I did read that LIFE's ratings were up 22 % from last week's episode. Part of that might have been that CSI: NY was airing a rerun, but for the first time, LIFE had a larger audience than DIRTY SEXY MONEY on ABC! Looks like more people are discovering it.

 :D :D :D

We were watching TIN MAN ??? ;D this week & haven't watched the LIFE episodes yet.

Yes, I checked out the film clip - apparently this wine company commissions a famous film person every year to do a commercial for them.  This one is directed by Scorsese and is hilarious, especially his performance.  I'd love to know what the budget was for these nine minutes of film.  My guess is at least a million bucks, maybe closer to five.

DR Miss Karen - Do you need THE ENABLER to drop off some Levain Cookies and Amy's Bread Monkey Cake to the New York landlord?  -Well, I mean, I could just say they were from Levain and Amy's Bread... ;)

Sure!   ...as long as you doctor them up with some chayanne pepper  ;)

They sound wonderful.  I don't suppose you'd want to send a bunch to Phoenix; would you?

Sure ... let's see I'm sending 'snow' to Florida and 'cookies' to Phoenix. What's next? 'Tis the season.

I was just flipping channels and caught enough of a documentary "The Jaundiced Eye" that got my sense of outrage in high gear.

It was one of the strangest audience experiences I was ever in, and I wasn't much of a fan of the material either.

I'm not famliar with CA auto laws (I'm sure I will become familiar with them though during all this) but it's my understanding CA has a law to prevent the cops from being called to all these bogus non-accidents --

I don't know about the current laws.  I remember 29 years ago Keith tapped the car in front of us & the driver of the other car insisted on calling the police in spite of minimal damage (we even offered cash). We tried to explain to the driver there was no reason to call for a report, that our info was enough, yet he insisted.  After almost an hour a policeman arrived and boy was he angry at the other driver for wasting his time.

Help!
I need you techie photo finder HHWers to help me once again. I keep thinking it was JRand or der Brucer (?) who found it last time. (I know it's in the archives, but I can't even remember which month and I don't have time to go through a zillion posts -- I'm not even caught up from all my E and T behavior).

I need a photo of a life raft, not life boat, from circa 1912-1914. In that post from early last year (or was it the spring?), it was a picture of some sailors posing on the deck of the ship and you could see the life rafts hanging on the wall behind them. If someone finds it again, please PM for my home email, I'll send it, and then if you would forward me the photo, I'd be ever so appreciative.
Thanks!

Nice to see Jason

Miss Karen-GOOD VIBES!

DaNiece, thank you for the recipe, we do enjoy sharing on this site.  The apricots and butterscotch sounds very intriguing.

Ok here's my new recipe I made today. It was quite tasty

Leek and Potato Soup

Serves 4

Ingredients
2 ounces (1/4 cup) butter
2 leeks, washed thoroughly and chopped
1 small onion, peeled and finely chopped (I used a Vidalia (sp?) they’re sweeter)
12 ounces of potatoes, peeled and chopped.
3 ¼ cup chicken or vegetable stock
Salt and ground pepper

1.   Heat 1 ounce (2 TBSP) of the butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add the leeks and onion and cook gently for about 7 minutes, until they are softened
2.   Add the potatoes to the pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes, then add the stock and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 30-35 minutes until the potatoes are tender
3.   Season to taste and remove the pan from the heat.  Chop up the remaining butter and stir into the soup. Serve hot, with fresh crusty bread.

It's from The Ultimate Soup Bible.

I think it only has 179 calories per serving.

Yep! Goldoni's SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS!

Oh God!  Sorry.  One of my worst theatrical experiences (although no fault of Goldoni).

OY!

I just talked to my parents.  They're coming up tomorrow from Atlantic City for the day for some sight-seeing and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.  Since, I'm working tomorrow, and since I have their tickets - RCMH doesn't allow(?) house seats to be held at the box office ??? - I was calling them to arrange for a hand-off of the tickets.  Well...

Their current plan is get on the early(!) bus from Atlantic City since they want to stand outside the "Good Morning, America" window and/or "The Today Show" window.  So, there's a chance they could be getting here as early as 7:30.  And, of course, they'd like for me to meet them down at Port Authority when they get in and walk them over to ABC and/or NBC.  Well... At least I was already planning on heading in a bit early (again) just to get some playing and practicing in before the auditions start.

Well, I wouldn't mind Cheyenne's pepper.  ;)  However, I do have my own supply of cayenne pepper.  And, actually, I have a jar of ground hot chili powder... which could look like cinnamon.  Although, I guess I could just make up a batch of Ex-Lax Chunk Walnut Cookies.
