Hi, DR Miss Karen - thanks for asking!  I feel like I'm in paradise...

I can see why our southern California denizens like it so much.  :)

I am home from work today on sick leave, rather leave without pay.  I had a very strange experience yesterday.  I went over to my boss's office (about 30 feet away from my cubicle), he wasn't there, so I headed back to my cubicle.  I was about half way back when suddenly my whole body felt as if I was swimming in quicksand.  My limbs got very very heavy.  I could barely move.  I sat myself down on the desk where we sort our mail, and stayed there for about 30 seconds.  By then, all the symptoms were gone.

I got back to my desk and told my sister, who kept an eye on me for the rest of the day.  I felt fine, but tired.  When I got home from work, I tried to get thru yesterday's post, but only got to about, Page Four.  I did some things around the house, and then was in bed by 6:45.

When I got up at 4:00 this morning, I was so shakey that I could harly drink a glass of water or dial the phone.  Since I normally suffer from hand tremors, that isn't terribly unusual.  I finally got the phone dialed and told work I wouldn't be in, took my morning pills, and went back to bed.  I didn't get up again till 10:30.  I feel okay now, but the whole experience was weird.

Would love to stay and chat, but I have a lot of work to do, so I came back to the office tonight...and since the Temptations are performing at the Orpheum next door tonight, I just happened to stop at the box office and learned that 3rd row center had just been released.   Hello, how do you say no to 3rd row center.   So, I have until 8:00 to get some work done...then off to see the Temptations.   Cool beans.

Glad it's an aisle seat...I'm wearing my work boots and they take up a lot of room.

Enjoy your night with the Temptations!

My love/hate relationship with the Internet continues unabated.  There are aspects of the Internet that I loathe will all of my heart - it's very much the center of my short story Your Worst Nightmare.  You suddenly find yourself having conversations and arguments with trolls and idiots you would never even say hello to were it not for them being anonymous on some chat board or group.  Being anonymous suddenly give people all sorts of courage they would never have and gives them the ability to put specious untruths out in the world with no one being able to fight back.  You can basically say anything about anyone and there's nothing to be done about it.  That's the lowest part of the Internet and it's shameful that such things can occur in this day and age.

The good, of course, is the ability to find information quickly, although the flip side of that is that there is so much incorrect information on the Internet that now passes for fact, that it's nauseating.  All one need do is look at the imdb, which is riddled with that sort of factual error.  Still, it's nice to be able to look up something and get the hopefully correct answer quickly.  As to purchasing on the Internet - that's a love/hate thing, too, because that's what's basically killed mom and pop bookstores and CD stores, and the world needs those.

I have no problem with computers.  I love Word, and it's made writing these books so effortless - the ability to cut and paste and fix without having to completely retype everything is the single greatest thing that a computer has done for authors.

So the head of the department I'm working for at TLC just came in and asked if I would like to be a "preditor". I didn't like the sound of that!

She explained that it's a producer/editor/writer---and you make mo' money. I'll have to check out their programming and then maybe I'll give iy a try. She said I could work wherever I want, even at home. Since I don't care for the place I'm working today (it's near my house but a cheap system to work on) that sounds pretty good, and I would still be freelancing and could jump to the CLOSER when it's time.

Edi, that sounds great! :D Congrats!

The thing I dislike about the Internet is that it has changed people's expectations for response time.  Often I'll get an email at work from an anxious customer.  It may take research, but if I haven't responded within 20 minute, they're often then calling me to find out why I haven't answered yet.

DR George - did you finally get to see Whistle Down the Wind and if so, what did you think?

I did see it!  HOWEVER, I got there 10 minutes late! :'( But, since my seat was on the outside right aisle (third row from the front!), I was able to be seated as soon as I got there, and I didn't have to wait until an "appropriate break."  That was nice.

Anyway Matthew, back on November 5th, you wrote:
Quote
Last night, the DP and I traveled to Sacramento and saw the National Tour of Whistle Down the Wind.  An ALW show that I've never seen and one Cast Recording that I was never too excited about.  The show was really good.  However, the direction was lacking.  It was rather slow.  The cast was great and the kids were fantastic.  I didn't have high expectations going in to the show and I didn't tell the DP the plot for fear he may not be interested.  In the end, I was quite surprised about what a cute little show this actually is and it even has a message.  The DP found the conductor distracting as he has bopping around like a metronome, actually, he was the metronome as he was playing while conducting.  I had seen this guy conduct before, I believe it was the National Tour of Hairspray and he is quite animated.  The band was great, however.  I think I'd want to see the show again, and I hope it becomes available to do someday as it definitely has possibilities and charm.

and then after I saw the show on November 17th, I wrote this:
Quote
I agree with most of what he said (especially about the conductor and the direction), except that overall, I don't think I liked the show as much as Matthew. :-\ And I'm sure that it didn't help that I got there 10 minutes after it started...dammit. :P My bad.  Anyway, I enjoyed being there and watching it (and most of the men were certainly nice to look at up close...me, being in the third row! ;)), but overall, it just didn't do anything for me.  I liked the "Songs from Whistle Down the Wind" CD more than the original London cast, which they were selling in the lobby.  This new version also seems to have a lot more spoken dialogue than the CD.  The set was great and the singers were very good, but there just seemed (to me) to be too many "internal monologues" where people just stood there and sang...and just stood there.  I think that if they release a new recording of this version, I'll enjoy that more.  Just my 2¢.

My first thought was how much will the artist get for that...

... and then who gets to pay for it?

$2.5 million and the taxpayers of Phoenix.

DR TCB.....I think you should consult a physician.  Health is precious, something caused the symptoms - they may be gone, but the cause is still there.

Nip it in the bud.

DR TOMovOZ - thanks for the lovely annual package that arrived yesterday.  It will come in mighty handy!

I enjoyed Mr Owen in CROUPIER.....I like most of his movies....but I think CLOSER is very close to being my favorite.

Speaking of JOURNEYMAN - whatever happened to that FOX series about the policeman who was 400 years old.....I kept seeing the promos during the summer....did I miss it?  Is that JOURNEYMAN?  I am very confused.  Is the other show already canceled?

Some TV GUIDE guy put MAD MEN in his top ten of the year.  I wonder if MR BK saw an episode of it yet?

Thanks for the birthday wishes, DRs Jane, George, and Cillaliz.  Jane, thank you, too, for the emails.

DR Elmore sent a wonderful eCard, complete with marching band and fireworks.

We had a delightful visit to The Grand Finale.  For dinner I had the Herbed Filet Mignon Brochette and for dessert about the top 1/3 of a slice of Chocolate Cordial Pie.  The rest is in the refrigerator for tomorrow (and probably the next day).
