tv series THE INVESTIGATORS. I cannot figure out why this show failed, and so quickly (only 13 episodes).

The cast of regulars are quite good...James Franciscus, Mary Murphy, James Philbrook, Al Austin, and of course cute as a button June Kenney.

The guest stars were good...Rhonda Fleming in the first episode...Lee Marvin in the second episode....

And the plots were quite interesting.

Of course the show is a rip-off of all the Warner Bros shows on at that time like Surfside 6, 77 Sunset Strip, and Hawaiian Eye, and actually, I think, maybe even better then some of them.

Perhaps if they had givin June Kenney more to do then just answer the telephone at her desk in the detective's office then the show would have been a hit! Just maybe.

I spent a good deal of time this afternoon with MURDER SHE WROTE. Sadly Jessica Fletcher wasn't around a lot.

The first one I watched was a Jessica-less story with Keith Michell once again playing Dennis Stanton, the insurance investigator. Ricardo Montalban and Patricia Neal were the primary guest stars, but poor Patricia was attempting a German accent that seemed beyond her ability at this stage of her career.

The problem with the Dennis Stanton stories is that if they're crime dramas rather than mysteries, they're dull, and if they're mysteries, the perpetrator is just so obvious (as it was in this story).

Next, we did have a real Jessica murder mystery, and it was one of the better episodes in terms of suspense from this season, too. Jessica and Seth (William Windom) get mixed up with a Mafioso and his family in Boston with both their lives literally on the line. Monte Markham was the primary guest star.

And then the third MURDER SHE WROTE of the afternoon brought back Dennis Stanton again (ugh) for another pale murder mystery. Susan Blakeley, Dennis Cole, and Ken Swofford were the primary guest stars, and once again, the real murderer was SO easy to guess.

I am hoping that there is only one more of these Jessica-less episodes left in the set. They really cannot compare with the stories featuring Jessica though Keith Michell is certainly urbane and charming as Dennis.

They spun Jerry Orbach off into a Harry McGraw spin-off. I'm surprised they didn't try one with Keith Michell, too.

Next, I finished THE WIZARD OF OZ which I had begun yesterday. Always love it, and due to the added resolution of this Ultra-Resolution transfer, I noticed the Lion and the Tin Man's tears at the end when Dorothy is about to leave, and that made me burst into tears. Hadn't reacted to OZ like that in awhile.

I also watched the featurette on the new transfer for OZ in this set.

THIS is the featurette that shows what the Technicolor would look like (searingly hot) if the timer didn't adjust it for home video. Too bad some of these colorists get carried away and dial it down too much. I think they got it right with OZ but certainly they go too far with other Technicolor gems.

Instead of THE LODGER, I put in MURDER ON THE BLACKBOARD, a Hildegard Withers mystery to watch. However, I may instead go Blu-ray and watch BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA on Blu-ray tonight before DEPSERATE HOUSEWIVES comes on.
